Do you have to use the vitamins before a certain level? I tried to use them on a lvl 88 Alakazam and they didn't work...

I think that just means your alakazams attack is as high as it can go with out leveling up?

Speaking of HP Up, etc. I have a question on that...

If the limit of your Pokemon's stats is determined by Stat Experience (as opposed to EVs), then what is the real point of using the HP Up/Protein/Iron/Calcium/Carbos, as they'll end up being the same at the end anyway?

I know that in the case of the vitamins, it lasts for one battle, but I'm not sure about HP Up. Therefore, it makes the vitamins usable over again. But I would think that once you've reached your Max on a Stat for any Pokemon (which, theoretically doesn't happen until Level 100), they should still work. Not sure about HP Up, as I said before.

I'm pretty sure Protein, Calcium, Carbos, Iron, and HP Up are all permanent. X Attack, Defense, Special, and Speed are all temporary, one-battle-only items. This I'm sure about.

Also, I don't think your Pokémon automatically reach their max stat at level 100. This, however, I could be 100% wrong on.

Just to make sure you have a correct database, don't forget X Accuracy.

But my mistake about the vitamins, then.

Stat Experience differ from EVs in that there isn't a limit on the amount you can gain for each stat, which is effectively 252. This means that you can boost each stat to its maximum value without sacrificing other stats. A total of 65536 SE can be gained.

Turaga Dome is right in that you will not automatically reach your maximum stats once your Pokemon is at level 100, unless you have defeated the right number of Pokemon to give you the relevant stat experience. To check if your Pokemon has maxed out its SEs, check your Pokemon's stats when it reaches level 100. If the stats all correspond to their maximum values, then your Pokemon would have already maxed out its SEs.

As for your question, DNA, Vitamins do make a difference. I think you have misunderstood how Stat Experience work. True, your Pokemon will eventually end up with the same amount of SEs whether you obtain SEs via battling or by using Vitamins, but as with EVs, using Vitamins would boost the SEs for your Pokemon's stats faster compared to battling. That's the advantage.

Is anyone still confused on the matter? My explanation might seem a little vague.

So using the Vitamins will increase the SEs, whether you've battled much or not? I'm still sort of confused.

But as a clarification: X Attack/Defend/Accuracy/Special, etc. only one time use, and Vitamins are a long-lasting effect that only make a difference if you don't have Max Stats, right?

This can get very confusing...

Ah I see; I'd previously misunderstood the concept. Thanks, I understand now, but there's one last question I have:

Will battling Pokemon with NPCs boost all the stats in ways of Stat Experience, or just one or two? If the latter, how is that determined?

Using Vitamins raise SEs, that's it. Consider it as an alternative way of gaining SEs as compared to battling.

Yes, that is correct. It's not long-lasting; it's permanent so to speak.

Battling any Pokemon, be it wild or belonging to an NPC, would give Stat Experience in the relevant stats. It works the same way as EVs. As a guideline, if you gain Experience from a battle, you gain Stat Experience as well.
