I think if Nintendo plays its cards right, and doesn't make catching 'em all too impossible by releasing lots more pokemon, the pokemon game series could continue for as long as something like Zelda or even Final Fantasy. It's an excellent turn based strategy game, and there aren't many others like it with the same feel to it- most are more dungeon-based, offer less competitive choices, or don't offer the same level of strategy as pokemon does with natures, EVs and abilities.

Hmmm....about 7-10 more years. Nintendo needs to take its time on the games coming out. That way the quality of the games will shine through and people seeing the good reviews will pick up the game and try it out.

It would last forever, it already created a subculter with a cult like following. Look at the sales numbers for when Ru/Sa and Fr/Lg came out there were #1 and for about 2 months after.

Pokemon is no longer a niche market, they apeal to so many people on so many different levels. The little kiddies can watch the show and play with there favorite PKMN, Teen-adults can Play the game and build strategies, They also have a following with the TGC people. Pokemon is allways trying to nab more fans with games like the Puzzle league, PKMN pinball, Dash, hey you pikachu.

The Mainstream craze maybe over or closing to the end but Pokemon is still going strong, Even if the annual movies isnt shown in the theaters anymore and is a direct to dvd release there still being made and bought.

Expect pokemon to be like the classics mention above, the are stupid things that nintendo can do to screw up things like releasing to many Pokemon in one game, or releasing a follow ups too soon.

all nicely said. Although it already lost a lot of it's fan base (from when it was new, and a huge fad), the fact that little kids don't obsess over it anymore makes it more atractive to older gamers. I also think that since video games in general are reletively new, it's hard to say what is lasting long and what isn't, because we've nothing to compare it to

I want pokemon to last for ever but i thinkk it is dying out rapidly, because they are eventually going to run ot of ideas for cards, games and new pokemon.

It would be nice if the world minus the United States could take full advantage of the everything in games. Face it, we aren't going to be getting Mew, Deoxys, Lugia, Ho-oh etc etc anytime soon. It took ages for us to get Mew in RBY as it was.

I think they are concentrating more on competitive battling, especially with Emerald having berries that will reduce EVs in certain stats, and also the battle frontier. That's good, especially for the older people.

3 years, 4 months, 9 days, 6 hours, 17 minutes, and 57 seconds... 56... 55... 54... 53...

Don't ask why, I was tipped off a few months ago that an evil corporation was planning to take over the world and remove two things from it, Pokemon and Gary Coleman...

I have no idea what was that though I personally think that it wont go away, just like Link and his series, they are in it for good.

Pokemon is dying, but it'll last, they need to make better games, reamakes of GSC would be nice, and a pokemon yellow remake, they need to make the games great again like they were in RBY, and those are the games that had me, emerald, I got it, played for an hour, turned it off and did something else, I got red, I played it for 6 hours straight because it was that good, it was interesting, fun, and when it messed up on emerald it was like, "OH COME ON!!!!" but when it messed up on red, it was like "oh well" because they did it right. Even FRLG didn't recreate the magic the games once had. The show, back in indigo it was huge, even now, I knew someone who hated pokemon, I showed him the first episode and he was hooked on indigo, the originals were the best! When pokemon started it was HUGE, it was bigger than Mario for a bit, but nintendo played its cards wrong and now its dying. To make a good pokemon game nintendos gotta listenn to the people, or even, release a translate version of the ORIGINAL green, they gotta look back at the magic, listen to the people, combine'em and them might just make something almosts as good as RBY.

1)I agree, but the only problem is that Nintendo makes it to "kiddish" sometimes and then older people can't play it without ridicule. I know a couple of 18 year olds at my church who still like it (the game only, I'm the same way, the shows are way to hokey and the cards are ok but Magic the Gathering is a whole lot better, after all pokemon is based on magic :) ), and you can admit that at church because only jerks who noone likes make fun of you there, but at school or pretty much anywhere else you get made fun of for playing if you're over the age of ten.

I hope it will last for quite a while, cause I like it a lot

But I really think Nintendo should do more for the non Asian and American players, or they will lose loads of fans of this series. It just lowers the fun you have playing, when you know you'll never get the chance of cathing some of the pokemon. Though I like it that there are some really really rare ones, I think it can't be the right way to limit them to specific countries...
Now even the german pokemon-homepage shut down. :(

In my opinion pokemon is a game that hase great chances for going on a lot longer, if you give people the chance to play and fight each other over the whole world. A pokemon game that could connect via Internet would be soooo cool! Cause usually I'm just sitting at home, playing for myself, because I'm a 'little' to old to go out and play with the little kids on the schoolyard... (If somebody is wondering how old I am: I'm getting 23 this july). But this game is really about interacting with other players, so just give this more chances! (I just read about a new Nintendo-console that will follow the gamecube, and they said it would be possible to play via internet, so maybe...) 8)

Finally: Back in the old GSC-days I loved the day and night changes, especially that you could meet some of the pokemon only during a specific time. That made the whole game kind of more challanging and realistic. I would love to see this again! I think Nintendo should listen more to the players wishes, then these games will have a chance of becoming much bigger than they are now!

I think pokemon will have the ability to go on forever simply because there's nothing like it. Also lot's of people ask me "Aren't you a little old to play pokemon?" But the thing is that the games are really good, and amazingly original. Pokemon is definitely the best RPG i've played. The TV show is a little too childish for me, cards are okay, figureines are dead, but the game is sill fantastic!

You guys...talk of this dampens your spirit! Don't look at the future, look at the present. We love it! Why would that change anytime soon? It's lasted almost 10 years, why would it change now? Breeding, battling raising and more keep our love for Pokemon alive! The more you worry the more you will turn away from it, so just keep playing, because that is the only way to keep it alive.

I absolutely agree with Truestar. Nintendo keeps on coming up with things that get us hooked. In Red, Blue, and Green it was the basic starting point: battling and training. Yellow came along with an interesting feature, i.e. Pikachu following around, which held peoples interest. After that was the Metallics. They introduced 100 more Pokemon, a whole new world, day and night, re-battling your opponents, breeding, berries, customizable pokeballs, and even going back to Kanto. Even more stuff to keep us hooked! Next is the Gems, which took some things away, but also added new exciting features. FireRed and LeafGreen came out and they retained the charm of the originals but also added more things to give it a little more spice. If Nintendo and Game Freak manage to keep on thinking of new ways to enhance pokemon then the series may never die. Don't lose faith my friends, for without faith then Pokemon will lose a big fan base and will, in time, die.

To sum it up: if we keep on believing in the innovation Pokemon then it will continue it's immortal path, but if we continue with unsure talk and worries then Pokemon will surely crumble and will never be able to right itself.

What I feel is that it is quite possible that Nintendo stops producing more Pokemon games eventually. However, Pokemon will never "die out", simply because it has lasted so long (from RBY to PD  ), so even if no new games are released people will still play the old games, and even if they don't, they will remember Pokemon. So Pokemon will last indefinitely IMO.

i think that in 70 years some kid will be surfin the highly advanced net and will come upon a page called psypoke and learn about pokemon then post in some topic then the mods will say... you necromanced! noone has posted in that thread in 59 years! youre banned!

then pokemon will be lost forever... lol bassically i say i say there is 11 years or so in Pokemon future :)

and the kid in the year 2075 thing... could happen (maybe he'll post in this thread and see me predicting that he will read this... yes kid from 2075 i am psychic :D

Picking up on what you said about it being too kidish. It would be good if Nintendo brought out a slightly altered version of say... FireRed & LeafGreen - designed to target older gamers. The Box Art could be perhaps black and red and Charizard could look more ferocious. They could change the story to make it more interesting and complex and maybe even more darker but I don't really see that happening.

An online, free roam, become a gym leader/anything else you want, Pokemon RPG would certainly bring the ex-fans crawling back. Also a darker pokemon would be awesome, or one where you're a Rocket or something.

I guess as long as the fans are around. I also know that if they go over 500 pokemon, alot of fans are gong to leave, considering it's already almost impossible to get 386! Another reason alot of the crowd died down is when Ruby and Sapphire came out, everyone was anticipating the 24 badge game to get a lame 8 badge game. I think they should have stuck with the Gold/Silver/Crystal Idea. I mean, how cool would it be if D/P have 32 badges, and 450+ pokemon, all within the two games. That sounds alot better then having to buy (or rent for that matter) six different games, and still not be able to get Celebi (unless you live in Japan). But, to get back on Topic, it all depends on the fans...
