I still don't get it. It because she's black isn't it?! What's really so bad about that? Go figure................

You are correct. Holiday Hi-Jynx was banned due to some people having a problem with Jynx being a "racial stereotype" and since Jynx was the main pokemon in the episode, it was decided that it would not air.

Even though it's only the last two parts, you can still view it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvQ3C7tqnsM

I watched it a couple of months ago when the first part was up, and IMO, it's a great episode.

Huh? I thought it never aired in the first place... Hence the title "banned episode"... I personally think that that was a perfectly fine episode to air. If we have "white" pokemon they aren't forced to be recolored or anything. That's not meant to offend, it just makes sense.

Oprah had absolultely NOTHING to do with this.

A woman named Carole Weatherford watched her son messing around with pokemon (don't know if it was the show or TCG or games, or what) and she saw Jynx. She got offended, because quite frankly, I can see why someone would be offended by that, and she complained. She is a perfectly intelligent, assertive woman, and had every right to be upset.

And it's not just the black skin, it's also the full lips.

it's not just the skin or the lips. It's also the fact that they named it Jynx. It's offensevie because in africa alot of females were known to use voodoo and stuff like that which could be called jynxes.

Except for the fact that Jynx is not a racial stereotype, nor is she black. She's based on the Ganguro style, which is make up and clothing, not race. Carole had no right to get upset about it. If she's half as intelligent as you claim her to be she would have done her research first.

Everything up/down to "Carole" is correct.

Okay, this thread is going to get locked after my post, because it's really just getting stupid.

I really doubt any of you posting in this thread have any real idea what "blackface" is. Blackface is NOT just having a blackface, but it is an extremely racist shame to African-Americans.

Jynx is one of my favorite pokemon, but I always wondered what blackface REALLY was, so I asked my dad a few weeks ago. This is what he told me about it:

Pelli's Dad wrote:

Blackface was a form of racist entertainment earlier on. White entertainers and comedians would do stage shows and paint their skin actual-black and pretend to be of African descent.

From this, a whole bunch of bullcock stereotypes were born. From blacks being violent, to every black man's dream in life to having s-ex with a white woman, and even to the idea that all blacks are stupid chicken-stealing creatures.

From these stereotypes, worse things happened to blacks. If a black man simply whistled at a white woman for looking good, he'd get lynched. A full-grown black man would have to refer to a silly little white 4-year-old as sir. And even today, a few years back I played Trivial Pursuit with some friends of mine and this white woman was just flat-out shocked that I knew any of the answers, even more that I knew a good portion of them.

That's what I learned from my father, who is an extremely intelligent man and nobody can tell me different, and even then, nobody tries after meeting him. :|

Blackface Wikipedia article for those of you still confused.

And lastly, no, Jynx is not SUPPOSED to be black face, but she looks a hell of a lot like it. Anybody who doesn't know anything about pokemon but anything about blackface can look at Jynx's old version and be offended. In fact, after I had this conversation with my daad, I became offended by Jynx's old version. So yeah, she could've done her research and found out that Jynx isn't racist, but it wouldn't've made that much of a difference.

Remember 9/11? I'm sure you've heard some stories of tv shows/movies/etc. that had to be edited because they had scenes reminiscent of 9/11 that were in development before the incident, but had to be taken out later? Yeah, those werent' SUPPOSED to be reminscent of 9/11, but they were still taken out. In fact, some of these scenes were purely comical. But it REMINDED people of the horror that was September 11th, and is such purely in bad taste. Just like anybody who knows what the hell blackface will know that Jynx and Mr. Popo are in bad taste, too.

So in short, racism pisses me off and blackface is no exception.

Topic locked for stupidity and question answered.
