This article is about a newly found planet near a a star like the sun. What do you think about the article? Do you know anymore about this?

We have found about a hundred other palnets, with similar densities to the earth. Unfortuately, they fail to hold life for a variety of reasons. This one has a problem of being far out past neptune (it is 330 Astronomical units, or earth-sun distances, from its star), has the mass of a brown dwarf (failed star - 8 times the mass of jupiter), and has no organic elements necessary (Hydrogen and Oxygen are not enough - Sulfur, lots mroe Carbon, Phosphorus all need to be plentiful in liquid form).

Lots of hype, not enough to say "space mission".

What disappoints me about space findings is they write articles about them and further research is rarely published for the layman.

Nothing I remember says anything about it being able to support life...... why did you mention it?

Newly discovered planets are too far away! And the newly-discovered stars are soooooooo BIG!The sun looks like an ant to them!

ant is a understatment, it's like an atom compared to some other stars. I'm sure that there are planets that can sustain life, I just don't beleive we'll ever discover them.

I think it's very callus of you to assume that all lifeforms must be carbon based. Who's to say in this vast universe (vast is an understatement) that life could not have emerged from other circumstances?

Ah.. here is where my astronomy shines. There are theories when a nebulic mass decended upon earth, causing a split on the atoms which then joined together to create supplements of carbon, H2O/water and other basic materials for living organisms. It also could soon happen to other planets. For example, maybe organisms there could consist on their body being radium or another element. Like for example we may think that all organisms on earth should have iron in their blood (gives a red colo(u)r), but crabs have heamocaynin (spl?) which subsitutes iron for copper (gives out turqouise colo(u)r). Who knows, maybe their body can be heat resistant? Or live in icy climates (think Star Wars). My only guess is that we may find another life source in the future, deep future.
