Use a pokemon with Protect. Protect on the turn that Slaking can attack, and attack on the turn the Slaking is slacking off. Just thought I'd post this cuz I haven't seen it anywhere. I used this strategy to beat Norman.

{slaking}

...couldn't help it

Good thinking. But many already know this strategy.

To make use of this thread maybe people can start posting good stratedgies of defeating certain Pokes? Just an idea.

It was kinda sad how I beat Norman with this stratagy. I used a Lv. 15 {machop} and it was sad watching the tiny machop beat up {slaking}.

It is to possible to put {slaking} to sleep because it does not have the ability Vital Spirit, it has Slack Off  why do you think it can only attack every other turn

It's ability is Truant. I think Slack Off is an attack.

Slack Off is an attack which restores half of your max HP. It's ability is Truant, which allows it to only attack every other turn. Of course, if anyone bothered to look in the Psydex, you would know all this information.

I really wish one simple post I make doesn't cause so much conflict about attacks and abilities.

Mainly I use my toxi-stalling sableye to kill it. Toxic it, protect every other turn, and a confuse ray here and there.

Yeah I don't see why there's so much debate regarding a Pokemon owned by the computer character. Try debating how to kill a Slaking used by other humans instead.

Anyway, I just want to confirm that Slaking's ability is Truant, while Vital Spirit is the ability of Vigoroth, not Slaking.

There was no debate on how to kill it, one user gave inaccurate information, which needed to be corrected.

here is my strategy to use a Spinda:

Have it learn thrash. This is for 2 important reasons:

1: STAB
2: No confusion because of Spinda's own tempo.

Then make it learn Faint attack so it can hit Ghosts.

The intended moveset is:

{spinda} @ Shell Bell

EVs: 252 in Attack, 252 in Special Attack and 6 in Speed

Moveset:

Thrash
PsyBeam/Psychic (cant remember which oneit learns)
Faint Attack
Mega Punch/Filler

In my opinion, replace Shell Bell with leftovers, and make it a Physical, not Mixed, Sweeper. The moveset would be:

{spinda}@Leftovers
Adamant 252 Attack, 129 HP, 129 Defense/Speed
Thrash
Shadow Ball
Focus Punch
Teeter Dance (only cuz it's Spinda's signature move) / Substitute

Now one of my own:

{aggron}@Leftovers
Adamant 252 Attack, 129 Defense, 129 Special Defense
Counter (High defense allows it to absorb attacks and hit back twice as hard)
Thunder Wave (For slowing down the opponent, making up for lack of speed)
Aerial Ace (For Fighting types)
Brick Break/Earthquake/Rock Slide (Your pick)

here is a good moveset for {swampert} :

Mixed Sweeper:

{swampert} @ leftovers

Surf
Ice Beam
Earthquake
Rock Slide (I think it learns that)

EVs: 252 A 252 SA 6 Speed

Using {swampert} :

Swampert is immune to Electric types, so EQ them. If you stumble upon a {zapdos} or any other Electric/Flying types then use Rock Slide or Ice Beam. Ice Beam any dragons away and Surf the Fire/Rock/Ground pokemon.

Physical Sweeper:

{swampert} @ leftovers

Earthquake
Rock Slide
Brick Break
Rest

Using Swampert:

Earthquake : Same as Mixed Sweeper. Rock Slide : Same as Mixed sweeper. Brick Break : Takes care of Dark/Rock/Steel and other types. Rest: Restore HP (obvious).

I appreciate the contributions but I didn't mean for this to become a moveset guide. Maybe we could discuss effective ways of defeating certain powerful pokemon (as stated previously).

Maybe this post should be in FRLG but guess how I beat this idiot (after losing to it SO many times)
<p>{gyarados}@???
<p>H. Beam
<p>EQ
<p>Dragon Dance
<p>T. Wave
<p>And the defeat-without-taking-any-damage-at-all goes to... *drumroll*
<p>{gengar}@nothing (but I should have coupled Lefties with Curse)
<p>Shadow Ball (this took a LONG time)
<p>Curse (I should have used it.. Aww. But this would take away the honour of not taking any damage at all)
<p>D. Bond (just in case)
<p>Shadow Punch (ok, this really should have been replaced with T. Bolt or Thunder for max attack but i was reluctant)
<p></p><p>Levitate takes care of EQ and its ghost-half takes care of H. Beam. So i just hammered away unhurt! (except for the fact that I got paralysed)

Sorry I got it mixed up with its previous ability as a Vigoroth so Vigiroth is the one that cant be put to sleep because of his Vital Spirit ability not Slaking Slakings is Truant.

this is how I beat {umbreon} :

{umbreon} @ Salac Berry

Mean look
Faint Attack
Double team
Moonlight

VS.

{gengar} @ Chesto Berry

Shadow Punch
Curse
Rest
Mean Look

{umbreon} cant attack at all (based on it's most used moveset) so {umbreon} WOULD use Double Team , {gengar} curses, {umbreon} keeps double teaming and {gengar} Mean Looks. Now all {umbreon} can do is Mean Look, Double team and Moon Light.Make {gengar} Shadow Punch as much as it can and Rest when necesary. The reason I put Shadow punch and not Shadow Ball is cause Shadow Punch never misses and {umbreon} may use Double team too much.

That is my way of beating an {umbreon}. Hope i helped!!

I tried using a {lairon} since normal attacks do one quarter damage. Sadly, he used Faint attack. Even with Steel resistance to Dark, the Faint attack killed {lairon} in 2 hits!

Later I tried {gyarados} (L30). He pwned the first {slaking} and {vigoroth} with dragon rage, but lost to the L31 {slaking}. Then I got out and used a {nuzleaf} and kept using cut (HM slavery). It killed the {slaking} since moronic {slaking} kept trying focus punch. I kept using cut, {slaking} lost his focus, and victory!

It's a waste to use Surf when you already have Ice Beam and Earthquake since super effective wise, Ice Beam and Earthquake covers the same types.
