I believe that Donphan is catchable in the Safari Zone as well, somewhere. Obviously, evolving also works if you want to do it that way. But I think you could have looked it up in the Psydex. It's a really good resource that you can nail down the numbers correctly right away.

No, you can't find Donphan in the Safari Zone

Depends on the game. I think you always get a Trainer Star for the Trainer Card (I know this on Diamond because I actually finished the National Dex with no hacks), and sometimes you get a diploma.

Additionally, on emerald, you get rung up by Prof Birch, and when you go to his lab upon finishing the Hoenn Pokedex (excluding Jirachi and Deoxys), he gives you a choice of Cyndaquil, Chikorita or Totodile that you can take.

I was under the impressoin you only had to have a certain number of pokemon in your pokedex, not the entire Honneh Pokedex. Am I incorrect?

Once you've completed the Hoenn Pokedex, then the starters become available from Prof. Birch. Unfortunately, trying to get them all is tedious, because you have to finish 3 separate games...

Well, you could complete it in one game, send them all to pokemon box, then restart, load all the pokemon into the second file and choose a different starter, then do that again for the third save file. But you would have to trade the starter to pokemon box as well, or transfer it to diamond/pearl/platinum. Using that method, you could get them easily.

True, but if you don't have Pokemon Box (could you explain that one? Thanks...), then, transferring them is out of the question. For Pal Park purposes, why not go with the first evo of the Poke? (Another random question, but do the Pokemon acquired via Pal Park gain Exp. like a traded Poke?) By that logic, to get all of the Pokemon, you'd have to start the game three times, play it the whole way to get the next starter (from Johto) and then try and get them all through...

Sort of difficult to do...

To answer your question, yes, a pokemon that was Pal Park'd gets the boosted Exp points, just like a Traded one. A Pal Park'd Pokémon also receives the same booster multiplier as a traded Pokémon.

And it would be a bit difficult, but if you really wanted the starters, then you have to do that (or get 100 Win Streak or something on XD, but that's even harder). Besides, I still played through the game and restarted over and over again on my FireRed to get all three legendary dogs lol.

To those who actually have the time to do that, more power to them...

Thanks for the info. I just don't see going to the trouble right now (knowing me, actually, I will, just not right now... :frustrated: )

Hm... once you obtain the 200th Pokémon, you should get a match call from Professor Birch...

Is one of the Pokémon you obtained a Jirachi, Deoxys, or one of the pokemon in the new safari zone extended area? (basically things like Miltank, Shuckle, Spinarak, Remoraid, etc.) If so, then that is the reason; it has to be at least 200 on the Hoenn Pokédex only, and it cannot include Jirachi or Deoxys.

You must have the 200 Pokemon in the Hoenn Dex (excluding Jirachi or Deoxys). The Miltank/Shuckle/Spinarak/Remoraid/Teddiursa/whatever extended safari zone pokemon don't count toward the Hoenn Dex, and as such, don't matter in getting the three Johto starters.

Additionally, try this from the main site: http://www.psypokes.com/emerald/pokemon.php
The three starters stuff is just at the top (you won't miss it...).

You can catch the Extended Safari Zone area pokemon; you don't need to reset. But, do you have all the Hoenn dex pokemon excluding Jirachi and Deoxys? If you do, then you should be able to get it.

Sorry if I confused you, what I meant is that you only need the Hoenn Dex Pokémon. Ditto, Jirachi, Deoxys, Safari Zone extension Pokémon are just excess. You can still catch them, but it won't count toward the Johto Starters.
