That chain could have broken for a number of reasons.
1. There is always a chance that your chain will break no matter how closely you follow the rules. That's just the risk you run by chaining.
2. The corner patch could have been on the edge of the grass, cutting the number of available grass patches on the next link by a considerable amount. The more grass you are surrounded by, the greater the chance is that your chain will continue.
3. The corner patch could have been next to another shaking patch.
...and some more that I have probably forgotten due to the fact that I don't really have much time to chain anymore. I am a bit out of practice.

All i'd like to know is has this happened to anyone else- I chained phanphy til 40 and kept resetting but the abnormal thing is that i used 300 super repels without 1 single shiny patch. now the chances are 1/50 for a shiny to appear so you get 4 charges per super repel that means i reset 1,200 times when i only needed 50. This is the first time it has happened to me and it's not just because i used platinum because i've succesfuly chained other pokemon before on this cartrage. stupid thins is i had 100 more repels and i stepped behind me in my frustration...

Yes sir, i've never waste repels on broken chains.
Edit- I've just tried my hand at chaining in the snow storm, some how I made it all the way to 32 and then failed...

I have commenced chaining in Platinum, with Bronzor being my first target. Bronzor may have either Levitate or Heatproof. I noticed that when I started with a Heatproof Bronzor, the next few tend to have Heatproof, but once I get Levitate, the ones following it were more likely to have Levitate. Has anyone else noticed this pattern with other Pokemon that can have multiple abilities?
I officially hate Meditite. All of my Bronzor chains have been broken by them, with 23 being my highest at the moment. I wish my Weavile had room for Swords Dance, so I can maximise the strength of Aerial Ace on the Meditite.
Edit:
I now have 11 shiny Bronzor!

This is not chaining, but I ran into a shiny GIBLE in Wayward cave. Being absolutely alarmed, I took out my high-levelled Gallade and used False Swipe, thinking nothing could go wrong... then the Gible used TAKE DOWN and it killed itself by recoil. Now I'll never run into a shiny Gible ever again.

Ouch. That's pretty unfortunate, Wai D:
At least Gible isn't the flashiest shiny out there, right?

True... most people wouldn't be able to tell a shiny Garchomp apart from ordinary ones, but still, missing out on a pre-uber Pokemon is quite devastating...

It must have been, I'm sure. Maybe you'll run into something better or just as good down the road, yeah?

Caught six shiny shinxes, three drowzees, and two cacturnes recently. The new grass patch sprites make chaining in the desert quite a bit easier.

Makes it quite a bit easier in any of the harsh environments which is a good thing makes chaining all those hard to get shinies easier

Not really, no. For some reason, it looks a little different, but it's probably just a minor cosmetic change.
Caught a shiny smeargle. The chain is still going.

Is there a significant difference between the flashing grass and shiny grass? Sometimes I break my chain because I think that some flashing grass is shiny grass, and I don't want to end up thinking that shiny grass is flashing grass if (or when) I ever see it.

Yeah 4 sparkles flash twice on the grass a little slower than the flashing grass is it isn't hard to tell the difference
