Fire has always been my favorite element, even before I got into pokemon. As a result I always take the fire type starter. Not because I hate the other two, fire is just the type for me. Unfortunatly, this trend will cease in D/P because I severly dislike the new fire starter...even if he is fire type he just seems off. His final form is a rip off of Blaziken IMO (whom I love to use... as my avy indicates) and made blaziken's type pairing less special. I also view him as a mockery to the otherwise incredible fire type starters.
Getting back to topic, I choose cyndaquil not because he made the game the easiest... or anything like that, but I just love fire types. In the first three Gens, I think all of the starters are great and worth while for any trainer, but I personaly just favor fire.

I always choose the fire starter. Typhlosion is my favorite pokemon, easily, so obviously I chose cyndaquil.

Cyndaquil, because Typhlosion is, in my opinion, the coolest pokemon there. He brings back memories of when I picked him when I was like, seven. I love that guy. It's a great pokemon.

Does anyone choose the starter that is the same type as the legendary on the boxart? for instance: Gold-Cyndiquil, Crystal-Totodile, and Silver-Chikorita.
I know that Lugia is no grass type but it's my only chance to play as chikorita if I stay true to my system.
To Elemental trainer: Great picture of Donphan! I must get it, 'cause, well I'm Phanpyfan and I like elephant based pokemon.

Why does everyone like the fire starters???
I personally like the water starters, and picked totdile.
Seriously, the water pokemon will beat the gym leaders much easier (especially once surf is learned)

i like all three of them but normally i would choose totadile just because he was the first 1 i ever picked and i got him up to lv 83 till i restarted. i could beet the e4 with feraligatr lv 83 and an alakazam lv 100 (sigh) the good ol days
but then there is cyndiquil who looks friggen awsome as typhlosion
thats who i got right now
but rarely do i pick chickorita because of the type disadvantage in the first gym and ive never even played long enough to kno how good it is in its final evolution 1{feraligatr} 2{typhlosion} 3

T-T Aww, it's sad that everyone wants . I love fire-types, but I never liked him. Couldn't ever win with him... I personally like , because she's hardest to train. I like a challenge... plus, she's really cute. I mean, c'mon! Look at that necklace!!

chickorita, after loving bulbasaur in RBY, it was an obvious choice. and a nice challenge for disadvantage in first two gyms.

Chikorita; it's appearance is very calm and pleasing to the eyes.

I chose , but if I had to make the choice again (which I did on my gold version) I'd go with . I just like Cyndaquil better, much cuter.

Other than Tyranitar (he's such a beast), my favorite Johto pokemon has to be Typhlosion. He was my first starter, and he shall forever be my starter. No other water starter can beat Blastoise. I mean, who doesn't like a 6 foot tortoise with canons on its back that can shoot water? Still, Typhlosion rules. And pokemon needs to have a powerful, exclusive move for Typhlosion as for what the pokedex alludes to when they describe a "secret, devastating move." Then Typhlosion would be unstoppable!

Cyndaquil the first time, just for the heck of it, and then ever subsequent time because there are NO good fire types early on in the game in crystal.

I chose Totodile cuz at that point I always (and probably still would) choose the waters types. PLus, when it evolves to Feraligatr, it learns Slash, my favorite old school move.
