I was just wondering what everyone's opinion of being able to catch a lv70 {rayquaza} before taking on the League in Emerald.

I haven't played Emerald, and haven't gotten too far on Sapphire, so I'm not sure if you get the Master Ball before you get the earliest chance to catch Rayquaza. If you do, then it is 100% cheap. If not, then it's about 70% cheap.

One important thing, if you don't have the Master Ball, it'll be the toughest legendary to catch in Pokemon history. Think about it; your Pokemon will most likely be below level 60, unless you trained them a lot, so a LV 70 Rayquaza vs. a LV 55 Swampert. It won't be easy to weaken it.

Now that was just an example, but you see my point. But catching Rayquaza at LV 70 pre-E4 is by far the cheapest chance at a capture ever.

I voted "fine" since I won't use Ray' anyway. My hobby has always been to try to beat the Elite Four using as many different teams as possible, and sometimes I even construct UU teams to fight the Elite Four :D

its obviously cheap..... the other hugest uuber of all time to the free world was mewtwo, and nintendo made it even HARDER to catch in the new games. If you cannot beat the E4 with a team that has held you together since the begginning, then why should you go get rayquaza just to do so
If Uuber Teams are what is needed to beat the elite, just go rayquaza, mewtwo, lugia, Kyogre, Ho-oH, Mew... see how much fun it is then

Rayquaza is more uber than Kyogre? Sorry, I don't bite. The only "cheap" thing about Rayquaza is getting it at 70. If you got it at 40 like the others, no way would it be as cheap as Kyogre. He has 2 of his "standard" moves learned by level, one of his moves in an HM, and the other is dirt cheap. You can have him ready to decimate most anything the second you catch him. All you need to do is level it up.

At any rate, I think that getting Rayquaza at lvl 70 before the E4 is kind of overpowered, but considering they allow ANY legendaries to be captured pre-E4, the point is somewhat moot.

It's cheap...'coz anyone who's on the track to the League would be busy training their team, and having a time to catch Rayquaza isn't too important. It's not even worth the MasterBall.

Well, I caught him in Sapphire. It took me long!!!!. About 1 hour!. Ultra balls aren't good. My strategy was to let him rest and fall asleep. then attack him. Let him rest agagin then I threw 1 Ultra Ball. A very helpful tip is to save the game before attacking him. Because you will not get another chance to fight him again if you kill him. It totally random but try hard and you will suceed no matter what version?

By the way howmuch does Emerald cost?

I see you're playing a rom. You said you save before attacking, that's impossible, and also, your last line...

Cheap cuase your Pokemon arn't even strong enough to do enough damge to catch him before you beat the leage. Even if you have your Pokes above Lv 50 you still don't have enough pp to take him out.

He's only there before the Elite Four is cleared, that doesn't mean he has to be captured before the Elite Four is cleared, does that? (I haven't been to that stage in my Emerald version yet though :? )

well I'm sure they opened him for the same reason as they had {kyogre} Kyogre and {groudon} Groudon before the eliet 4 so you can save the world and use them to defeat the eliet 4 (and complete your pokedex).

I'm taking my time and getting mine up strong enough to defeat the eliet 4 without a legnedary (not even the Regis). It's hard but it's coming along.

It is so cheap
legendaries are cheap in battle
we all know that
If you raise legendaries, I think you are just getting a free ride to glory
