Apparently, you can have ANY of the 493 pokemon following you about wherever you go including pokemon you wouldn't normally expect such as Gyarados and Kyogre.
So which pokemon do you think you will have following you about? That is once you have unlocked the Nationaldex.
I think i will probably have either Swampert (because it is one of my favourite pokemon) or Salamence (because it would look awesome)

I'm thinking something badass, like a Nidoking or Feralagator. Having a Gyarados would be cool, wonder if the Red Gyarados' sprite would be red as well or the same as seen in the lake?

I change my active Pokemon depending on my current location, which affects the types of Pokemon I'll be facing. I've done that ever since I first checked out the walkthroughs on this site, which enable me to enter any area fully prepared for whatever I'm likely to come across.
I'll load up my team with Pokemon that look good in the Overworld, so whichever Pokemon is walking along with me, it'll look great.
