Heya,

So I was going to finally get a copy of Pearl and then i heard about Platinum coming out. As far as I could tell with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, except for the Pokemon spread, Emerald was just like the other games just with tweaks and updates.
But it doesn't seem so simple with Platinum. I know the story is different, but I don't know how different. And I have know idea about the rest of the game itself, such as items and stuff.

Is it true that you can switch out the Pokeballs that you store your Pokemon in?

And are their customization options for trainers or is that just a one-time thing at the first of the game?

I believe this should be in the question thread, but....

And are their customization options for trainers or is that just a one-time thing at the first of the game?

As far as I am aware, the answer is a 'No' to both of those questions. As far as selecting which game to get is concerned, wait for Pt. It has so many extras in it that you get more for your money and won't feel like you have to buy an extra game to make sure you don't miss out.

I'm probably gonna' end up getting Platinum, switching all my Pearl Pokemon to it, and selling Pearl.
But I bet everyone else will be doing that too.
This is about the time that I wish you could trade to different cartridges on Pokemon Ranch...
*sigh*

I'm keeping my Pearl version. I'm not going to sell mine when I do finally get Platinum; I like having more than one version. Plus I will play them both.

The only different versions I have of the same generation is Pokemon Red and Yellow; After I played Crystal, Silver/Gold seemed less fun and, playing Emerald, I gave my Sapphire to my friend.
The "middle versions" just have so much more little features and (most of the time) a better storyline, which in comparison, the original two look sorta' bad. They're certainly NOT bad, but they appear that way...
And Red still rocks my world. :D

I haven't really looked into it but I would assume that in Platinum you will be able to get all of the standard legendaries like Dialga and such, I have both of the current versions atm and am sure that I will be getting platinum. I like the difference in the story line from what I have seen, the very first thing I liked was the incorporation of RBY in the beginnign, where you fight your rival right after you recieve your pokemon basically giving you a free level for your victory. I am also getting the new DSI when it comes out, rumors say that they will come out at the same time but not until early 2009. I would just wait until then if you dont have the money to spend on the new one, I'm sure like most of the previous gens the 3rd one will continue to be the best.

would suggest getting platinium, but looking at the release dates of diamond and pearl, it wont be in the US until late april and EU until fricking June/July

So it depends on what you want, and if you can wait 6-9 months

I would get platinum because it has everything that Diamond and Pearl has plus more. I won't sell Diamond or Pearl because I like to have all the games and Platinum will probably be missing a few Pokemon that are in Diamond and Pearl so they will be useful.

I'm still gonna keep my diamond version and my pearl version when platinum comes out in case I need to evolve a pokemon by trade.

Yeah, I mean let's say you have a kadabra and you trained it through the story of Platinum and realize "I sold my diamond/pearl version so I can't evolve it. That was a waste :( "

I actually have a bunch of trade-evolving Pokemon that I can't evolve because No body local has a DS/Pokemon Game. I'll just save them for platinum. :D

Oh, do they evolve through wi-fi trade? Hah, I didn't know that!
I'll have to take you up on that offer! Thanks Ranger!
Also, another good reason to keep both would be you could breed a super team and trade the level one-ies over to Platinum; but can non-sinnoh Pokemon be traded over to a game that doesn't have national dex yet?

Yeah, that's right, you can trade a national dex pokemon to a sinnoh dex game but when you look at the number it just says: ???
