Quote: May 10, 2006 - Nintendo just pulled a fast one on us. At an after-hours press briefing a mere minute ago, the company pulled another ace out of its sleeve: Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- the next installment in Nintendo's popular Super Smash Bros. series.
Shigeru Miyamoto himself has confirmed the following playable characters:
# Pit (Kid Icarus)
# Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
# Zero Suit Samus (the blue "no-suit" Samus from Metroid: Zero Mission)
# Metaknight (Kirby)
# Wario (Wario)
Under the direction of series creator Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros. Brawl will feature classic, GameCube-style combat -- not Wii-style motion-controlled combat. That means players who prefer to play the game with the traditional control setup can look forward to using the GameCube control-style they're already accustomed to.
"We found that trying to implement too much motion-sensory functionality can get in the way of the game. We're looking at keeping the control simple, as it has been," said Sakurai. "The Wii hardware has sockets for the GameCube controller, too. So I'll just say now that you may not want to throw away your GCN controller yet."
The game also features a range of new nasty toys, such as the ability to unleash a puppy from Nintendogs that will run up to the screen, put its paws up and obscure the view of the action. Mario, Kirby, Pikachu and Link have been confirmed as returning characters. Sakurai confirmed that Wario actually has a fart attack and that Solid Snake can use his trusty cardboard box. In the video trailer, Snake gets out of the box and says "It's showtime!"
"We thought a lot about what to do with Snake and his moves in Super Smash Bros. Brawl," said Sakurai. "As you all know Snake walks around with a gun, but with Super Smash Bros. I didn't want to bring in a lot of real weapons. So that was a real challenge. But conversely, if we could use things like rocket launchers and other explosives, not only would that be fitting for Snake, but it would work for the other characters. But who knows. Maybe Snake will exclusively use explosives throughout the game."
Sakurai said the decision to include Solid Snake when Hideo Kojima himself practically "begged" to include the Metal Gear character in the last Smash Bros. game. When asked about the possibility of Sonic the Hedgehod appearing in the game as well, Shigeru Miyamoto said: "There are probably possibilities for other third parties as well, and it maybe that even know there are corporate discussions going on about including some of these other characters."
Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode. "My plan is to include Wi-Fi connection compatibility and online functionality. One of the primary reasons Super Smash Bros. Brawl was created was that Nintendo, when taking Wii online, wanted to have Smash Bros. to do that," added Sakurai.
The bad news is that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will no longer be a Wii launch title, but will instead be released in 2007.
More as it breaks.

I wasn't gonna get the Wii, but now I sold. Snake is one of my favorites, but I hope they use him well in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Metaknight is just too cool.
I'm also glad they are using the simple GameCube controllers so it doesn't get too complicated.

I might get the Wii just for SSBB. Then some others as they are released. The pictures and graphics are awesome and I think it looks like it has a storyline.
Time to save up some cashsters!

HOLY TOLEDO.
That is it. Link is ho-I mean, uh, looks better. [/tryingtocoverupfactthatgardythinkslinkistheoppositeofcoolbutnotgeeky]
Yay for Meta-Knight! I thought it was fun on Kirby: NMIDL, but this is cool! And I get to see Samus without her suit! She sorta looks like atomboyish Zelda. Which me likey. I am getting a Wii, regardless of what my dad says.

Pit looks awesome, as does Metaknight.
If the game does not include Lucas (from Mother 3), I may be hesitant to buy it at release.

You can find that in the first post. Please do some reading before asking questions about stuff that's already been explained.

I understand the corporate reason why Snake is in there, but I'm a traditionalist, and I hate the idea of Nintendo allowing any old third-party character into SSBM. SSBM is about Ninty's history, of which Sonic and Snake have no part. What would it feel like if Sega shoved SMB. 3 into another Sonic Mega Collection?

Wow, you know what? I should get off my N64 and play the Gamecube version of SSB. D:
I might get this game; but since I haven't even played the gamecube game, I don't think I'll be able to "follow" the game. It might be pointless, because with FFX-2, you have to play the original FFX to understand anything in X-2.

O rly? I guess I missed the memo where he's not a Nintendo character. SSBM features prominent characters from games on Nintendo platforms, not just characters created solely by Nintendo. By that right, Sonic could, and in my opinion should, be in Brawl. Since Sega left the console market, Sonic has practically been absorbed into Nintendo.
While I am sad that SSBB won't be out until 2007, I think it's for the best. I'll be getting a Wii and Twilight for my birthday (Thanksgiving, BTW) as well as plenty more. Wii + Twilight + Sonic + Red Steel + Duck Hunt II + Gun Shell == Busy, Broke Jiggz.
Hopefully, when SSBB comes out, I'll have wrapped up enough of the launch titles that I'll be able to really get into the game. My problem with SSBM was that I got it right when I got my cube, and then more games started coming out and getting me distracted. SSBM has since fallen into disuse, and I'm quite out of practice.

1. Wario looks like such an idiot in that movie. I mean, come on.
2. Pit looks cool.
3. EDIT: Ok, Link looks better than in SSBM. It's just, in the beginning of the movie he looked kinda like a girl for a second... And that Triforce attack looks so 00ber.
4. They had better have a Fire Emblem character in there, hopefully Ike or Soren or someone close to them. Otherwise... *death glare*
5. Is that a Nintendog I see? ^_^
This sounds like an awesome game. Can't wait.

How can one be so dumb. Honestly, it is a game not a history book, and even if it was then Sonic and Snake have just as much right in it as Mario and Link. I mean half of America's "Founding Fathers" lived in Britain before America and they are not excluded from history. I mean Ben Franklin probably would have been happier spending his life there instead of America.
And I think that Wario is cool despite what others think. I also think that Ephraim should be in SSBB for Fire Emblem.

Does anybody else think that the castle in the trailer is a Fire Emblem Stage?
...and will this be moved to Other Games Discussion eventually?

Nope, it's not a Pokemon game, so it stays here. Unless of course you were starting a discussion of the Pokemon in SSBB, then it would need to go to OGD.

This Topic is now about how Pikachu is utterly oblivious to Wario's fart.

*views trailer again*
It might be, but I don't remember anything on Fire Emblem with cannons/flaming rock-things. I sure hope so, though.

Erika could be in it except that she is just like the existing Fire Emblem Characters in the game minus quite a bit of clothes. Ephraim is pretty much the only character that uses spears without a mount.

The castle looks like Hyrule Castle. With the drawbridge leading into a vast expanse of field, and the shape of the wall, and that yellow gleamy blob which I think might just be Link's Triforce attack thingy, well, yeah, thats what I think it is.
Besides, thank goodness that theyre keeping the GCN controller...I will feel loved, and use the same controller.

I am ALL about Metaknight, he's always been one of my favorites. Pit is a good "lesser known" character a la Ice Climbers, and Wario was pretty much a shoo-in. Zero suit Samus looks cool, but who knows. I'm very surprised about Solid Snake, but glad as well.
Another plus side to the fact that it's using the old GC control is that those who played Melee will still know what's going on. Plus, you don't have to buy extra Wii controllers to play it.
I'm hoping for some more characters from other games (more Mother characters, either from 2 or 3, maybe?) and I pray that the current ones (assuming that all of the past characters return) aren't just clones of each other. (it annoys me to no end when characters are like that...)
All I know is I'm going to have to dust off Melee to get myself ready and keep myself occupied.

This may sound rather n00bish, but what game is Metaknight from? I have fond memories of Kid Icarus on my NES but my mind draws a blank when it comes to Metaknight. Snake FTW!

In other words, Kirby.
I don't like the idea of 'clones' on the games, but imo it was decently entertaining to 99VS Marth and Roy.
Wario can burn imo. Pit looks awesome, though I've never played Kid Icarus... w00t for Pit.
