Well it's supposedly set on islands far, far away from previous regions visited.
Are there any in Japan?
Like, I know the whole thing's a group of islands, but I'm not too familiar with its overall layout.

Would there be any sets of islands "far away" from the previously used regions (that essentially span the country)?

well, there's okinawa, which is a tropical island to the south. there's probably a few around there (and it has cities). and if so, then that kinda rules out new york, as manhattan island/long island is only one island, and may as well be attached to the continent (did that make sense?). hawaii would work, except oh, wait, it's not part of japan and has no really big cities like we've seen so far. guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Island group thing... when/where was this mentioned? Was it in one of the Japanese commercials for it or something? I just all of a sudden see someone mention that it is going to be on an island group, but no one ever mentioned a source that this came from.

Gahhhhh, I don't remember guys!
Sorry, I'm not usually one to spew info without giving a source.
I read it in a forum somewhere. Can't remember if it was here, or maybe on a Pokemon website?
Gah, wish I remembered.
But I KNOW I read it somewhere; I didn't make it up.

Yeah, after I posted that I went on a mad google-search to try to find the source.. thinking that I missed something. The odd thing is, despite there being a HUGE amount of fan-art dedicated to what Gen V will look like.. none of them I saw was a compilation of islands, even though the orange islands popped up a few times in my search.

If this was legit news, it would be plastered all over just about every pokemon fan-site by now. I simply think that at this time, there is no real data concerning the region as a whole, except that it is a "far away place" and farther apart from any other region.

This of course has concluded a LOT of people to assume that the region is based off the US. Hard to tell.. we'll have to wait and see.

well, for sure the far-away part is correct, at least. while islands could be interesting, it would also either call for a between-islands ship accessible early on, or surf to be available early. bridges i'll deny as while there are bridges for sure, they couldn't all be connected by bridges.
as far as the assumption that it's in america, i rather doubt it. the characters still look decidedly japanese, if you ask me. though, it could lead to a new set of pokemon that are more original... no, wait, the ones so far still don't look that different. nvm. i'm still betting on it being okinawa. or somewhere around there.

Uh, if anything that has already been covered by Johto, unless you are talking about it being just west of Johto, in which case it kinda doesn't fit along with the already known "Far away land" that has already been described about Isshu.

Since this Isshu region is going to be far from known areas...it may NOT be based on Japan but maybe some other surrounding nations! But I just can't think of a good island nation around Japan...Korea? No...unlikely......A large & industrious island near Japan? That's still Japan......

uh, korea's a peninsula. and i don't think they would do it there, simply due to bad press possibilities with north korea (let's please not start a discussion about that). i'm still banking on okinawa if it's an island. but that could just be me. it's way south of everything else, and it's an island.

Well, why not.

I'm gonna go ahead and put my money on Shanghai and the surrounding area of middle eastern China.
Shanghai Wiki page

Also, it has the Nanpu Bridge ... just sayin.
Here's a picture

I'm betting on the chain of islands to the south, along with Taiwan.

There's always the chance that Isshu might just be a combination of all of the above...AKA, Shanghai, San Francisco, New York, etc. transplanted onto an island chain.

Look at Isshu.
Look at Shanghai.
Now look at Isshu again.
And compare once more to Shanghai.

Dude, I so called that one.

Ha, very funny. HELL instead of s e r e b i i
No really, that's hilarious.

However, I couldn't find the region Bublapedia used and I'm now super-curious.
Cuz I'm dead-set on my "rotate Shanghai 90 degrees" idea, and want to see a better one!

lol that happened to me on a different thread.... i thought one of the mods was playing a joke, until lawence codye told me that it's censored here.
just google isshu region maps, and look at the urls until you see one in the.... forums of the afore-mentioned site.

Are bulbapedia and serebii both actually censored? What awesomeness.

Well, you could also make the argument that Isshu is similar to NYC as well as Shanghai, where the Hiun City peninsula = manhattan, the eastern area is Long Island, and the western area is New Jersey. The little bit of the north is the Bronx.

Even the bridges and tunnels are similar~

The middle part connects to the west via the "holland tunnel", the "lincoln tunnel", and the "george washington bridge"; and to the east in the south (the BMW bridges) and the north (the triborough).
now if only there were a train system, then the parallel would be complete. >:)

i think you meant s e r e b i i?? lolz may wanna double-check ur post, LightShayde.....
anyways....
there's a lot of peninsulas that i'm sure that map is similar to. but i just thought of something: WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT WHERE IT IS!?!?!? lol i mean, it's cool to make parallels between our hobbies and the real world, but it's not incredibly important, imo. *awaitsharshcriticism*

I won't criticize you for this, cuz honestly I bet only 5% or less of players get giddy when drawing these kinds of parallels.

But I, for one, nearly shat myself in Gen III when I discovered Pokemon regions were actually modeled after real world Japanese areas.
Really, I had that map of Japan with the Pokemon routes as my wallpaper for like two months.

Also I couldn't find any Bulbapedia anything about Isshu and NYC, but I did stumble upon a map of Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto 4...

Dude, you so did. And it fits with being farther away from the other reions, and it looks the same if you look at it with your head tilted.

Thank you nomnom52. (Brilliant name.)

Also, just to prove my point, here's an extra large photo of Shanghai...

not NYC. it was something else.... somewhere in japan. which would fit more. and did you say turn shanghai 90 degrees?? cuz that's the only way it would be close (remarkably, actually). however, previous regions are properly facing north, (sinnoh for instance, corresponds in the direction; i only use that one because it's the easiest to find on a map) so i doubt it's shanghai (but if you ignore that rule, then i would agree with you).
