i would probably choose water, as you can get away with empoleon.

dragon woud also be good, as they are normally powerfull, and have more than 1 type.

it really all depends on yourself

My recommendations for dual types:

Houndoom
Blaziken/Infernape (overused or not, they are very good)
Camerupt
Charizard

My recommendations for non-dual types:

Typhlosion
Arcanine
Magmortar

Unfortunately, there just aren't that many fire types period, let alone GOOD ones... :\

Steel
Flying
Ground
Fighting
Rock
Psychic

- If you were to have any mono teams, these types would be the ones I would recommend using. I would recommend Steel the most, because there are now many Steel dual types. For example:

Empoleon (Water/Steel)
Heatran (Fire/Steel)
Skarmory (Steel/Flying)
Lucario (Steel/Fighting)
Metagross Or Bronzong (Steel/Psychic)
Bastiodon (Steel/Rock)

- With the six above pokemon, you have a surprisingly diverse team with lots of different options. Also, there isn't one main weakness (ex: Fighting would be at risk to flying types). But, this team needs to watch out for Fighting, Ground, and Fire types. Other than that, it definitely works.

Other options: Aggron (Steel/Rock), Steelix (Steel/Ground).

Didn't see this until just now:

Are you kidding me? Houndoom can learn Flamethrower, which is probably the universally BEST special fire-type move in the game. It's the fire-type Surf, basically (ignoring the whole thing where Surf hits all opponents in Double battles, of course). I could think of several different strategies that could incorporate a fire-type STAB opportunity with Houndoom.

Dude go Ground, there is a thread about a ground only team, and I made one.

I used a...

Camerupt
Garchomp
Mamoswine
Dugtrio
Rypherior
Gastrodon

You might want to sub Gastrodon for Marshtomp, but this was a pretty good build I think

Why is there a notion that Heat Wave is better than Flamethrower? They're almost exactly the same, in fact, I would take Flamethrower over Heat Wave. Let's compare Heat Wave vs. Flamethrower...

BD: 100 vs. 95 (almost EXACTLY the same)
Accuracy: 90 vs. 100 (you'll need that 100, trust me)
PP: 10 vs. 15

100 BD with 90% accuracy, x10 PP (we'll say it hit 9 out of 10 times), with STAB = 1350
95 BD with 100% accuracy, x15 PP, with STAB = 2145 total damage

...so honestly, you're better off with Flamethrower. Top that off with Dark Pulse, Nasty Plot, and a wild card like Sludge Bomb, and you have a very formidable special sweeper.

^Sweeper = a fast pokemon whose main objective is to go in and attack. A very offensive pokemon, in short.

My steel team is on my sig.
Mawile is basically just my baton passer because otherwise i would just be replicating other pokes.

Trust me, its quite hard. Whichever you choose, there will always be one type that will give you grief. With steel its Fire & fighting (even with Empoleon & Metagross)

i like the look of a ground team. I enjoyed the thread about it.

If you wanna go with fire, go for it. Just rely on bolt or t/punch on a magmortar or something for water types. Use blaziken/infernape for ground & rocks.

Using the duel fire types (Zard, Houndoom, Camerupt and Blaziken/infernape) you will also have STAB offensive capabilities against fighting, Ghost, Psychic, Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, Dark & Normal that you wouldnt have with fire alone.

You could even throw Marcargo in for STAB against flying and still have space left for a "favourite". But Id suggest something that learns a strong Electric move.

That way, counting Fires STAB against Bug, Grass, Ice and Steel, You would have STAB offenses against 14 of the 17 types.

Just need cover for Water, Ground & Dragon

Like what he said heres an example of what I think would be good:
Empoleon, Swampert, Kingdra, Lanturn,
Ludiculo, Gyarados, Starmie, Slowking,
Poliwrath and Tentacruel are some good dual types.
