In Pokemon Diamond, I was casually trying to catch a Pokemon out of a swarm (a Dunsparce) on route 208, and so I used a Ditto to try to catch it, but then I killed it, fought another battle, but to my surprise, the Ditto didn't know Transform, but had the same moveset as the Dunsparce I had just fought but it was still a Ditto. I don't know if it works on Pearl, too, but here were the conditions:
It was at Level 30 before the battle. (probably irrelevant)
It leveled up after the Battle.
I switched it out.
It transformed before the switchout.
It had paralysis before I switched it out. (possibly relevant, because Ditto is immune to paralysis)
The Ditto was not shiny. (possibly irrelevant)
It had a Docile nature. (probably irrelevant)
Anyone have a shiny Ditto with a different nature and level to test this on?

Probably just a one-time glitch, I doubt it can be triggered.

Actually, it is not a glitch. Ditto keeps the moveset for good. You need a new Ditto.

Both of you had a Cyndaquil?
Did either of you have the moltres?

Bad glitch then... at least, for the loss of the moltres. But since there's no way to tell what the conditions were surrounding the cyndaquil being the one cloned...

Actually, it keeps the moveset until it get's healed at a Pokemon Center or faints. This moveset can be bred, so breeding for Egg Moves is MUCH easier in D/P.
Also, this is NOT a glitch. It is an intentional thing, like the Flame Body / Magma Armor halving the number of steps to hatch an egg.

Hmm... so a Ditto can pass on a moveset if it's acting as the father?

Mmmyep.
Well, if the moves desired are inheritable by the mother's first stage, but that should be obvious, no?

Whoa, wait what?
This seems not possible. I'm going to test this in a few when I go on break...
Edit: So far, this doesn't seem to be true. I tested in on a double trainer battle and turned my Ditto into a Lotad (with Leech Seed to test egg moves). I tried both beating the battle with the Ditto and swapping it out. Both times after the battle, it went back to having Transform.
I'll try it with a wild battle in a few hours. I'm at work right now and can only play on my breaks. :/

This glitch worked in the Japanese version, it was supposed to have been removed.

There is a item duplicating glitch that was in the Japanese version that has been fixed.

That glitch was also present, yes.

After testing, I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with your Ditto.
After both a trainer and a wild battle, my Ditto had Transform. I tried both killing the pokémon in question with the Ditto and swapping him out to another pokémon. Both times, it had Transform at the end of the battle.
After Transforming each time, my Ditto still had Limber, so it could not be paralyzed. If your Ditto was paralyzed, it probably doesn't have Limber, and isn't a legit Ditto.
Did you get it over the GTS or anything? Chances are that Ditto is hacked.

It was an ordinary Ditto that I used the pokeradar to find.
Did the Ditto level up?
BTW: I transformed and used a couple moves first. After you transform, you copy abilities, too. So then the Dunsparce clone got paralyzed. After the battle, the paralysis was automatically healed, but the Ditto had the Dunsparce's moveset instead of transform.
Lone--Wanderer wrote: Actually, it keeps the moveset until it gets healed at a Pokemon Center or faints.
No, I healed it and put it into the PC, took it out, and it still had the same moveset as the Dunsparce. I could try killing it, but something tells me that won't work either. I caught a new Ditto anyway. I'm keeping the old one as a novelty.
Hmmm... I wonder if the Ditto could re-learn transform from the move tutor. I have some heart scales.
I'm convinced that it is key to level up the Ditto.
...Maybe it will only work if your longest pokeradar chain is with Dittos.

People. THIS IS NOT A GLITCH. It's SUPPOSED to happen, and I wasn't sure about the moveset loss thing, but I know that, somehow, it can lose the moveset. People who "proved me wrong", you switched out. So it lost the moveset and transformed status.
Why is this so hard to understand? I know it's not a glitch, and I've had multiple sources who said it worked when the Ditto was NOT switched out [hint hint] and that the moveset was breedable. Can't remember how it loses the moveset after this, but it does.

I'd really like to see your sources. I'll take your word for it for now, but...
The moveset is normally lost after battle and switchout, but in this case it wasn't. My Ditto knows rage and some other moves instead of transform after the battle and healing! I'll try killing it, though. EDIT: Nope! It still has the moveset.
Perhaps it only works with copies obtained before June 1...

I tried in both trainer battles and wild battles with both switching out and beating the pokémon I was fighting with the Ditto.
After EVERY battle, it went back to Transform.
If this was something built into the game, there would be information on it like crazy and people would be USING it.
If you're absolutly sure this is possible, you need to cite a source.
As far as Beefster's Ditto, that's totally crazy. You can't switch the order of attacks during battle anymore, so that couldn't have caused it (even though that was fixed in the second generation). You should do some more tests with it. Can it pass on any of the moves? Maybe it'll breed with another Ditto?
I'll try this out on my day off, try and recreate what you did. Radar, level up, whatnot. Maybe you just got the wrong combo of things going on and the game freaked out.
Are you using a US copy of the game, or another language?

I make it faint while it is battling it but nothing doing. I try breeding it with an abomasnow to test it but the snover dosent have energy ball. On a related note, anyone ever see anyone in the game use stealth rock? I plan on sketching it with my smeargle if yall see one or using this ditto trick if it works. Please, this question has been haunting me for the last 4 weeks.
