The one I'm using is 2.2.15, but I think 2.4 is being released soon.

In retrospect, I doubt it's something to do with your version. Try again, but don't run too many programs at the same time.

I've just started using GIMP to make sigs and I don't really get the Layers. When you make more then one layer and you save it do they all come together. Or is there a way to see what the separate layers look like together I don't really understand. :?

For most filetypes, you have to compress the layers into a single one. .xcf is the exception; it's a "Work-in-Progress" file, if you will. It saves layers and everything, and doesn't mess with anything.

The way to see what the layers will look like together is simple - what you see on the screen is what will appear on the saved image (barring compression marks made by .gif and .jpg).

I'd like to say if you must get your image off firefox, right click and save the image instead.

the latest gimp version is gimp 2.6.1

I have a question that I think is related... HOW can I imput the little pokemon pictures that everyone is using? For example, a little image of chikorita for the "requests" forum? Thanks

i saw what you said about using internet explorer to get the white background when you copy and paste things like sprites, and i have IE just for that, my regular browser is Google Chrome, and it used to do that, but it started having a black background again. so now the only way to do this is to save and open sprites which is such a chore. and quite a few of the DPP sprites and pretty much ALL the trainer sprites have this problem where part of their body has black in it so it erases lines and borders to them. help?

umm, another question (and i figured that last one out, i just have a big picture saved of all the trainers and pokemon and copy and paste which one i want). anyways, i've been trying to play with bigger pictures, but they all have this god awful white spots all around them. and theyre all different shades of white, slightly different so you can't just use the eraser trick on it. and with those pictures its so difficult to erase around them. hopefully someone knows what i mean, and you can help.
here's a picture of what i mean. i try to put this nice BIG picture of empoleon to make a fancy sig or something and when i try to put him infront of the background, THIS HAPPENS.

I don't know if this should go here, but it's basic anyhow. You need something that can unzip files first, WinZIP'll do fine. Just go to DaFont.com, and pick a font you like. Hit the "download" button, and wait for it to download. After that, right click on the zipped file and selecrt "extract to...", or something similar, before unzipping it into C:WINDOWSFonts. Now you just have to start GIMP, and the font sould be there. Good luck :D

Okay, i know this was posted a while ago, but it brought up something i have a question about. i know how to unzip files and extract them, but where can you get a free copy of WINzip or something similar? cause i have to pay to get a full version, and i already used my trial a long time ago.

Can you splice with GIMP, or no?
