Well for me I catch extra Pokemon. For example, my first to get HM is cut I probably catch another Oddish and teach Cut to it. So that way you dont need your party pokemon to learn HM's except for really needed moves like Surf. Put your HM slave to a special box for future references. I wouldn't take chances,for finding big mushrooms/tinymushrooms for remembering.

Because of some HM moves dont really help in battles.

If you dont agree to me,trade a Mew it learns any TM and HM.

Agreeing with *superiorchingling* ; {azumaril} was one of my biggest HM slaves on my Ruby.

Other HM slave favorites:

Linoone
Pelliper
Raticate
Pidgeot
Furret
Bibarel
Various starter pokemon when I was a newbie at the games :lol: (I had cut on my Blaziken until I got a slave, after the 5th gym)
Golbat
Pikachu (flash) / Plusle / Minun

If I owe/ said I would donate you psybucks, please PM me ASAP (preferably a link to the page that I "bought" the item) and I will try to round them up as quickly as possible (of course, after the cash mod is fully functional). Thanks.

On my Ruby, I use Linoone and on Sapphire I use Azumarill. I really, really like Linoone as a "utility Pokemon" because he learns just about all of the HMs, he is all right if you absolutely have to use him in battle, and he knows pickup so you might be able to snag some free items while he's in your party.

I teach frequently used HMs like surf and fly to the Pokemon I actively use in my party, though. It's just easier.

{linoone} {azumarill}

{linoone} {azumarill}

I nicknamed one of my {linoone} "Cavemaster" because he knows:
Rock Smash
Strength
Cut
Dig

Rock Smash and Strength are used in caves, Cut outside caves, and Dig to get out of caves (Dig works the same as an Escape Rope)

I also like {linoone}'s Pick-up abillity, it comes in handy :) (It found me three Rare Candies in total :) )
I don't use him in battle much, so he's currently at level 29.

I never really use a Hm Slave because sometimes it can make the game better if you just spread the HMs around.

This Link goes to the a topic in Hoenn Region about this same thing but the people there have listed their "slave" / "utility" / "travel" pokemon's movesets. I found it very interesting and very helpful.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=689

The link works. I tested it.

My contribution to this other post was mainly a list of the pokemon that can learn FLY AND SURF .

Here's the quote.

Quote:
To me "utility" or "slave" pokemon are "travel" pokemon. You only use them when you're going somewhere, right?

I have used Azumarill, Zigzagoon/Linoone, Geodude/Graveler, Dragonite, Lapras, Wailord, Tropius, Seaking, and a few others. I won't name the movesets because I don't think it necessary. (You can guess pretty easily what I had in mine based on what others said were in their "travel" Pokemon' movesets.)

Pokemon can be made to forget HMs by the Move Deleter.

:idea:
I'm surprised that no one brought up anything about the pokemon that can learn FLY AND SURF
because that's one thing that has ALWAYS bothered me - only being able to have a team of five pokemon. (Being ADD I must have both moves available otherwise I'm constantly running to PCs so I can do something else :frustrated: before I forget about it.) Those are the 2 HMs that are used most often, right? :?:

So here's a list of which pokemon can learn FLY AND SURF :
Dragonite {dragonite}
Pellipper {pelipper}
Mew {mew}
Smeargle {smeargle}

I'm not familiar with Diamond/Pearl so can't add any pokemon from that generation. Feel free to add to my list with DP pokemon or any pokemon from older generations that I missed.

Hope this helps someone. :D

These HMs are in order of how often I use them.

1. Fly
2. Surf
3. Cut
4. Rock Smash

4 1/2. Headbutt (for older generations)
5. Strength
6. Dive
7. Waterfall
8. Flash
