Power Ups, like Miracleseed and SpellTag, don't work for me.

For some background, there are certain items in GSC that power up certain type of moves, like Charcoal, which powers up Fire moves, and Pink Bow, which powers up Normal moves.
Well, I put the power ups on some of my Pokemon to see how well it worked, , they didn't make a difference in the damage that my Pokemon did with those certain elemental attacks. Am I doing something wrong?

No, you're not doing anything wrong. Those items, although they do work, are rather minimal in how much they help. You're honestly better off with things like Leftovers, Quick Claw, Scope Lens (which might be tough to get) or even a King's Rock, if you have a spare. Really, I put the type booster items on only if I don't have any other more suitable items.

I give all my poke's their respective power-ups, despite whether they're effective or not

It only makes the damage multiply by x1.1
