List of guides/tools/games/stuff that Psypoke could have (that it doesn't):

Pokemon Trozei
Pokemon XD
Pokemon Colosseum
Pokemon Dash
Contests

Known list of guides being made or possibly being made:

Guide: Person(s)
Progression: ...

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Various guides/walkthrough): sN0wBaLL
Progression: Commencing

Diamond/Pearl walkthrough/stuff: Staff
Progression: Check the site.

Something very cool and top secret: tiger10x
Progression: Still only half-done; hopeful finish date around March/April. Bonus: if you want a hint on what this is, PM tiger10x. :O

Something else very cool and top secret: tiger10x
Progression: Awesome, but I haven't really started yet. Nonetheless, it'll be awesome.

~~~~~
Original post:
i was reading the Pokemon Guide Contest thread and tiger10x was saying that it was posponed/canceled due to a lack of participation... i was thinking, maybe instead of a contest you could have an area where people could suggest Guides or Tool ideas... for example
I'd like a guide to tell me what stage in the games i need to get to before i can receive eggs in a trade from other games.
and...
A Random pokemon team generator that could generate a Battle Frontier belt or a Full Team... it would give a nice mix of types, showing a few good movesets.
Guides might have substantial content before they can be placed in the Game Guides section. A simple guide about trading might not be enough to make it into that section, but if it's good the user will nonetheless be rewarded.
As for the Pokemon Team Generator, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Probably impossible to script, and it causes people to become lazy and generate teams instead of planning for one themselves. In addition, there are billions of possible combinations of Pokemon to form a team, and many more movesets. I might be exaggerating, but you get the point; too much work is required here :P
First, you have to beat the E-4 and get the National Dex (If in a R/S/E or FR/LG game) to trade eggs. Don't know about the team generator.
Although it may not have been known or noticed by some people, the first part of my contest was a part for people to suggest this type of thing. Not to mention that it is in that state now, if people wish to use it that way. However, this topic is not the idea of the contest, so whatever.
I have an opinion on the "Team Generator" as well. There's a section in the Psydex for Movesets and there's the Standard Movesets Guide in the Game Guides forum. These list each Pokemon's standard in-game moveset. You don't need something that tells you what you could just do with looking up each individual.
What i mean by the team generator, is basically just a string of random numbers, pokemon chosen from a couple of the main types and a couple others. You put in a few paramaters, maybe specifiying that you want at least 1 grass pokemon, 1 water, a Ninetales, and 2 random pokemon from the Kanto region, plus one more random one from the Jhoto region.
and it would return something that looks a bit like this:
Random Full Team:
{venusaur} {cloyster} {ninetales} {gengar} {farfetch'd} {scizor}
or you might want a belt of pokemon all from one region, but not care what types... or all from one region and all one type, or all one type from any region...
I dont mean the team generator to be a insane calculation machine that will churn out the most undefeatable team possible in the game... just for it to make groups of pokemon that "some random trainer" might have... similar to how it works when you go to the Battle Factory in the Battle Frontier... you get a choice of random pokemon which can make for some interesting stratagies and i've liked it because i've used pokemon that i never normally would... and all across the battle frontier, you face off against people with random teams...
I get your point, but I still don't see a need. Most people still choose their party Pokemon manually.
If you want to randomly generate a team, all you have to do is to go to http://www.randomnumbergenerator.com to generate six numbers from 1 to 386, and voila, you have a random team. Due to the random nature of this selection, it is quite unlikely for the team to be significantly unbalanced (e.g. six water types).
I think we should have a Pokemon XD guide. I'd make it, but I've been stuck in the same place for months. :roll:
I'm starting to make a new Pokemon XD walkthrough. It will probably be done in like a month or so.
Update to the topic:
I've added a small feature on the top of the first post, showing some stuff that can be an easily organized and collected there. The lists may not be updated immediately, but we'll try the best
Also, if you are making a guide or doing something for the site, you don't have to tell us at all. If you do want to, just PM me or someone else with the authority to update that list (like sN0wBaLL) or just post here. The second list is merely what we do know.
I know that this topic hasn't been replied to in a while, but don't we need a more expanded Emerald guide?
And what do you mean by a catching guide?
We also need a tiers list. Take it from gamefaqs or smogon (w/ permission of course). And I mean in both Netbattle and in-game (ie, celebi and jirachi would be uber, because you can't get them)
I wouldn't say that we need an expanded Emerald walkthrough. After a brief check of the guide, it looks sufficient enough. Sure, it's short, but it's not like it's not so vague that you don't know what's going on.
A guide over catching Pokemon is exactly what it sounds like. It would detail the process, equation, PokeBalls, and other related things.
Regarding tiers, that would probably just belong in the NetBattle forum. If you noticed, we don't have many things at all on the site about NetBattle. And I really don't think people care about knowing what would be considered OU or UU in-game. We also probably wouldn't be taking one from another site even if we had permission. :roll:
I'd like to see an addition to the breeding info for each pokemon that'd tell you the breeding chain to put two different egg moves on a pokemon, i.e. breed pokemon A with pokemon B to create a pokemon B with moves 1 and 2, then breed that pokemon B with pokemon C to create a pokemon C with moves 1 and 2. Also, list which egg moves are impossible to have with other egg moves, as in its impossible to have a Milotic with both hypnosis and mirror coat, even though both are possible egg moves.
This would make planning move sets much easier if I could tell at a glance which moves cannot be learned together.
Also, include in the learnsets listing for each pokemon information on moves that can only be learned from a specific game. The learnset for Cubone in P/D has Fire Punch as a possible move, but in reality you can only get this move on him by trading one to an Emerald game from FR/LG, having a tutor teach it to him, and then transferring him to P/D.
to above replier:
a Breeding map/ tree/ guide you saying?
To other people:
So exactly is anyone writing a pokemon contest guide for RSE and/or DP?
it seems that this forum is a bit focused on battling rather than contests...
When it comes to contests, Psypoke doesn't have anything big on strategy, and we don't have a DP contest page at all yet. As far as I know, no one is working on contests at all.
Yeah, I know I'm quoting something incredibly old, but there is a reason for that:
With Diamond and Pearl well under way, and the doors to competitive battling having been thrown wide open, I think that the site could do with some kind of Metagame section, or 'Competitive Battling' section.
Back in RSE, competitive battling was only for those that had access to Netbattle, and was never really that big on the scene for the average Pokemon player. But now that Wifi allows you to use your trained and bred in-game Pokemon, I think that Psypoke could have its own section for competitive battles.
I mean, I know that there is the 'suggested moveset' part of the psydex, but could that part not be split from the dex and put into its own section? Similarly, the need for a tier list is pretty important, in my opinion. Whenever a new person comes onto IRC, or challenges me to a battle via PM (which is strictly prohibited, I know, but I don't turn down such challengers,) it gets annoying having to link them to some rival site that has a teir list because 'wats an oober!?!?!?!?!' comes flashing onto my screen.
Most people battle in the OU Metagame over Wifi. However, I'm finding that when you engage in battles, a lot of people don't have a clue what you're talking about when you say 'Standard OU match,' or something similar. So I think a tier list and, subsequently, a whole section for the metagame, would be pretty useful.
It sounds like a hell of a job, but surely Psypoke wants to keep up with the rival sites that are already racing ahead on the competitive scene?
And I'm pretty sure that quite a few people wouldn't mind lending a hand on this project, myself included. :)
I'll readily suggest other ideas for this new section, but I'll wait until the concept is approved before I start my long post filled with ideas. :p
Psypoke is more of an informational site on the games themselves rather than the strategies. We have a few strategy areas here and there and a moveset section for the Psydex, but Psypoke was not originally intended to be for the competitive people. Although I doubt that we will produce an entire competitive battling section for the site, the idea is not impossible. DP movesets and other guides should be in store soon/eventually, but we would need a lot more to make a site section for this. Either way, you would attract much more debate in the suggestion forum that we have now. This topic is for members' projects that are not guaranteed to make it on the main site. Try posting a topic in Eterna Forest for this. In the case that we do start a project like this, I'm sure that our staff knows how to handle it in terms of what pages to make, too.
I would write a guide of getting good individuals, eggmove breeding, nature breeding and other things related to advanced (in advanced breeding you dont breed to get baby pokemon, you breed cause you want pokemon with Eggmove, Good nature and IV:s) breeding.
I hope this isn't necromancy, but I'd like to see a guide where you say, if you put a certain TM on a certain pokemon, what other pokemon via breeding could have it.
