Oh, man, that's why I love FireRed so much! So many memories! The fact that I knew what just about every person was going to say at every moment while playing FR makes me wonder exactly how many times I restarted Red Version...
The cards. Oh man, I remember those. My fascination with them ended when some high school kid ripped me off by trading a lapras and first edition aerodactyl for my charizard. *sigh* Those days...
The Indigo season? Yes. The good season. I stopped watching after the First Movie came out, I hated that movie and still do.

I do. I was a fan of Pokemon since I was in the first grade, which was back in '98.

*sighs* I rember those days... That was when I still found the Anime fairly good. I collected the cards in their hundreds, and my dad even helped me to create a computerized database for them. I even dragged my parents to the three movies that came out before I gave up the Anime for ever. Kids in the playground still nattered about their level 46 Charizards, and I was suckered out of a shiny Nidoqueen card. These days, no-one likes even the games. Mention Pokemon, and you're a figure of fun. Or maybe it's just from my perspective. Damn, secondary school is a hell for independant interests or thinking. Like anything other than football, and you're a loser. I could rant on about youth culture these days, but for all you guys' sanity, I won't!!! Maybe with Pearl and Diamond's online features, Ninty'll get back the crowds of school-kids and fans...

Oh, how I remember.
I remember it was the hottest thing until around grade 7, which was last year (2004-2005)
All the tricks that didn't work
The false rumors of how certain pokemon evolve *cough* trade eevee at night and you'll get an umbreon *cough*
The debates on what Lugia's type actually was. Flying/water? Flying/Psychic? Water/Psychic?
Yup... Then it ended. Oh well

They actually debated Lugia's type? That's plain sad... Psychic/Flying as we all know today.
Those days rocked. The days when you chucked your Master Ball at a trainer's pokemon, released all of your pokemon except a level 10 Magikarp thinking that they were going to Prof. Oak and meeting a Golbat and "WTF is that? Lol!!!"
And back then the anime was actually good and it is actually at times and channels where it can be viewed. I can't watch the anime right now, short of coming home during school.

Those days abounded with rumors actually I just heard about GSC rumors because I had "The Official Pokemon Handbook" and such so any rumors about that were dispelled. Rumors like:
The 250th Pokemon is a fusion of the past 249.
No one really knew exactly how many Pokemon there were - one guy said 257.
And - don't even get me started...
Yeah, the anime was actually GOOD back then. The decline appeared at the 4Ever movie - it SUCKED!! Then the reputation fell, and fell, and fell...and now it's BELOW ROCK BOTTOM!
And yeah I had cards though I didn't have a good deck. The acme of the cards was in the RBY days - the Koffing that could poison and confuse his opponent, the Muk that negated Poke-Powers (both of which I use) - but now basic Pokemon stink! Sure, legendary cards are good, like Deoxys (I have Deoxys Atk and Deoxys Def cards), but the others aren't even worth having... I just wish they'd make better cards. (I once had the original Zapdos - my friend traded me an Entei, Slugma, Magcargo, AND his Yellow version for it! I accepted because my best deck isn't electric type...)
Whoa...That sounded long-winded.
*EDIT: A whole WALL of Pokedex certificates? Man everybody must have been completely obsessed there. But yes, the schools did ban Pokemon and Game Boys from school premises. Frankly I can't blame them one bit - it was getting to the point when the obsession became unhealthy. This isn't to criticize anyone but most people can see what I mean. (I did not really have a game or cards of my own - well I had cards but I lost them - so I always watched on the sidelines, now glad I didn't get that involved.)

OMG u brought back so many happy memories... I remember back when I wasn't very popular in school and would be made fun of, I would come back and sit in my closet( I had made an entire pokemon shrine in there... I was kind of obsessed back then, no joke) and just sit and play for hours. It was the first game I got into that didn't involve a gun. Back then, my pokemon really were my friends(please include that I was about 6 when I started playing, and no, I'm not crazy). It was all about competition at school, like who could get all 151 pokemon first, then print out the certificate and bring it to school. It was so hot back then, one of my teachers made a wall of nothing but pokedex certificates for her students( until schools started banning pokemon... it was a dark, dark time for us). Ah yes, the good ole days. I have to go find my RBY versions again. I know I still have the very first guide book.

I think most of the people who play pokemon started to play it when it came out. I think it's very rare for someone to just go and buy a Pokemon game when they've never played the ones before.
