I've just restarted Red, but I have a good idea of what my team should be. It's pretty close to the movesets in the psydex, but this is my first try at developing competitive movesets. Here's what my team will look like...

Image
~Swords Dance
~Body Slam
~Earthquake
~Flamethrower

Image
~Stun Spore
~Leech Seed
~Mega Drain
~Psychic

Image
~Reflect
~Recover
~Psychic
~Seismic Toss

Image
~Thunder Wave
~Softboiled
~Thunderbolt
~Ice Beam

Image
~Substitute
~Earthquake
~Rock Slide
~Body Slam

Image
~Thunder Wave
~Amnesia
~Psychic
~Surf

I've just restarted so any advice would be helpful and fixable.

Here are my main 4 at the moment:

Currently, I'm just doing Elite 4 runs to level myself up.

{pikachu} Level 51 (can't bring myself to ditch the little guy, although I know I should)

- Thunder (should've kept T-Bolt, just realized)
- Light Screen
- Body Slam
- Thunder Wave

{mewtwo} Level 77

- Psychic
- Recover
- Metronome (will replace with Blizzard)
- Mist

{articuno} Level 61

- Ice Beam (not needed with Blizzard, will swap for something else if possible)
- Mist
- Fly (because he doesn't get Drill Peck)
- Blizzard

{zapdos} Level 61

- Thunder (it was either this or T-Shock, as I already spent the T-Bolt TM)
- Drill Peck
- Fly (will replace through GSC tradeback)
- Light Screen

The other two I plan to use (eventually) are:

{slowbro}

- Surf
- Amnesia
- Psychic
- Unsure...

{gengar}

- Psychic
- Hypnosis
- Unsure for the last two, I was thinking T-Bolt/Confuse Ray, but what is recommended?

Edit: I've realized that Pikachu with Thunder actually hits very often, more often in fact than my Zapdos does (weird, huh?), so I feel safe leaving Thunder on Pika.

It's about as good as Charizard can do in pure RBY. You might want to replace Flamethrower with Fire Blast, but it's your choice.

Image
~Stun Spore
~Leech Seed
~Mega Drain
~Psychic

Really, Mega Drain isn't that helpful; its uses are covered by the other moves in Eggy's moveset: Psychic is good STAB move while Leech Seed handles recovery. Explosion or Sleep Powder are better choices.

Image
~Reflect
~Recover
~Psychic
~Seismic Toss

If you're playing pure RBY, this is Alakazam's most common, and probably most useful, set.

Image
~Thunder Wave
~Softboiled
~Thunderbolt
~Ice Beam

You can do about ten different things with Chansey but I still think this is her best moveset, so it's good.

Image
~Substitute
~Earthquake
~Rock Slide
~Body Slam

Standard competitive Rhydon, nothing else to say.

Image
~Thunder Wave
~Amnesia
~Psychic
~Surf

Standard competitive Slowbro, nothing else to say once again.

I've just restarted so any advice would be helpful and fixable.

Well, first of all, thanks for actually using my movesets from the main site. Five of your Pokemon are all standard choices with their standard movesets (except Mega Drain on Eggy), so there's nothing really bad to say about them.

The only really problem I see with this team is that Charizard is a rather poor lead Pokemon and, unfortunately, also a rather poor choice in general in RBY. I would recommend Persian or Gengar as your lead since Persian can hurt a lot of things through crithits and Gengar is the fastest sleeper in the game despite Hypnosis' shaky accuracy. Both are more useful than Charizard, but if Charizard happens to be one of your favorites and you want to use him, by all means, do it!

If your Pikachu is from Yellow and you have Pokemon Stadium, I would recommend trying to get Surf on Pikachu over Light Screen. If you get access to another Thunderbolt TM through some means, I would also recommend reteaching that over Thunder, since its accuracy can't be trusted.

{mewtwo} Level 77
- Psychic
- Recover
- Metronome (will replace with Blizzard)
- Mist
Mewtwo's most useful move by far is Amnesia, so teach it that over Mist. The only problem with Blizzard is that two of Mewtwo's "counters" (and I use that term loosely), Starmie and Slowbro, will then resist both of Mewtwo's offensive moves. But, then again, with Amnesia, that doesn't really matter anyway.

{articuno} Level 61
- Ice Beam (not needed with Blizzard, will swap for something else if possible)
- Mist
- Fly (because he doesn't get Drill Peck)
- Blizzard
Articuno's movepool is so shallow that it's almost unusable. Really, it's impossible to make a good moveset for Articuno in RBY. I would recommend Lapras if you really want another Ice Pokemon, but your team does have weaknesses to both Electrics and Rock/Grounds. A Rhydon with Earthquake, Rock Slide, Body Slam and Substitute would help take care of that.

{zapdos} Level 61
- Thunder (it was either this or T-Shock, as I already spent the T-Bolt TM)
- Drill Peck
- Fly (will replace through GSC tradeback)
- Light Screen
If you're trading to Crystal, you can teach Zapdos Thunderbolt from the move tutor. Otherwise, I guess there's not much you can do to make it better. It has a really shallow movepool, so Thunder Wave or Reflect (both through TM) are really the only options it has a replacement for Fly.

{slowbro}
- Surf
- Amnesia
- Psychic
- Unsure...
Since there's only one Thunder Wave TM, I recommend teaching Zapdos Reflect and Slowbro Thunder Wave for its fourth move. The paralysis of its opponent really helps Slowbro out.

{gengar}
- Psychic
- Hypnosis
- Unsure for the last two, I was thinking T-Bolt/Confuse Ray, but what is recommended?
Thunderbolt and Confuse Ray are two of Gengar's better options, but Mega Drain and Explosion are also good possibilities. Mega Drain will really hurt Golems and Rhydons and Explosion is great to take down Chanseys and such.

Edit: I've realized that Pikachu with Thunder actually hits very often, more often in fact than my Zapdos does (weird, huh?), so I feel safe leaving Thunder on Pika.

Besides Pikachu and Articuno, these are all obviously great choices for battling. And as I mentioned, Articuno is actually not that helpful and you would be better off replacing it with Lapras or Rhydon.

Here's kind of a weird moveset I thought of for {pidgeot} after looking at its TM moves:

Fly
Mega Drain (to give it better coverage, even though it's Special is low)
Hyper Beam
Mirror Move/Take Down/Double-Edge

I was extremely tired when I thought of this, lol.

Ok here is my idea for my Blue version team. I haven't used TMs at all, except for a few exceptions. Most TMs won't be a problem, nor will getting them to lvl 100, as I've abused the 'M glitch in almost every possible way.
So here's my team, and my thoughts on them atm:

{venusaur}
Solarbeam
Toxic
Leech Seed
Razor Leaf

I should have duplicated Toxic before I taught it to Venusaur, but too late. I'm thinking of changing Solarbeam, but I'm not sure what to change it to.

{ninetales}
Fire Spin
Quick Attack
Flamethrower
Confuse Ray

Thinking about changing Quick Attack and maybe Fire Spin (but it's much stronger in RBY than later gens), but, again, not sure what to.

{raichu}
Thunderbolt
Swift
Thunder
Agility

Looks fine to me for now. But as with all Raichus, defense is lacking.

{dugtrio}
Scratch
Slash
Dig
Earthquake

Kills in the blink of an eye. However I must change Scratch, but, as before, I don't know what to change it to.

{cloyster}
Spike Cannon
Ice Beam
Surf
Clamp

Looks fine for now. Defense is impeccable, and I might change either Clamp or Spike Cannon.

{aerodactyl}
Wing Attack
Agility
Fly
Hyper Beam

Great physical sweeper. And I've got to change Wing Attack. But, as before, not sure what.

I'm open to pretty much any suggestion, so rate away.
I don't have a Psychic type because Psychic can trump Poison and Fighting. Dugtrio can handle the Poison, and Aerodactyl can handle Fighting (now.)

I'm probably not the best person to rate your team, but I'll try.
{venusaur}
Solarbeam
Toxic
Leech Seed
Razor Leaf

I should have duplicated Toxic before I taught it to Venusaur, but too late. I'm thinking of changing Solarbeam, but I'm not sure what to change it to.

I would personally change Solarbeam to Body Slam. Venusaur isn't that fast, so paraslamming would help it greatly to land those criticals with Razor Leaf. I like the idea of Toxic/Leech Seed, I used to use that myself.

{ninetales}
Fire Spin
Quick Attack
Flamethrower
Confuse Ray

Thinking about changing Quick Attack and maybe Fire Spin (but it's much stronger in RBY than later gens), but, again, not sure what to.

Yea, you should change Quick Attack. You might also try Body Slam on Ninetales, because then you could have a shot to Burn, Confuse, or Paralyze on any given attack (save Fire Spin, but keep that since its movepool is pretty shallow).

{raichu}
Thunderbolt
Swift
Thunder
Agility

Needs Thunderwave. Edit: Missed the part that you're playing Blue. Ditch Thunder, because it's unreliable, and re-teach it Thunderwave. Swift is fine to hit diggers, but they'll knock you out in the process.

Looks fine to me for now. But as with all Raichus, defense is lacking.

{dugtrio}
Scratch
Slash
Dig
Earthquake

Kills in the blink of an eye. However I must change Scratch, but, as before, I don't know what to change it to.

I'd teach it Rock Slide, to deal with Flyers and Ice, and that's about the best I can come up with for Dugtrio. Otherwise it's fine.

{cloyster}
Spike Cannon
Ice Beam
Surf
Clamp

Looks fine for now. Defense is impeccable, and I might change either Clamp or Spike Cannon.

Change Spike Cannon; it's really, really bad. Its base power is 15 lower than Clamp and it won't get STAB for it. For TM moves, you can get away with Blizzard over Ice Beam, and as a fun suggestion, you can teach it Explosion.

{aerodactyl}
Wing Attack
Agility
Fly
Hyper Beam

Great physical sweeper. And I've got to change Wing Attack. But, as before, not sure what.

Ugh, I hate Aerodactyl, because its movepool is terrible in RBY and it's weak to Water. Go with Take Down over Wing Attack, but that's the best you're going to do with it.

I'm open to pretty much any suggestion, so rate away.
I don't have a Psychic type because Psychic can trump Poison and Fighting. Dugtrio can handle the Poison, and Aerodactyl can handle Fighting (now.)

Playing on Yellow 8-)

Image lvl 98

Reflect
Thunderbolt
Thunder Wave
Flash

Totally useless against ground/rock I know. Can't decide what to do though.

Image lvl 73

Razor Leaf
Solar Beam
Cut
Sleep Powder

I'm thinking Body Slam for Solar?

Image lvl 74

Fire Blast
Fly
Earthquake
Strength

Image lvl 75

Surf
Blizzard
Earthquake
Bite

I unfortunately used Ice Beam on my Vaporeon ^^;

Image lvl 92

Ice Punch
Psychic
Hypnosis
Dream Eater

Eater's for healing and back up attack when I'm out of Psychic.

I also need advice on what other pokemon should be on my team, dunno which?

OK, my suggestions are in red.

Reflect

Thunder Wave
Flash

Put it into Stadium, get Surf on it for Reflect, and trade to GSC to eliminate Flash. While you're at it, evolve it.

Image lvl 73

Razor Leaf
Solar Beam
Cut
Sleep Powder

I'm thinking Body Slam for Solar?

Precisely. BS for SB, and I'd consider Toxic over Sleep Powder. Whatever you prefer is fine.

Image lvl 74

Fire Blast
Fly
Earthquake
Strength

Fly and Strength on Charizard? No. Hyper Beam and Take Down.

Image lvl 75

Surf
Blizzard
Earthquake
Bite

I unfortunately used Ice Beam on my Vaporeon ^^;

Then use Vaporeon. It's better than Blastoise anyway. As for this set, Bite isn't all that useful as Blastoise isn't quick enough to attack first and cause flinch. Maybe Double-Edge or Skull Bash instead.

Image lvl 92

Ice Punch
Psychic
Hypnosis
Dream Eater

Eater's for healing and back up attack when I'm out of Psychic.

Hypnosis and Dream Eater are really unreliable. Go with T-Bolt/Explosion, since you can't get Confuse Ray back.

Golem comes to mind, but you could always use a Psychic (Mewtwo, Mew, Alakazam, Hypno, etc.)

*Sticks nose into RBY Team Rating thread*

From what I see, the above members have failed to look at the Standard RBY Moveset guide, available for you. http://www.psypokes.com/dex/psydex/003/movesets/rby , and just flip through (the link I provided was for venusaur's set).

Funerallaughter:
Pikachu should indeed evolve, and have Flash removed. T-bolt, T-wave, Surf/Petal Dance/Mimic (hit rhydon, sandslash, Body Slam/Seismic Toss (Good para chances, thus saving you a turn that would otherwise be used on thunder wave vs. a constant, 100HP Damage dealer).

Vnusaur: Razor Leaf and Sleep Powder are good. Body Slam, because thats the only other damaging move (and the only para move). Last options: Leech Seed forces switches, Swords Dance for body slam (growth is sort of useless, as whenever you Critical (you will 99.6% of the time with razor leaf), it ignores stat boosts.

Charizard: Swords Dance, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Body Slam/Hyper Beam. Body slam paralyzes, while Hyper Beam doesn't make you lose a turn if you ohko. With the amazing speed, he actually uses Fire Spin very well. Rock Slide is a worthwhile GSC tradeback (Ground + Rock has no resistors).

Blastoise: In most cases, it is outclassed by Slowbro, Starmie, Vaporeon and Lapras. Blizzard (and thus, the lack of ice beam) isn't the problem - blizzard in RBY has 90% accuracy. for a blastoise, though, this is as good as you get (well, switch out bite for body slam's greater power).

Gengar: Already said, Hypnosis + Dream eater is bad. T-bolt (mini BlizzBolt has no resists in RBY) , or Explosion is good. Confuse Ray isn't too necessary on a fast special sweeper.

Last pokemon: Have you even read an RBY team building guide? I have. EVERY TEAM MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE PSYCHIC! Understood? Good...With that said, switch out Blastoise for Slowbro (if you can). Jynx would be nice instead of gengar (fast reliable sleeper).

I'm sorry for yelling, but it is important.
Also, for future reference, aside from explosion, Rhydon > Golem.

Wrong board (Venusaur w/ Protect is a giveaway), and seeing as how you have MissingNo., you can pretty much say goodbye to your game and this team anyway... I hope you weren't serious with your post lol.

It gets EQ? I don't think so. Hyper beam instead. Rage is terrible - Agility or Reflect instead. Fire Spin is good with the speed. Dig if you know there are no flyers. Mimic, and you might get blizzard or mega drain.

{mewtwo}
-Phychic-
-ThunderBolt-
-IceBeam-

Amnesia > Flamethrower. T-bolt or Blizzard, not both. Recover > the other. Blizzard is for Eggy, T-bolt for waters (namely slowbro and starmie).

Gold version has been utilized for its TMs

{golem} Golem (lvl 40)

~ Rock Slide
~ Earthquake
~ Dig
~ Self Destruct (soon to be Explosion)

{alakazam} Alakazam (lvl 40)

~ Psychic
~ Thunderpunch
~ Ice Punch
~ Recover

{jolteon} Jolteon (lvl 40)

~ Thunderbolt
~ Bite
~ Pin Missle
~ Sand-Attack

{nidoking} Nidoking (lvl 41)

~ Surf
~ Fire Blast
~ Ice Beam
~ Toxic

{snorlax} Snorlax (lvl 40)

~ Psychic
~ Surf
~ Amnesia
~ Rest

I don't have a real sixth. Any recommendations? Fire, probably, since I don't have one. I would prefer something non-legendary. I try to do stuff without them.

You'll want Body Slam > Dig, if only for paralysis.

{alakazam} Alakazam (lvl 40)

~ Psychic
~ Thunderpunch
~ Ice Punch
~ Recover
Standard

{jolteon} Jolteon (lvl 40)

~ Thunderbolt
~ Bite
~ Pin Missle
~ Sand-Attack
Mimic or double Kick > Sand Attack. Its otherwise very standard. I personally go with agility > Pin Missile for critical thunderbolts (they hurt)

{nidoking} Nidoking (lvl 41)

~ Surf
~ Fire Blast
~ Ice Beam
~ Toxic
Stick with the standard - EQ for STAB, Blizzard because its powerful and covers a whole bunch, thunderbolt because nothing resists blizzbolt. For the last move, Surf can go on to deal with the likes of golem and rhydon. Rock Slide hits birdies and ice types (namely articuno, jynx).

{snorlax} Snorlax (lvl 40)

~ Psychic
~ Surf
~ Amnesia
~ Rest
Sweet, a special wall. This looks cool.

Not fire - thats a horrible type. Most RBY teams have 2 psychics, minimum. Jynx, Slowbro, Exeggutor. either that or Dugtrio or Dodrio.

For Golem, is Body Slam a TM?

For Nidoking, what do "EQ" and "STAB" mean?

For Alakazam and Jolteon, is "standard" a bad thing?

For the additional Psychic, what do you reconmend? Jynx, Slowbrow, or Exeggutor? I've never used any of those guys, so what move sets would you reconmend?

Body Slam is a TM.

EQ = Earthquake
STAB = Same Type attack Bonus. If a move's type is the same as one of the types of a pokemon (earthquake is ground, fire blast is fire), the move's power is increased by 50%

Standard is what it is - everyone uses it. And everyone uses it for a reason - its correct. It gets boring if its standard all of the time, but no, standard isn't bad.

I personally like Exeggutor best, and especially on this team where there is enough blizzard users. anyway - exeggutor should have sleep powder, stun spore, psychic, and explosion. that is the standard set.

thanks

{golem} Golem (lvl 40)

~ Submission
~ Explosion

Use Submission against a tough Normal or Rock. Wear it down until Golem is low on HP from the recoil and use Explosion. Good?

Cut is a terrible move. As is poison powder. Double Powder (sleep powder and stun spore) > both. Razor leaf will always critical, no need to worry.

{raichu} Raichu Lv. 45
ThunderBolt
Body Slam
Thunder Wave
Swift
Surf would have been so nice. Seismic toss > swift - nothing really uses double team or minimize.

{kadabra} Robin Lv. 43
Tri Attack
Psychic
Recover
Psybeam
Pyschic and recover is good. Tri Attack is physical, and psybeam is weak - consider seismic toss, thunderwave, or a punch in there.

{vaporeon} Eve Lv. 46 a normal
Bite
Ice Beam
Surf
Quick Attack
Blizzard is 90% accurate, so might as well use it > ice beam. acid armort > bite, as bite is a normal move (thus it sucks). Growth from NYPC or Mimic (mimic a recover or thunderbolt would be great).

{Ninetales} Tale Lv. 42
Flamethrower
Confuse Ray
Quick Attack
Dig
If you get rid of all of the flyers, then dig is actually okay. However, you'll do better with fire spin - trap, dmage, and destroy. Also, 100 base speed is good enough that you can forgo quick attack for body slam (paralysis and power).

{snorlax} Lax Lv. 41
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Body Slam
Strength
Don't you know HM moves are bad? Hyper beam/sekf destruct > strength.

Thanks. I would've given Venasaur a better moveset, but most of the moves he learns suck, even the TM's (Hates it that most RBY TM's are Normal). The same goes for most of the others.

Well, in retrospect, body slam > leech seed, but in my opinion, you have enough body slammers on your team.
