I was wondering what people do while throwing balls a pokemon.
I personally hold up+a while the ball is bouncing, then spin the d-pad (up left down right e.g.)

Press down and a 'til the ball opens, when I release a. When the ball closes and bounces I continue to press down and a.

I always hold SELECT during the ball's shaking. It always works...maybe it's a glitch. I'm not sure.

Never heard of the 'Select' thing, but I still hold 'A' and rotate the D-pad right after the ball pops open.

Sometimes I still catch myself holding right on the D-pad and bitting 'B' when my Pokémon gets hit too....

I press A when:
1.When the trainer throws the ball.
2.When the ball hits the pokemon.
3.When the pokemon gets sucked into the ball.
4.When ball hits the ground and keeps bouncing.
5.Every time the ball shakes.

Funny stories: I almost caught Heatran in a repeat ball. [Without having here data.]

I see these kind of things as meaningless n00b gimmicks. Pressing A or B or select or whatever has NO EFFECT on whether the ball will catch the Pokemon or not. If you actually believe it does, the real button you should be pressing on your DS is the Power button.

Pokemon is all data and databases. The game uses algorithms to decide the probability of a Pokemon breaking out of a ball versus the probability of it being caught successfully, depending on several variables such as the target's "capture rate" (a hidden number assigned to each Pokemon that determines its catching difficulty) and the remaining HP of the target, plus what kind of status conditions it's retaining, and lastly, what kind of balls are used. All the rest is down to the roll of the die, so to speak. It took me like 20 Dusk Balls to catch Azelf and only TWO to catch Uxie.

This kind of stuff bugs me to see people say "I press the A button and it WORKS!" Dude, you just got lucky. Anyone ever catch Abra with a normal Pokeball and without weakening it first? I have. It's all luck; you have a small chance of it working and a large chance of it not working, and it just so happened that you scored with the odds against you. It's not because you pressed the A button at the right time or held the Up button or looked at the screen from a certain angle. Don't go there.

Forgive my flippantness; my intent isn't to offend anyone, but I do have strong opinions on this subject so it comes off a little harsh to some of you. Just so we're all on the same level. =)

Speaking of, here is said info:

http://lolstop/games/capture.shtml

I didn't see a page about it on Psypoke, but if I missed it, please edit my post. That page gives the exact break down of the numbers used to catch a pokémon (or not catch it, as is usually my case). There's no magic involved, only numbers.

I think most people know this, honestly... Part of it is though, it's habit. For me, anyway... Yes, Pokémon is a game of stats and statistics, but when Red/Blue first came out, no one had *any* stats on the game. If someone told you Up + A worked, you tried it and it worked, hey! There's yer theory right there.

Most older Trainers know that Up/Down/Left/Right + A/B/Select doesn't work... we just choose not to care because hey, it's a game! We're having fun! Superstitions just add a little more spice into the game. I bet you even have a certain way you line up your team - no rhyme or reason to it, that's just how you roll. Well, same for us.

Noone likes a downer man. Lighten up, have a lil' fun, :P

We do this because its a habit, not because we think it works. I know what I put down doesn't work, but it gives me a sensation of punching the pokemon because it won't stay in the ******* ball. :D Losen up dude!

Yeah, I don't press anything. Back in R/B/Y I pressed B just as the ball would shake because of rumors on the Internet. Now I don't bother though.

I press Down+B at the exact moment when the Pokeball closes. I know it doesn't really affect my chances of catching a Pokemon, but it gives my hands something to do while waiting for said Pokemon to be caught.

when the ball ball starts shaking i hold B and the direction the ball shakes. I know this doesn't work but It just doesn't feel right to throw a pokeball w/o this method.

Hahahaha. I know where your comin from. I get mad when other people do it, but I do it as well. Habit really. A new thing I started doing when D/P came out....

When your character is still "holding" the ball, rotate the D-pad as if spinning the bokeball. Then whe he throws it, I push up as if going in the air. When its about to come down, I put the stylus in my mouth and press down+A fast 3 times. When the pokeball opens I tap the center of the pokeball on the bottom screen. When it starts shaking I tap the center of the pokeball with my stylus while pressing L/R rapidly. After the third shake I stop everything and yell "Victory!" into the microphone. .....This makes me fell as If I threw the pokeball with telekinesis and started gripping it as soon as the pokemon went inside.
