I know the Wii is out and Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out, but is the Gamecube worth buying just for Super Smash Bros. Melee? They're only $50 around where I live.

It depends how long it takes you to save money. The gamecube and game probably costs $90, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out Dec. 3rd. The Wii and game costs probably $350 combined. So as long as you can save money fast. Go for both.

wii is only 250, at least it is here.
the game will only be 50$ at most, so that adds up to 300 without an extra controller for a friend

What if there wasn't a Wii or Brawl, that's what I'm getting at.

I bought a GameCube before the Wii came out two years ago. I bought it used, because I didn't see the point in buying a new one. The only games I have for it are Pokemon Colosseum (kill it with fire), Mario Sunshine (boring) and Super Smash Bros. Melee (awesome game is awesome.)
So if you don't care about the 7th generation consoles and want to buy a GameCube for just SSBM, I say it's worth it.

I have a gamecube too, a silver one, apparently it's limited edition but iirc they still sell them. I got it god-knows-how-long ago, probably in 2004, for 100 bucks. Not -too- expensive, compared to around 250 for the Wii here. The games I have are...
- Animal Crossing (<3, but I always forget to play it and then my town is weed city)
- SSBM (Meeeeeh, I love this game, but my sister probably loves it more. Roy/Yoshi ftw D;)
- Pokemon Colosseum (:D)
- Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire (This game's adventure mode fails. But at least I have a place to store all my R/S crap. `.`)
- Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 1&3 (Boring games are boooooooooring)
- Kirby Airride (This game is fun, but it doesn't work right anymore.)
- The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker (lol I'm still stuck in the fortress thing)
- Some Bratz game (For my sister one Christmas)
- Madagascar (lawl)
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (I'm stuck in that tree with all the annoying gray things following you around.)
I would recommend buying a GC for SSBM.

I definetely recommend:
SSBM (duh)
Animal Crossing (if you don't have it for the DS)
Fire Emblem
Paper Mario: the TYD
Colloseum and XD are only ok,
LoZ: WW
And by the way, pokemon box had an adventure mode!?!?!?

My older brother got a Gamcube at the Christmas of 05. We got our Wii one week after launch day.
GC Games:
SSBM(First Game we got with the GC don't play it much as I have EVERYTHING and our second controller doesn't work at all)
Pokemon XD(My let me have it)
Megaman Network Transmission( This belongs to my little brother)
Megaman X Collection (My older brother bought this we beat every single game)
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle ( We play this game a lot)
Zelda Four Swords adventures( Belongs to my little brother)
RE4 (My older Brother's game)
Metroid Prime (My brother forced me to buy it for him so that he could get this and RE4)
Wii Games:
Wii Sports (Duh)
Zelda Twilight Princess
Super Paper Mario (Borrowing)
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaich 2 (Borrowing.
Sonic and the Secret Rings ( I can't believe I left this out)
I suggest you get Wii though gamer guy. Wii can also play GC Games on it too. Also Brawl comes out December 3 while Mario Galaxy comes out November 12th.

Yeah, it did. You could play Ruby or Sapphire on your TV. But it failed. D:

I personally think it depends on two things. One do you have other consoles and games. If you have a ton of games for other consoles I wouldn't recomend it. Two, Do you have a Job/allowance/other consistent way of earning monney. If not I wouldn't spend any monney on a last gen console.
However if you do get a gamcube I would get more games than just ssmb. Here are some suggestions:
Animal Crossing: A sims like game that will last you a long time
Tales of Symphonia: In my oppion the best rpg for gamecube with two whole discs and 4 player.
Mario Super Star Baseball: A fun arcade style baseball game with great multiplayer.

Okay, I do have a Gamecube and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I wasn't asking so I could know if I should buy one. I had other games, but sold them. I kept Smash Bros..
Pokemaniac, I want to get a Wii, really bad, but I have no money. I do not plan on getting money any time soon. I do not work for I am not old enough and I don't get an allowance because my parents don't make enough money. My mom is not able to work and doesn't draw disability and my dad lost his job a couple a months ago and hasn't been working at his new job long enough to get insurance. What money we have leftover from bills and groceries and other things we need, we use on my mom's expensive medicine.
I know you guys don't care about my personal life, but to many people keep telling me to get a Wii. Hopefully, this will clear things up.
