How is Darts not a sport? Do you have any idea how much skill (physical skill) is required to throw a dart accurately and consistently? If Darts isn't a sport, then neither are a host of other accuracy sports, such as Bowling, Archery, and any of the shooting sports.
Poker, of course, isn't a sport. It's a game. Duh.
And I don't really know what snooker is, so I don't have an opinion there.

So Poker? Yeah, if picking up cards is considered physical prowess...
Again, IDK what snooker is, another card game?

But Darts, like racing, requires a suprising amount of physical skill and endurance. I agree with JsXtm here, on all three of the so-called "sports"

Snooker is a type of pool.

Darts, yes, that is a sport.

Poker, no. It's more of a game.

I'd have to say no to all of the three. I've never seen darts played competitively.

That doesn't mean that others don't. I don't play darts, but there are dart competitions, and people play for money.

True. Pool (and Snooker) require good aim, concentration, the correct amount of force, and coordination.

Then what about chess? As in, the moving pieces game? Me and my good friend (who represented his school nationally for the chess championships or whatever) always have a good little debate about whether it is a sport or not. He absolutely in-sists it is a sport, because it helps freshens your mind and stuff, and I absolutely in-sist it isn't, because it results in obesity.

Ok, so we go deeper, pass the obvious generalisations that may or may not be true, and then I say it isn't a sport because it isn't represented in the Olympics. I think I'm pretty safe with that, but then he sticks in "so why is cricket and rugby classified as sports then? Does this mean TABLE TENNIS is a sport?" Yes alright, I see his point there, if table tennis is a sport then we might as well make that foosball thing a sport too.

"Oho! but there's no physical coordination required! therefore it cannot be a sport!" I rebut. I think I've got him now, but then he says "but yes you do need physical endurance, chess matches are long and then if you lose concentration, that's your match gone."

so basically really it's all subjective, depending on what your definition is a sport is. imo darts, poker and snooker are not sports but rather activities, but really why would you care.

Actually it's a pretty big deal over in Britain/Ireland/whatev. It's enough of a sport to be posted on FSN (Fox Sports Network.)

Then again...ESPN shows the National Spelling Bee, so that makes that a sport... >.>

Poker- no
Snooker-yes
Darts-yes

but darts and snooker are techincally realy sports, but they not considered as sports that much because it takes less athletic prowess than soccer or baseball.
Killer, how does darts require endurance? its not that tiring to chuck darts at a wall.

Any game that requires any amount of physical activity as apart of the strategy to win, whether out of prowess or skill, is considered a sport. To play games of cards or board games such as chess are not sports because one's ability to win is independent of how one physically moves cards or pieces. While darts or billiards may be less physically demanding than common sports found in the Olympics, they still require skill in physical activity to win a match, therefore making it a sport.

I would agree that poker is not a sport. Darts I guess is in a grey area & Snooker or Pool, I would say is a sport. Poker is a game of luck & lying, darts does take skill but throwing darts at a wall doesn't take that much endurance. Snooker takes skill, concentration & good judgement on how much strength to apply to a shot, angle & so forth.

I have never heard of Snooker before this so I can't really put my opinion in of that, but Darts and Poker are both on TSN (In Canada atleast) which is a sports channel, technically making them sports. But actually, I would personally say that darts is a sport because it takes a physical ability, but poker is all mental ability, and the most physical work at a game of poker is done by the dealer, when he/she shuffles and hands out the cards.
So,
Darts = Yes
Poker = No
Snookers = Hunh?

Yep, like Pool but played professionally and much harder - the length, (longer side), of a Pool table is the width of a Snooker table and the actual length of a Snooker table must be double the size of a Pool tables length.
I love Snooker, (I don't know why); I can't believe what seems like the majority of people on here haven't heard of it.

Again, what Eon said. It isn't simple to be skillful at Snooker, although the rules aren't hard to follow.

^ My favourite Snooker player getting the record for the quickest time making the maximum break of 147.

I consider Snooker and Darts sports but not Poker.

Poker=no
Snooker/pool=?
Darts=?
Chess=no

As DatVu said, in chess and poker and such your physical ability does not matter. You can play either with no arms or legs. While Darts, Pool and shooting sports do require physical hand-eye coordination and practice....So do video games (:o). So are video games sports? (lol)

Actually, anything that requires physical activity and played under certain rules are sports. Chess and poker aren't sports, but table tennis, snooker, darts and shooting are.

well according to the dictionary definition of sport:
Quote:
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

technically speaking all three are sports.

I don't consider card games "sports" though.
