ok, well I've seen a lot about adding another type. Do you think any types should be dropped? if so, which one(s)?

An interesting question. I'm not sure about dropping any types, but maybe bug, because it's generally useless.

I've got not problems with any of the types that exist now. I would hope they don't add anymore though. It would be nice if they beefed up some of the lesser used types though (like bug).

It would be cool to see a new type, but what is there really left. But I also agree that some of the lesser types should be given a better advantage, it would be interesting to hear some types that people have been thinking of, possibly something like lunar and solar where there powers are weaker when they are opposite and stronger when they are the same. I personaly play almost always at night so lunar would be sick.

Thing is, we need all the types regardless how much they suck.
If we got rid of bug, that would make psychic and dark much stronger.
If we got rid of any type, it would result in a variety of other types becoming stronger or weaker, completely upsetting the balance of the game.

Too bad the game isn't balanced. Yes, every type has weaknesses and resistances, but the scope of each is most certainly NOT equal, and it shows in battle. There are types that are used much more frequently than others due to their weaknesses being much less of a problem than others' weaknesses. Take, for example, Water and Poison, which are the most extreme examples I can think of.
Water has only two weaknesses (Electric and Grass) and one of them, Grass, barely even counts because Grass moves are inferior, Grass Pokemon are generally slow, and EVERY DAMN WATER POKEMON IN THE GAME LEARNS ICE BEAM. Water also hits a bunch of types for super-effective damage - Fire, Ground, Rock - and has the added bonus of neutral damage against Steel. Water also usefully resists Ice and other Water moves when Surf/Ice Beam are staples.
Poison, on the other hand, hits only ONE type out of SEVENTEEN for super effective damage: Grass, an uncommon type that has many members who are half Poison themselves. Poison also hits a bunch of types for reduced damage: Ground, Rock, Ghost and Poison, in addition to dealing no damage at all to Steel. On the other hand, Poison is weak to Ground (Earthquake could possibly be the most overused move in the game) and Psychic.
Poison would be the easiest type in the game to remove since it's so nerfed to begin with. If Nintendo/Gamefreak had any sort of common sense, Poison would be strong against Water. This, in turn, would make Poison suck far less while making Water much less godly.

Hmm.... You got a point there. But you know what really amazes me? That Fire isn't super effective against Water. Honestly, Water evaporates when hit by fire. How retarded are these Nintendo people?

thats EXACTLEE why fire departments use water to put out fires! because water evaporates! OF COURSE!
I think they should get rid of rock, then take it and fuse it with ground. What is rock but a piece of ground?
and I agree completely about poison suking too bad. I was playing with a nidoking, the best poison in the game (arguablee) and found him to be worse than the last pokemon I was training, a grass type, which I mae add to mai teem. IM NOT THINKING ABOUT LUDICOLO WATER STRATEGEE!*whistles* hey, it's resistant to ice...sorta...
Y will DIE! (Tiping without Y is extermelee difficult.)

Yes. Water extinquishes fire, fire evaporates water. They both negate each other on contact, and conflict when placed togather. That's probably why the pokemon designers created Groudon and Krogre. Groudon representing Fire/Earth and Krogre Water/Air.

You all make a really good point, the same goes for Water and Ice...doesn't Ice normally freeze Water? Why is there no type advantage there?

whats the point of steel? I may be missing something but are they super effective against anything? (Maybe rock, I don't feel like checking) they are just very hard and shiny ground types... the only actually metal thing I can think of off hand is Magneton.

Because Nintendo is stupid. And I think Nintendo should have those attacks classed as "cold" type instead of "ice".

Steel is super-effective against ice and rock.

I think Steel was just used as an "add-on" for the metallics versions, as is dark. Steel's mainly used for trainers who like to tank up their team being they have such high defenses and close to know weakness.

Yeah. And we can have evolutions for Solrock and Lunatone, Light/Psychic and Dark/Psychic, respectively.

Ok how about this..Ghost types...
I'm looking here in my strategy book and noticed this.
Good Things
Ghost can beat itself!
Ghost can beat Psychic.
Ghost can't be hit by Normal or Fighting.
Resistant to Poison and Bug.
Bad Things
Ghost can beat itself.
Ghost can be beaten by Dark and Steel.
Normal can't be hit by Ghost.
Then here is Dark...
Good Things
Dark can beat Psychic and Ghost.
Dark can't be hit by Psychic.
Resistant to itself.
Bad Things
Dark can be beaten by Bug and Fighting.
Dark is resistant to itself and Steel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is something wierd about this...I can't really tell...but isn't it wierd?
Dark types do not have a resistance to dragon attacks.
Poison has to be the most useless type of all... almost all of the poison types are either grass or bug... the poison doesn't give anything but weaknesses ^_^ they should get rid of poison!
I checked and there are just 6 different families of pure-poison types...
I think they should keep every type they have, no matter how useless, because some of their moves are quite powerful.
It's such a pity that bug and poison are so weak because many of my favorite pokemon happen to have one of those types.
They're (along with fighting) also the only types without a legendary representing them. If there is a fifth generation, Nintendo had better fix this!
I do want them to keep flavor in mind while fixing things though. I don't want the types fixed in exchange for not making sense anymore.
I think poison could be fixed. First, make poison attacks super effective against normal-types. It's poison. Shouldn't a larger number of creatures react badly to it? Although I know this diminishes normal's role as a "neutral" type, it would help greatly with balance if balance is the goal. I suppose similar reasoning could be used to say that poison should also be strong against water.
Bug, however, would be hard to fix while keeping things in flavor. Bugs eat grass, I get that. Why is bug strong against psychic, though? Do bugs stupid psychics to death? That's always what I thought. As for dark, I'm afraid I can come up with no explanation here. I suppose that matchup is strictly mechanical. And there really aren't any changes I can think of that could be made to bug that would make sense from this standpoint.
I'll cut it off there. Now it's time to get on topic! I don't think any types should be removed, and since I can't think of any that should be added, I can't say I support that either. So no vote it is.
Yeah, this post came out longer than I expected it to!
Aye, each type has its good moves, strengths, and weaknesses. I personally think because they should keep Poison because the most useful move in the game is Poison type. Can't think of it? It's Toxic. Virtually every Pokemon can learn this move (that is crazy though), not to mention there are only 2 types out of 17 it doesn't affect, Poison and Steel. But then again, there are the weird things. If they made Dark, you'd think there would be a Light, but there isn't. The game is fun that way, and also weird that way.
There are numerous other examples (like the one Frost mentioned is a good one), but the Toxic example is the one I picked, after all, no Poison means no Toxic.
