No, it definitly WON'T be a big hit because you need the other persons freind code. If you want more information, just an option, check out the poll "Are you mad?" in this forum.

What if you have two DS and DP?
You can obviously trade between the two then... but the friend's code. You can just ask someone on here, right? I haven't really read up on all the new stuff happening in DP - just the Pokemon - so I'm really in the dark about the new WiFi and craziness. I'm excited though =]

There are literally hundreds of forums that will have topics to share friend codes. I doubt this forum won't be one of them. Just go to the topic, register a code, and then battle. Its not too hard.

Ah i thought the battle system would be something like Mario Kart DS where you just play random people.

Firstly:
Quote: Could someone please tell me how Wi-fi works???
You can either bring ur DS along to what they call wifi hotspots, which could be in shopping malls or local meeting places (go to the nintendo website for more info on how to locate them), or, use your wireless internet network at home to do it (if you're lucky enough to have one). When using a game such as Mariokart DS that utilises wfc, therell be a menu for finding and using access points. USe this utility to scan for, and apply, the settings for ur LAN. If that fails, copy the details from ur cmptr, but just notch the last value of ur IP address up one or 2 (eg 192.167.1.2 for ur cmptr, so alter to 192.167.2.2 for ur DS). Perhaps there should be a help section for this with PD coming to US soon? Just a suggestion.

But what about someone who comes along thinking theyre tough as nails and they keep getting pwned by some uber pokemon expert who just throws opponents aside! S'not gonna stay popular!

Are you SERIOUS? You must be living under a rock then, since Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were Japan's fastest selling Pokemon game and the best selling DS game. I'm getting really sick of idiots whining about friend codes, too. I don't really see what's so bad about them. I wouldn't want some random person to trade me Pokemon anyway...I heard about that "glitch" on ACWW (another DS game) where your gates turn into a museum (caused by a gameshark and was commonly transfered to other games through WiFi) so it's impossible to leave your town again.
Yes, I do think it's be a big hit; hard to tell if it'll be as big as the games in the past.

I think wifi is one of the many aspects, along with the popularity of the DS (perhaps due to games such as "brain training"), that is making pokemon more sellable to an audience wider than us ongoing pokemon fans. perhaps ppl who played RBY as kids and then gave it up will return, now that DS is "acceptable" for adults? who knows.

actully Krisp, some random guy CAN trade you pokemon, even if you don't have there freind code. also i've gotten out of the rock because i know psypoke's forums will host a freind code thread so you can battle ppl, so now i think that its wi-fi will rock, but it could use minor tweking.

I personaly think that D/P is going to be a big WiFi hit.
I do however also believe that Pokemon Battle Revolution is going to be better for WiFi, but not as popular due to less people having a Wii.

Furthermore, that means mainly hardcore fans of Pokemon will be putting their teams on there, and will be less likely to battle some weak fool, who uses Luvdisc and Farfetch'd. It would be a rather boring game imo without PD, so Revolution will be for those who train hardest.
And yeah, PD will certainly be a big hit here. There are many "closet Pokemon lovers" at my school who I have found, claiming that they were "mature." Idiots.

I think that D/P WiFi will be a huge hit. I've already seen other forums that have peoples freind codes in it, not to mention the amount of people in some of the japanese forums, posting up requests for trade like "darkrai for raquaza" or things like that. Man, the japanese are so lucky. They get the whole darkrai glitch and we don't...

I'd have to disagree. I'm sure there will be forums all over the internet with stickies for friend codes. You post yours once and a limitless number of people can see it. It wouldn't be to hard to arrange a battle on forums like this either; just PM the person and wait for a response.

:O Ya. I came to post.
From what i understand, the online aspect sucks cause hackers with action replays cheat too much and ruin it.
However, If you know the person in real life. It's gonna be awesome. I can play with my friends from my house.

I wouldn't mind people using action replay to get pokemon like darkrai and whats that other one?... Arceus or something like that... I don't know. But if action replayers start using it to uber pwn everyone in battles, then just stick to batteling freinds.

I think it's going to be a big hit becuase I can finally battle and trade with all of my friends! (I never could battle or trade in most fo the previous games because none of my friends live in the same state as me.)
So I am very excited! Wo0t!
