Some topic in Sinnoh Discussion led me to start this thread.

Suppose you got offered a Gym Leader position from the Pokemon League for expertise in the handling of Pokemon in battle. Would you take that offer, and if so, what would you specialize in? No Legendaries.

Note that you don't necessarily have to stick to an element type if you were a Gym Leader... You could have a team theme based on something other than type; an example would be Steven from Ruby and Sapphire-- his team was diverse in type but his team had a theme. His theme was mineral-based.

I'll start, of course. I'd open a Gym and fight with Magneton, Jynx, Porygon2 and Porygon-Z, and my theme would be Technology. (The Jynx is in there because it looks like a human and its habitat is "urban".) The TM I'd give to those who beat me would be TM67-Recycle. I'd probably open the Gym in Kanto next to Erika's Gym, so A) players could choose which they'd rather take on-- nature or civilization, and B) I could go visit Erika next door during my break and we could talk and drink orange juice. :3

Anyone else like to go next?

Of course I would take that offer! My speciality would be tactics and intelligence. Everyone would fight in 2-2 battle style and have six pokemon.

The gym would be a test of attrition. When you enter, the doors seal and can only be reopened by the gym leader, and then only when you beat him. The challenger would be dropped into a giant labyrinth on entering, which would be pitch black and filled to the bone with trainers, traps which damage a random pokemon or teleport you, and an occasional torch. You can plant these torches on the ground to light up a 3-3 square in the maze.

You will also be ambushed by dark and ghost types while down there. Also, if you enter the labyrinth again for some reason, the trainers will rechallenge you and the traps will reset.

Once you get out of the maze, the real challenge begins. The floor stirs up a random weather condition when a battle starts. There are more traps up here, you will be constantly challenged by tough trainers, and you have to take an array of elevators, slide pads, teleporters, levitation pods, and jump springs to get to the gym leader.

The trainers use pokemon that work well in combos. Plusie and Minun, for example. They also have a fast fire/water pokemon cast their weather move, then have the second strike for massive damage. Any combo you can think of, it's here. All the trainers and the gym leader use EVs, natures, and items to maximum advantage. The trainers' pokemon will be of equal level to your highest pokemon, or level 50, depending on which one is higher. The gym leader goes by the same rules, except all his pokemon receive a +10 level modifier.

I suppose my Gym would be based on speed, but not from me. The opponent must be fast and extremely powerful if s/he wishes to end the battle with haste. While my ideas for a Gym layout are blank as of yet [other than the fact that no items are allowed to be used by either party], my Pokemon line-up would most likely be [in order of sending out]:

1. Bronzong

2. Shuckle

3. Blissey

4. Wobbuffet

All Pokemon minus Wobbuffet would know status-changing moves, defense-raising moves and an attack or two to whittle away at your HP with. Wobbuffet would likely be switched in upon using Toxic [known by Shuckle, along with Rest] on the challenger's Pokemon, to prevent switches, when I would bide my time and reflect everything delt at Wobbuffet. Destiny Bond stuff I can't survive no matter what, but only as a last resort. Everything else is to tank away until the opponent is left with nothing but Struggle, which I can Counter back or let Shuckle absorb until the opponent faints.

My badge name would be the Patience Badge [designed off of a pocket watch], for obvious reasons, and my reward TM58, Endure.

I like both of these ideas. A lot. Though Stevens seems **bordering** godmodding... =P No problem, however, they are creative and well thought-out. ^^

Anyone else?

id have something like stevens idea and the idea they used for the bug gym leader in sinnoh where you have to find the trainers and beat thyem to collect peices of a lock code. there would be six trainers all with dark, ghost, and possibly Psychic type pokemon that have high special attack and Speed such as gengar. As gym leader i would have a roster of 6 probably Gengar at least but i'm not wuite sure yet.

I would have to take the grass type, I would use the Energy ball TM and both players would take 6 pokemon. I would have:
Torterra
{tropius}
{ludicolo}
{cacturne}
{exeggutor}
{venusaur}
It would always be a double battle, as for the gym layout and location, I'm thinking Slateport, and on entry the trainer is forced to water plants in order to close routes blocked by plants in order to open others, all the while being ambushed by gym trainers hiding in plants.

Perhaps it would be fun to have a baby Pokémon gym. All the Pokémon I'd have would be baby form and you can only fight me with baby form Pokémon. They wouldn't nessicarily be level 1 or 5 though, just baby forms. I'd give out TM 44 (Rest), so all your babies can take a nap.

I didn't really think up any sort of team though. Maybe in the future I'll train up a team of babies. :3

Well considerring my name is Lightning and my favorite type is Electric I suppose I have little choice but to open up an Electic-type gym! :)

My gym would be in a power plant. There gym would be in the basement (only accessable through a secret entrance naturally) and there would be three locked segments, each with a trainer inside. The trainer wishing to challenge me must bring along one electric-type pokemon. When they beat the trainer in each segment, their Electric-type pokemon is allowed to unlock the door. But stock up on potions cause if you exit the gym, the challenge starts over.

I would hold single battles. Electric teams are really hard to put together cause there are so few Electric types, and ever fewer Dual-types. It Might look something like this.

{jolteon}
{magneton}
{lanturn}
{luxio}
Rotom

If you beat me, your reward would be (what else?) the Lightning Badge and TM25 -Thunder. Beating me would aslo allow you to use HM03 - Surf outside of battle. (get it? electric-type...conquerring water...surf?)

Kinda lame I know, but, hey, I got a kick out of it. Has anyone thought of an all Eevee-lution gym yet?

One Dragon type could wipe out every pokemon in the party. If you're going to be the 8th gym, try making your team more versatile. :)

I would either have a double-type pokémon gym, or an entertainment gym. the double type gym would be as follows:

the layout would be an E4 style, where you had to beat a room to progress. all the rooms would be full of wild level 100 2-type pokémon instead of gym trainers, and you would be able to catch the pokémon. you would have to leave all your pokémon upon entering, and be given a lvl 100 2-type pokémon at the start. HOWEVER, you will have to return all the pokémon you caught, and the one that you were given at the end. You would have to beat/catch 4 pokémon in each room, and at the end of each room you would be given the option to heal your pokémon. after 5 rooms, they would come to the gym leader, Zwei. for those of you who don't know, zwei means two in some language, but I forgot which one. my team would be as follows:

{swampert} {drifblim} {gallade} {wormadam-steel} {cacturne}

and the TM would be hidden power, because it can be any type!

edit:

For my entertainment gym, it would just be a big maze for each room, and at the end of each maze, there would be a riddle/puzzle/random question. If you answered them right, you moved on to the next room. If you answered them wrong, you had to fight a trainer with a pokémon that is related to entertainment, then start the room over. The leader would be Ecnad, (dance backwards) and his team would be:

{kirlia} (dances)
{gardevoir} (dances)
{jynx} (dances)
{mr. mime} (mimes)
{gallade} (dances)
{wigglytuff} (sings)

the TM would be encore, for obvious reasons

I dunno, sounds good. maybe they would be better for a battle frontier, though. oh, and by the way, justdd's gym is a yellow gym!

{mawile}
{wormadam-ground}
{ampharos}

Guess the connection?

Mine would be the last gym and really test the tranner to the max.

Also like emerald you could rechalenge this gym

because im nice: a healing spot at the end of each room
the rooms would be.

all normal room
fire room
water room
thunder room
psychic room
dark room
leader

And I would have

{eevee} lv 40
shadow ball
toxic
double edge
iron tail

{flareon} lv 43
flamethrower
fire fang
shadow ball
sunny day

{vaporeon} lv 43

{jolteon} lv 43

rain dance
shadow ball
thunder fang

{espeon} lv 45
psychic
shadow ball
morning sun
double edge

{umbreon} lv 45
shadow ball
faint attack
hyper beam
rest

second time

{eevee} lv 55
shadow ball
return (full power)
double edge
toxic

{flareon} lv57
shadow ball
flamethrower
fire fang
return

{vaporeon} lv 57
surf
ice beam
shadow ball
hydro pump

{jolteon} lv 57
thunder
raindance
thunder fang
shadow ball

{espeon} lv 60
psychic
return full power
morning sun
shadow ball

{umbreon} lv 60

I love eevee-masters idea but in my opinion when you get to the gym leader instead of having eevee you should have a leafeon to get the plant type moves in there and when you beat the leader he gives you an eevee. that would be cool haha, well in my opinion

I'd be the eigth gym leader, and I'd specilize around steel types.
Empoleon
{aggron}
magnezone
Ultimate pokemon:
{metagross}

If I set up a gym like that, It would be rare that someone gets to the elite four!

I'd have a Ghost/Dark themed gym. I dunno where it would be, though.

I'd use Umbreon, Gengar, Mismiagus, and someone else, I can't really think right now.

I would create a physical attribute gym, based mainly on the Attack and Defense stats. The gym would be simple, placed on one of the Sevii Islands (maybe 5 or 6 Isle), and would have no trainers inside, save for the leader. Only catch is that the leader only appears on five days of the week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) and only from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. These would be the pokemon

{blastoise} (male)
Ability: Torrent
Held Item: Muscle Band
Attacks: Aqua Tail, Iron Tail, Rapid Spin, Skull Bash

{steelix} (male)
Ability: Rock Head
Held Item: Leftovers
Attacks: Crunch, Double-edge, Screech, Stone Edge

{kabutops} (male)
Ability: Battle Armor
Held Item: Scope Lens
Attacks: Aqua Jet, Metal Sound, Night Slash, Slash

Winning gets you the Perserverance badge. No TM prizes here, though. I haven't decided on the levels yet, either, but they would be high (60+, considering you need to beat the Elite Four on LG/FR before being able to go the other islands).

Wobbufett would faint by Crunch, Stevens.
Kodokami: Some of those are Special...

MY BADGE WOULD BE THE SAVIOR BADGE! :mrgreen:

EDIT: My setup would be like a maze of Sudowoodo and Bonsly on the first floor, shadowed patches where Onix and Steelix drop down on the second floor, and lakes where Milotic, Feebas and Gyrados are found on the third floor.
Like all wild battles, these can be caught.

It's super effective, yes, but with super high HP he'll survive it and counter the Steelix out. Unless you have him screech three times and then crunch.

But the gym sounds cool. What would be really interesting is like what they did at Norman's gym, you have several different paths a trainer can take, each with it's own unique challenges.

Hmm.. My own gym would be like a rival battle, multiple types.. And there would be a HUGE floor, and if you step on some tile, you get poisoned or paralyzed or something, all status problems, Once you get all the way, there will be some stairs, and you go up, and there will be another room, just smaller, If you go out, The tiles will change.

Team: Gardevoir, Umbreon and Espeon, Ok, Ok, It would be a blend of dark/phychic, But it would be kewl, though.

Steve, no matter how many times it shrieked, it wouldn't matter. Crunch is a Special Attack. And I've OHKO'ed a Wobbufett with Bite.
{gallade} rules in my gym :D
