OK, so Gen 4 introduced the GTS, WIFI trades and so on. Now for me the GTS was a blessin. I dont have the ability to trade in person, so the GTS made gettin pokemon i needed for my dex easier, EXPECIALLY given the fact I am unable to keep my router set to WEP ( I have a DS lite). Of course the GTS has its shortfalls, the big one- if you havent "seen" it you cant get it. Now when i tried trading with someone for one of pokemon that I didnt "see" (curse you battle frontier) it didnt work, EVEN THOUGH I could trade with the GTS....

On the Gen V:

Acording to the latest update on psypokes main site, WIFI and connectivity are really being pushed for this Gen, which I dont have a trouble with, except the fact that I own a DS Lite and cant keep , my router on WEP settings. Know I what your thinking " Why dont you just change your settings and use WIFI?". The answer to that is I do, but it seems that I am limited by my router/ wireless ( I think).

Im not slamming the game based on WIFI, Im just sayin that me and a load of other people who have a DS/DS lite, may have problems with WIFI, cause some my have limited WIFI or none at all. And buyin a DSi or DSi XL just doesnt seem logical, just for wireless acses, when our current system works juts fine.

I know what im sayin may seem.....unreasonable or somethin to that, but it just annoys me that when I get a Gen V game, I may not be able ot fully experiance what this game has tpo bring.

To an extent, I do agree with you. Not all "progress" is beneficial for everyone involved. But to be honest, I am at least thankful, or hopeful anyway, that Nintendo didn't make the Black/White versions so they wouldn't play on older systems. HG/SS forced me to upgrade to the DS Lite (I liked the pocket size of it and the fact that it will take my old GBA cartridges). I do have to say that, although I didn't really appreciate having to spend the money, I am glad I upgraded. I am starting to use the WiFi now and have changed the settings on my home router - though I'll have to change them back to use my laptop. It does sound like there will be a lot more to be gotten from WiFi and linking on B/W . . . hopefully it won't be to the point that you can't complete the game without linking (which would annoy the heck outta me).

Durned new-fangled thangs . . .

I think there is a great deal more reliance on the Internet, and not all of it is really progress for the series. On one hand, they simplified the actions required to obtain "phantom" legendaries like Mew, by replacing distant conventions or long lines at Toys 'R' Us with a simple online connection at home. On the other hand, they are leaving people unable to connect behind. Even though they are adding features, they are not usable by all of Nintendo's customers. I believe that if there is not significant improvement that does not require Wi-Fi, there really is too much of it.

Changing the router settings from WPA2 to WEP is a very simple process, it only takes a few minutes to change the settings and set all of the computers in the house to connect to it. Is it less secure? Definitely. I live in a neighborhood with old people and retards (literally) and I highly doubt anyone who lives around here has 1337 h4xx0r skills to figure out our router's super simple WEP code. I've had usable WiFi since DP first came out and I'd definitely be less interested in the game if I didn't have it. I feel bad for those people who, like me a few years ago, live in a rural area that has limited broadband access and the ISPs that ARE around just charge too much. Saying "I don't like how Gamefreak is including so many features for WiFi users" doesn't really make much sense to me since we live in the year 2010, when the internet is a HUGE thing and pretty much everyone uses it nowadays.

If you have broadband and a wireless router though, I don't see the problem. Like I said above it doesn't take much time to switch over to WEP and it's really simple. I don't know what the hell Nintendo was thinking when they decided their DS line was going to be "WEP only" though and I really agree that other security settings should have been included.

If all else fails though, stealing the neighbor's WiFi like I did back in 2005-2006 to play Animal Crossing Wild World online is an option too. :)

1.) CALL TECH SUPPORT!
If you can't figure out how to change your router's settings, call the company that made it and ask.
Really. It's that simple. That's their customer service department's job, remember?

2.) I absolutely don't think More Wi-Fi is bad.
I remember being pissed in Gen I when I couldn't get Alakazam OR Gengar, my two favorites, because I wasn't able to trade with anyone.
Then, come Gen IV, I could go to McDonald's, use their free internet, and trade/battle to my heart's content with whomever I wanted.
Now, I have a wireless router which I configured to be WEP instead of WPA (which I figured out how to do by calling tech support, see above), and it's glorious.
I can't wait to have cooler stuff that's basically free.

First- I do know how to change my router settings. The problem is i cant keep WEP beacuse we need the router too stay WPA. This is the problem with me and a few other people.... We know how to do it, we juts cant keep it there/ do it..

Second- Im not sayin More WIFI is bad, im just sayin that if there's too much of it, me and the rest of the people who are unable to keep WEP settings may not be able to enjoy Gen v to its fullest.
