I'm sorry if this question has been, asked before, but I could'nt find any Psypoke answers. What do you do on Pokemon Silver's time capsule? What is its purpose?

You can trade back pokemon. What do I mean?

1.) Machamp gets Rock Slide.
2.) Poliwrath gets Fissure again, powered up with mind reader.
3.) T-bolt/Ice beam to many pokemon without the use of crystal.
4.) Get the legends, like the trio, mew, and mewtwo.

This is a Silver version question; it belongs in Johto Generation, not Kanto. *moves*

The time capsule's purpose is to link trade with Red/Blue/Yellow. It also stops you from bringing new Pokemon or moves in it, since they didn't exist in RBY.

Time Capsule only works when you get up to Ecruteak, and at first it only works there. The next day all Time Capsules in all Pokecenters will work.
It's used to trade between the Red, Blue, and Yellow versions. But due to how Kanto games link, you have to time when you talk to the Kanto lady (time it so that you will end up saving your Johto and Kanto games at roughly the same time). But since it's RBY, you cannot bring in any Pokemon after Mew (or Eggs), or any moves that did not exist in Kanto.

So what do you mean by "it didn't work"?

On crystal the lady says "Your friend is not ready" and it lets you go and walk around normally, then on yellow it says "The link has been closed because of inactivity. Please contact your friend and come again!" and this keeps happening even though i've tried it loads of times.

Could be something wrong with your link cable on that one.

Well, that would explain everything! You need 2 GBC and a GBC Link Cable. GBA cables don't work for any GBC game. (I have tried at least 10 times with non-Pokemon and Pokemon games alike.)
Additionally, you'll need to time it right so that when the Johto game says "Please wait." after you confirm to go in, the Kanto game says "Please apply here." at the same time, and also make the two games do the little save-noise jingle at the same time too. That method will pretty much always work unless your GBC cable is busted.

That's even worse. Go to EB Games/Gamestop. EBay is the most questionable source on the planet for video game components. They're just hard to find normally, that's all. (I'm still looking for a GBC link cable, since mine is broken.)
