There are a bunch of topics in here that seem to ask whether another person likes a genre or an artist or even a particular song. It's difficult to actually see a person's personal tastes unless he participates in, and one actually read every thread. Now, my understanding is that most people here have a very narrow appreciation of music, and this thread is to prove or disprove this notion.

Open every song you have on your entire computer/mp3 player in any media player. Turn shuffle on, turn off repeat, and make sure selection is entirely random (certain media players can be adjusted so they are more likely to shuffle the same artist or genre of the previous song). Press play and skip through and record the title and artist of the next 10-35 songs and add them to your reply. Don't be embarrassed if that one Britney Spears song you have out of your entire library happens to be chosen, please include it. :) Anyway (rating optional):

1. Johannes Brahms - Double Concerto in A minor, Op. 102, Mvt. III: Vivace non troppo (3)
2. Frédéric François Chopin - Ballade No. 2 in F major, Op. 38 (4)
3. AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long (5)
4. Megadeth - Sin (4)
5. Frédéric François Chopin - Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21, Mvt. I: Maestoso (5)

6. Billie Holiday - God Bless the Child (3)
7. Pearl Jam - Why Go (2)
8. Garbage - Stupid Girl (4)
9. The Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It) (3)
10. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Good Girl (5)

11. Franz Peter Schubert - Serenade No. 4, D957 (3)
12. Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina - O Magnum Mysterium (2)
13. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Sonata No. 10 in C major, K330 (4)
14. Franz Peter Schubert - Ave Maria (German) (3)
15. Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight (5)

16. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Quartet No. 3 in G major: Presto (3)
17. Metallica - Eye of the Beholder (3)
18. Prince - Purple Rain (2)
19. Frédéric François Chopin - Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11, Mvt. III: Rondo: Vivace (5)
20. Rush - A Farewell to Kings (4)

21. Antonio Lucio Vivaldi - Concerto in E: Largo (5)
22. Incubus - Nebula (1)
23. Metallica - Hit the Lights (4)
24. Metallica - Dyers Eve (5)
25. Johannes Brahms - Symphony No. 3 in F major: Allegro, Op. 90: Allegro (4)

26. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Symphony No. 29 in A major, K201: Allegro moderato (3)
27. Manowar - The Power (5)
28. Styx - Mr. Roboto (3)
29. The Offspring - Come Out and Play (5)
30. Van Halen - Pretty Woman (2)

31. Madonna - Express Yourself (4)
32. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Concerto No. 23 in A (2.5)
33. Eric Clapton - Groaning the Blues (3)
34. Frédéric François Chopin - Nocturne No. 6 in G minor, Op. 15/3 (5)
35. Robert Schumann - Träumerei in F major (5)

Ok, so I have a lot of classical, but not as many individual songs as other genres. I have about 100 fewer classical songs than rock, but an hour more of music. In all honesty, I omitted video game music due to titling issues, but a lot of Kirby and Mega Man came up. Excluding classical, most of my music comes from the 90's.

I have 990 songs in total.

Quote:
1. Melee Theme Remix - Super Smash Bros. Melee (Super Smash Bros.) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 6/10
-------------------------- With SSBB songs, I like to put the game and series of origin as the listed artist.
2. Hajimari no Uta - PUFFY - Mew and the Wave Guiding Hero, Lucario: Music Collection - 10/10
3. Livin' in the Fast Lane - The Sugarhill Gang - The Best of the Sugarhill Gang - 7/10
4. Quartz Quadrant: Past - Spencer Nilsen - Sonic CD PC Version - 7/10
5. Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz - Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 19 - 7/10

Quote:
6. Fountain of Dreams - Hikozaru Ando, Tadashi Ikegami, Shogo Sakai, et al. - Super Smash Bros. Melee - 10/10
7. Black Cat - Janet Jackson - Janet Jackson's Rhthym Nation - 7/10
8. If Your Love Cannot Be Moved - Stevie Wonder feat. Kim Burell - A Time 2 Love - 9/10
9. Hitch a Ride - Boston - Boston - 7/10

-------------------------- Boston has extremely talented musicians, and I love everything they do that involves an instrument; however, their voices are noticeably less fabulous.
10. Yoshi's Island - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 9/10
-------------------------- This is one of my favorite Brawl songs. In general, I really love the Mario spinoff music (Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Wario). It's so jazzy and fun it just makes me smile :D.

Quote:
11. Sunlight - Natalie Imbruglia - White Lilies Island - 7/10
-------------------------- I really love Natalie Imbruglia, but this is one of the songs I like less from her. Hopefully a better song by her comes up before I finish the list.
12. Thoughts & Memories - Ronnie Laws - Every Generation - 8/10
-------------------------- This is a very relaxing and enjoyable songs. Not one of the direct reasons why I love Ronnie Laws, but it does help. He's a great saxophonist and even though we play different types, I hope to be like him when I grow up.
13. Girls Ain't Nothing but Trouble - DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Greatest Hits - 10/10
-------------------------- I absolutely love and adore the fresh prince. His rapping was so cute and his lyrics were so funny. His beats were good too, but those can't compare to his voice and lyrics. Unfortunately, maturiity/time raped the hell out of his vocal chords and he isn't as good anymore. :[
14. Let Your Hair Down - The Temptations - Number 1's: The Temptations - 7/10
-------------------------- Like most people, I have a space in my heart for the songs Ain't Too Proud to Beg and My Girl, so when I found out my friend had an album with those songs on it, I asked her to send me the whole thing. Unfortunately, it's not very much my forte and I haven't listened to them much since I got it, for which I am ashamed. Most of them do provide a decent listening experience, however.
15. Bonus Challenge - Naofumi Hataya - Sonic Heroes - 8/10
-------------------------- This song very much surprised me. When I sampled it, I didn't pay much attention to it, but after downloading it and listening it the whole way through, I was AMAZED. This is a very catchy dancing song and even as a type this I whoa that felt good. In the middle of the sentence I just had to get up and dance to it. For those of you who don't remember this beautiful tune (from a crappy game), this song played during the special stages.

Quote:
16. Welcome to the 60s - Tracy Turnblad & Edna Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky & John Travolta) - Hairspray: Soundtrack to the Motion Picture - 7/10
-------------------------- I love this movie and its soundtrack, but this is one of the tracks I like less.
17. One Man Woman - Quincy Jones - Back on the Block - 7/10
-------------------------- See above.
18. The War - D.L. Hughley - Notes From The GED Section (Explicit) - 7/10
-------------------------- This guy is a very funny comedian, but his racial bits I don't like so much. He's the only comedian I have and majority of his songs are rated 7/10.
19. Cristo Redentor - David Sanborn - Timeagain - 7/10
-------------------------- This is a saxophonist's album that my middle school music teacher gave me. The music itself isn't too great, but good enough for me to keep, and most of it is very relaxing. Having songs by an artist who plays the same instrument as you is always good/cool.
20. King K. Rool / Ship Deck 2 - Donkey Kong Country (Donkey Kong) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 9/10

Quote:
21. I'll Cover You - Rent - The Best of Rent - 10/10
22. Eight Days a Week - The Beatles - The Beatles One - 10/10

-------------------------- The only Beatles song I have, and the only one I'll ever need. I'm even going to listen to the whole thing before clicking the shuffle button again.
23. To Forge the New Frontier - [Pelli's Middle School] Band - [Pelli's 7th Grade Band competition] - 7/10
-------------------------- Unfortunately we weren't too great and the sample version our teacher gaves us beforehand is much better.
24. Ricco Harbour [Original] - Super Mario Sunshine (Super Mario Bros.) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 8/10
-------------------------- The song that made me realize how good the SMS music is.
25. Window in the Skies - U2 - U218 Singles - 7/10
-------------------------- I had no idea I would ever like U2 at all until my dad bought this album and listened to it in the car. I love several of their songs, but I only wish one of their better ones came up.

Quote:
26. The Dance Party - Shinji Miyazaki - Mew and the Wave Guiding Hero, Lucario: Music Collection - 7/10
-------------------------- I like orcehstral music.
27. Marionatin Gear - Chosoju Mecha MG - Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 6/10
28. Collision Chaos: Bad Future - Spencer Nilsen - Sonic CD PC Version - 7/10
29. Yellow River - Christie - Seventies Legends - 7/10
30. The Place You Find Love - Quincy Jones - Back on the Block - 10/10

-------------------------- Unless I get lucky and something incredible happens, this should be the greatest song on the list by the time I end.

Quote:
31. His World (Instrumental) [Original] - Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) (Sonic the Hedgehog) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 8/10
-------------------------- While I can admit to loving this song, I don't understand why all Sonic fans hail it so. It seems it appears in every sonic amv/fan movie meant to have an "epic" feel.
32. Nobody Not Really - Alica Keyes - Diary of Alicia Keyes - 7/10
-------------------------- I would like this song more if it didn't make me so sad.
33.Mighty Fine Blues - Eels - Holes - 7/10
-------------------------- This movie has a good soundtrack.
34. Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior - Super Metroid (Metroid) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl 7/10
-------------------------- Brawl has so many songs it's messing up the shuffle -.-
35. Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park - Meteora - 8/10
-------------------------- One of my first favorite songs. Not so anymore, however, but still good.

I wish this could have been more diverse. Did I even get any Stevie in here? I didn't get any Phyllis Hyman, or any Polyphonic Spree, or jazzy themes from Pixar, or those couple of good songs from iTunes free section. No Cheryl Lynn, Earth Wind & Fire, Hitch, or Evanescence, either? Sheesh. Maybe once I get my Top 50 list up I'll post that so you can see the songs I actually care about.

29. Let It Rain - Tilly and the wall
30. Anne - Santogold

31. Whatever - Gnarls Barkley
32. Private Idaho - The B-52's
33. Baby Cakes - Dee Dee Sharp
34. Secret Agent Limbo Team (Limbo Rock) - The Backyardigans
35. Devil's Hairvut - Beck

I LOST ALL MY INDIE CRED.

but seriously, that was may more Dee Dee Sharp than I expected. I think I have around 14 out of 3100 songs by her, strange. Same with The Flaming Lips and Talking Heads. I expected that with Bjork, though. I did manage to get my favorites in there (B-52's, Bjork, Cirque) but I also managed to get two Christmas Carols, Children's Television songs, and Paris Hilton. A fair tradeoff, in my opinion.

The amount of times that Lostprophets and Foo Fighters comes up surprises me, especially considering that I don't even like them that much. The abundance of OSTs speak for themselves. :P

This randomised list doesn't really represent my usual listening habits. Adjust the list to include a bit more obnoxious J-pop, some more indie and a LOT of Muse, and you have a better representation.

If you highlight folders containing music and right click, there are two options, "Add to Windows Media Player list" or "Play in Windows Media Player". If you choose one of those options, it should play all the music contained within the folder. If all your music is in one folder with many subfolders, right clicking and selecting one of those options on the main folder should add all music to the player within it. It might take a few moments though.

Another way might be to "Search" your music folder (or possibly your entire computer) for "*.mp3" or whatever file type your music is, and it will find all your files with that extension. Then you can Ctrl+A and enter, or select the mp3's that are music. Otherwise you have to manually select your music files, adding them to the playlist individually as folders by right clicking and choosing the "Add to Windows Media Player list" option.

okay so I tried searching for "mp3" for every music file on my computer, but WMP refuses to add all of them (4239) into a nice playlist so I guess I will only include my collection of songs and not my sister's and cousin's too. (I don't know why that number is so big.. i think I only have under 1,000 songs in my folder :x)

1. My Love - Justin Timberlake Ft. T.I.
2. The Crane Wife 3 - The Decemberists
3. Three Flights Up - Yellowcard
4. Love Is A Marathon - Teddy Geiger
5. Toxic - Britney Spears

1 was all over the radio but I think that's okay, never really listened to 2 properly but I don't like it much (too... country? for me), used to really love 3, 4 is soso and 5 is... pretty good actually!

6. Stockholm Syndrome - Muse
7. Marching Bands Of Manhattan - Death Cab For Cutie
8. Natural Anthem - The Postal Service
9. Believe Me - Fort Minor
10. How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead

6 is one of my favs ever, don't like 7 much, 8 is awesome, 9 sounds like the next big hit (even though I'm told this song is ooooold) and 10 is beautiful.

11. Emily - From First To Last
12. Grazed Knees - Snow Patrol
13. I'm A Fake - The Used
14. For What Reason - Death Cab For Cutie
15. This Time - Vanessa Carlton

11 I downloaded once because I was really bored and my cousin told me was an awesome song... haven't got round to listening to it properly but I just burst out laughing. 12 is sweet, haven't heard 13 properly, 14 is not one of the band's better songs and I like 15. Bar A Thousand Miles I love Vanessa Carlton!!

16. Tangled - Maroon 5
17. Banquet - Bloc Party
18. Time - Timbaland ft. She Wants Revenge
19. Fight For Your Right - Beastie Boys
20. Tears and Rain - James Blunt

16 is alright, when it popped up I was all "awww i used to love this!!" I strongly dislike 17, haven't heard 18 enough but it's not too bad. nooo idea how 19 got into my music folder, and i've never ever heard it ever, and 20 is kinda average.

21. Cover Me - Mae
22. Scientist Studies - Death Cab For Cutie
23. Lullaby For a Stormy Night - Vienna Teng
24. You're So Damn Hot - OK Go
25. Black Is Back - Pitchers

I've been meaning to listen to Mae's album for some time now, but I just haven't gotten round to doing it, so can't say much for 21. I can kinda relate to 22, 23 is sweet, 24 is a super cool song that I love and 25... well you'd hear that sort of stuff in clubs and stuff. Still think that's alright though!

26. Interlude - Muse
27. The Heart of Life - John Mayer
28. American Dream - Switchfoot
29. So Simple - Alicia Keys
30. Don't Wait - Dashboard Confessional

Can't really comment on 26, I pretty much adore Continuum, 28 is pretty solid and sweet. 29, nyeeeh, I just didn't like that album at all and 30 I have probably played it once (will get around to listening to that album soon too!)

31. Exit Music (For a Film) - Radiohead
32. Advertising Space - Robbie Williams
33. Uncle Jonny - The Killers
34. Bite My Tongue - Relient K
35. This Boy - James Morrison

Radiohead are pretty much genius, 32 is extremely standard safe radio friendly song, 33 is awesome, 34 is pretty good too and 35 is kinda boring.

umm i guess my tastes would be

1. Rilkean Hearts - Cocteau Twins although this album isn't up to par, i love me some cocteau twins. 80's were way better than people give it credit for.
2. 04/19/05 - Fantosmas not a huge mike patton fan but fantosmas interests me enough
3. Oh comely - Neutral Milk Hotel love it. epic. beautiful album
4. Tu Es un Peu A Moi - Francoise Hardy best french pop singer ever
5. Absolutely Cuckoo - Magnetic Fields hilarious and most appropriate opening to an album about 'love songs'
6. Weeping Wall - David Bowie low is probably my fav of the berlin trilogy.
7. Drum and the Uncomfortable Can - Liars awesome album, annoyed that no one i know loves it as much as i do even though it was critically acclaimed
8. Question - Francoise Hardy yep
9. Greenman - XTC XTC one of the best pop bands ever, songwriting skills up there with lennon/macartney. get the album skylarking if you're into 60's pop ala beatles, kinks etc.
10. Tu Me Acostumbraste - Caetano Veloso from one of the most famous brazilian tropicalia records, this was when Caetano Veloso was still considered cool. apparently he hates the album, but i love it for its quirkiness.
11. Heartbeat and Sails - Augie March briliant australian band.
12. Letter from Rimbaud - Marnie Stern any girl that can shred and reference rimbaud is awesome
13. Things Are Looking Up - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong album not as strong as you would think it was
14. Dracula Mountain - Lightning Bolt hell ya son
15. There's a Boat Dat's Leavin' Soon for New York - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
16. How Long Blues - Odetta blues folk sung through a brilliant voice. inspiration to dylan
17. Surrender - DNA sound of new york underground in the 70's. need to listen to the whole album before you can throw up and celebrate
18. Del Mondo - Robert Wyatt voice tells you of a life lived in trees. haunting and brilliant. living legend
19. Sanctuary - Miles Davis from bitchesbrew, nothing really else to say about this album that hasnt already.
20. False Ending - Yo La Tengo i think yo la tengo have always been consistently good. i love how you can hear how much they love music when they play. perfect geek rock.
21. Catfish - Bob Dylan i have crazy amounts of dylan bootlegs/unreleased on my computer and im suprised it took this long for him to pop up. everyone who says bob dylan can't sing doesnt know crap about music.
22. Dead and Lovely - Tom Waits vagabond, town crier, flaming clergyman. seeing tom waits in the summer; possibly be the highlight of my life thus far.
23. Gardenhead/Leave me alone - Neutral Milk Hotel live track. awesome band.
24. Tea Song - Michael Hurley more folk. big fan of muchael hurley. somewhat underappreciated, but inspiration to many folk artists today.
25. Naiive Melody (This Must Be The Place) - Talking Heads i think this is an appropriate way to end the list. one of the most beautiful love songs ever

also, kirke, remain in light > little creatures.

GREAT TOPIC, I love to see what kind of music taste others have, it's refreshing. Music is usually a great conversation starter for me, I could talk for hours about it. Songs that are bolded are songs that I particularly enjoy more than others. My source of shuffled music is my Sansa mp3 player (I'm non-conformist and anti-iPod...JUST JOKING, calm down).
