I'm thinking about this sort of team for FR:
{venusaur}
{arcanine}
{pidgeot}
{jolteon}
{lapras}
TM/HM slave
I'm unsure as to anything else just yet, so can I have some suggestions on which pokemon to have/take out? The only thing is I will not take out Arcanine.
Edits: Changed Flareon to Jolteon.

I would recomend a {jolteon} in place of {flareon} since you already have Arcanine.

Can someone also recommend a good TM/HM slave, and what to teach them? Also, if there's a drop-dead awesome grass pokemon out there like {vileplume} or {bellossom}, I can switch that in for {lapras} and use a {squirtle} starter, meaning I could then use Sunny Day with {arcanine}.
(These images are fun.)

A good HM slave, I've found, in FR/LG is Krabby/Kingler.

It can learn Surf, Strength, Rock Smash, Cut, and Dive.

Leaving out Fly (Pidgeot spare slot if applicable)
Flash (who needs it)
Waterfall (not a necessity until the Sevii Islands)

I actually used Krabby in Gold as my slave, so if it works well here (as you say) then I'll use it. I can possibly put waterfall on my Lapras and still have some gooid moves on it, Fly goes on Pidgeot, and Flash on maybe a plant type I can just switch in whenever I go to those Sevii Islands. Or, what if I use Vaporeon instead of Jolteon, then out in, say, a Vileplume?

no vileplume, whatever you do... you will only regret it.

I would add a Golem or Oni/Steelix... something physical.
Machamp might be a good one too. You need something either rock, ground, fighting or steel, preferably a combination of these.

Also, something else you have kind of neglected is te fact that your team is full of one-type pokemon, when you could have combination ones. Pigeot, Arcanine and Jolteon all only have one type. Maybe replace pigeot for dragonite, or jolteon for magneton.

Dragon and steel are good for ingame also, due to the large amounts of resistances they have.

There is my ideas, sorry for any spelling mistakes, i am was in a rush.

Dragonite, how could I have forgotten!? *Slaps self on head.* I have nobody to trade with so I cant evolve into a Golem. I might use an Onix or something. Thank you for the info.

I also like using Haunter/Gengar.

I moveset for him is as follows (and works wonders if you train him well):

Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Psychic
Giga Drain

Thunderbolt stabs out Flying/Water types (Misty/Rival/Lorelei)
Shadow Ball knocks out Psychic/Ghost types (Sabrina/Agatha)
Psychic destroys Poison/Fighting types (Koga/Bruno)
Giga Drain eliminates Ground/Rock/Water types (Brock/Misty/Bruno)

The only one people you have to work about would be:
Lt. Surge but Giga Drain could handle him as well as Psychic.
Erika's Tangela but Psychic could still take it out.
Blaine but once again either Psychic or Thunderbolt will do the trick.
Lance won't be tough if you another Pokemon that knows an ice move, if not Thunderbolt most of his team (it will work) Dragonite might take a bit to take down but it can be done.

I know most people say Gengar shouldn't know Shadow Ball because it's a physical move and Gengar's Atk isn't all that great, but it always knocks out a Pokemon when I need it too, so I kept it despite the criticism.

Hope this helps.

I'll definitely take it into consideration.
My current plan is:
Venusaur
Arcanine
Vaporeon
Dragonite
Haunter/Gengar
Something physical to switch in
An HM/TM slave (Krabby)

Hope it all works out for you and glad I could help, as well as good luck!

That sounds like one of those diverse pokemon one could use throughtout the entire game. I used to do that with my Typhlosion in Gold, in third grade. Good times. It sounds like a really good pokemon/moveset to use.

Oh my. I love it. I use it alone to wipe out the E4 in Emerald and in FR

I have both, it's the link cable I'm missing. Theoretically I could trade using my friends GBA SP and link cable and my GBA, but I'm not sure if his link cable works with GBA and GBA SP (If he even has one.) If this would all work, however, that means I could use Espeon, which is a really cool pokemon in my opinion. Is Espeon any good in FR/LG?

On a side note I'd like to add that I'm Canadian, so here we use $, not £.
