Well I'm sure that other people have noticed this happenning as well as myself. Whilst scanning the GTS I stumbled across a few pokemon on offer under other pokemon ID, for example a diglett named charizard appeared when searching for charizards. My question if it is viable to nickname a pokemon the name of another pokemon and the GTS to trade for that pokemon instead? Also are these pokemon hacked or just nicknamed?

I believe this occurs when the pokemon in question has been traded (i.e. a Diglett for a Charizard) and the original owner has not claimed the pokemon yet.


The nickname does not determine the species of the pokemon. Hacking might work, however, the GTS generally has checks against trading hacked pokemon (try to trade a hacked pokemon).

Ah! thanks for that, that theory makes entirely pefect sense. I was just wearing of some A hole trading away my Pokes for a Bidoof named Mew, example. Thanks for clearing that all up for me.
