I could make 50 billion different poll questions.
But the one I chose was: which language are you taking at school or which one are you fluent in?
I am relatively fluent in Hebrew, and passably in Spanish.
Unfortunately, I'm a chem major, so those are BAD choices - none of the research was there. Now my college wants me to choose from German, French, and Russian.
So, I'm going to start German next fall - I cannot learn another alphabet (I know English, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew), and French has too much between the silent endings and the accents.
So, in your posts, which languages are you fluent in, which ones would you like to be fluent in, and which languages have you taken, and wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy.
Also, it might be a good idea for conversational purposes to mention funny things in your class, false friends (ie, french coin, German kind), and hints and tips for learning languages.
Yes, I realise I left out major languages - anyone taking modern Greek? Maybe Urdu?

I'm currently learning German, French and Welsh (How many of you even knew we had our own language??) but I've got to drop 1 of them soon. Anyone suggest which?

I'm taking Spanish, just 'cuz I thought it'd be useful with all the Spanish speaking countries and such.
Though it's my first year of a real language course, and I was given a choice.

I'm taking my third year of Spanish right now. I've been told that I'm magnificently adept at it, and one of my teachers suggested I consider skipping a year, so AP Spanish for senior year may be a possibility?

obviously I speak portuguese, and will soon start french. And also know a bit of spanish.
NOTE: It's god to remember that portuguese is my first language and english is my second, so if you think about it, you'll see that in true, the foreign language to me is english, and not portuguese.

My only optional language was Spanish, but French and Irish were compulsory already so I didn't need a third one.

I'm on my third year of Spanish and this year is the worst, there's too many words to remember and we have quizzes almost every day.

Obviously, I'm fluent in English. :P
Also, I'm in my third year of taking German (and am highest in the year - which isn't much of an achievement considering that only ten people took it for GCSE :/). I've been studying French for five years now, but I'm still dreadful at it.
In previous years, I was also forced to take Portuguese (for two years) and Spanish (for one year). However, I cannot remember a thing from those two languages.

I'm arabic but I'm fluent in english(I mean very fluent, I have an awesome british accent wich is more british then most british people).
and I'm rather offended that you put hebrew and arabic together in the same option, they're nothing the same, I'm also not really fond of jews, I don't hate them, I'm just not fond of them.

I've been taking French since year seven, I started German in year eight, and I've chosen myself to start going to a Mandarin Chinese class now (Year nine). I absolutely hate german; although mainly because I have this stupid cow for a german teacher, I don't like the language either. I like french, and at the moment I'm finding Chinese ok, but if I decide I don't like it I can give it up whenever I want.

i took spanish for one year, and never went back.
i was going to take german, but my dad forced me to take spanish because of all the uh..hispanic people that live here. i switched schools anyway, so i doubt taking german would have really done anything.
my current school (that's right, i switched again) offers mandarin chinese after school, but i can't attend. sucks, that would have been fun to learn.

I am currently taking my 11th year of french. This is the second non-compulsory year so it's taken pretty seriously. The two page assignments that we get every weekend are starting to become a nuisance, not so much because they have to be in french but because of the large amount of research that needs to be done for each one. I suppose that by now I am pretty good in reading and understanding people speak and ok in writing and speaking myself.
I also took Polish one year in Saturday school. It was pretty much learning about Polish history and brushing up on grammar since all or most of us could already speak, read, and write. It was also pretty cool to hang out with a group of people who were all Poles. I stopped taking the courses because the homework was too much on top of my regular classes.

I chose other because I'm studying French, Italian and I used to study Welsh which wasn't on your poll list.
EDIT: *high-fives Conman2k8* Welsh! Woot! You from Wales? If so where? (we could battle!)

I'm on my third year of French . . . my grade school didn't offer any language, so this is my first foreign language. And AP and 4 are both available after taking 3 years of a language, so I'll be going into AP.

In my school, English is mandatory and in 6th grade, you have a choice to choose between French and German. I'm in grade 8 now, so I have been taking English for 8 years and German for 3 years.

Russian was my origin language (I was born here though) and then I learned English. So I guess you can say that English is my foriegn language xD. But in my school I'm taking French, although I think the essentials are enough. I'm forgetting my Russian and adding up on my English so I only know the basics for Russian now, sadly I can't read or write in it. Just speak ._.

Indian is my first language. English my 2nd. Malaysian my 3rd. Italian my 4th. The only hard thing is switching with the roman and non-roman alphabets.
