How good is Magical Leaf? Better than Razor Leaf or Solarbeam? I have a meganium that would like to have one.

<font color=ACEACE>It is one of the best grass moves in my opion. If you are unable to slap on a Giga Drain, go for it. Though I recommend you go for the SolarBeam, Sunnday, Synthesis combo. Next time post in the right forum.

I happen to like Magical Leaf.

My Tropius has it. It seems to do less damage than Razor Leaf (must be
my imagination) but it's very colourful and accurate.

Now I'm stuck trying to decide which move to get rid of so that I can
teach Tropius Synthesis, which it'll learn two levels from now.

Hmmm....Body Slam, Razor Leaf, Magical Leaf and Solarbeam....

I'll figure it out. :D

I'd put Sunny Day and Synthesis over Body Slam and Razor Leaf or Razor Leaf and Magical Leaf, it depends if you want to keep Magical Leaf or Body Slam.

I think the only difference is,

Name: Razor Leaf
PP: 25
Description: High Critical Hit Ratio.
Damage: 55
Accuracy: 95

Name: Magical Leaf
PP: 20
Description: Negates evasion and accuracy modifiers.
Damage: 60
Accuracy: N/A

I personally would choose Magical Leaf.

Ah - ok. Thanks for the advice! :D

But I'm wondering...

Would it be better to keep the normal type move (Body Slam) just in case
my Tropius goes up against a pokemon whose type is resistant to grass?

That way, I may have a "Neutral" move to use. :?

Sure you can do that, also it's good if you can get Hidden Power Rock Type, that covers most of it's weaknesses.

Ok. Thanks, buddy! :D

But Hidden Power...I can never find out which type it is... :?
There must be some quick way to do that... :?:

I think there's a trainer to the left of Lilycove, I think she/he has a LV. 42 Kecleon, you can use Hidden Power on it, and it'll change into it's type.
Other than that, you can test it on different wild pokemon.

Just go fight one of the hidden Kecleons around Fortree City, or, if you have fought all of them already, just go look for wild ones. They're rare, but strangely I've always been able to find them quite easily. Even if you take some time to find one, I still find it less tedious than to test it out against various types to guess the type.

Of course, if you're trying for something like HP Electric/Normal/Ghost/Poison/Ground then all you have to do is try them out against a Ground/Ghost/Normal/Steel/Electric type.

I dunno, I somehow favour Razor Leaf's high Critical Hit ratio over Magical Leaf's Accuracy. That's just me.

Magical Leaf is stronger than Razor Leaf, yet weaker than Solarbeam

Magical Leaf: 60 base power, 20 base PP, 100% accuracy, grass version of swift
Giga Drain: 60 base power, 5 base PP, 100% accuracy, heals user by 1/2 damage done.
Solarbeam: 120 (60) base power, 10 base PP, 100% accuracy, 2 turn move that becomes 1 turn if sunny, 60 base if rain or sand. Suicide on grass types without Chlorophyll
Razor Leaf: 55 base power, 25 base PP, 95% accuracy, high CH rate and becomes 27 base power in 2vs2
Leaf Blade: 70 base power, 15 base PP, 100% accuracy, high CH rate (learned only by Sceptile & Smeargle)
Frenzy Plant: 150 (75) base power, 5 base PP, 90% accuracy, requires recharge (learned only by Venusaur & Smeargle). Also the worst grass move to ever exist.
Hidden Power: 30-70 base power, 15 base PP, 100 accuracy, base power and type depends on the user's IVs. For comparison purposes, we will automatically assume it is a 70 base power grass move in this case.

Leaf Blade & Hidden Power win

371T3, I know you feel strongly about this but i happen not to believe in HM slaving.

Anyway, Magical Leaf is a reasonably good attack and it can be learned by quite a few Pokemon that are not grass (including Mr. Mime and Togetic) so it is useful in a pich and cannot be affected by accuracy-reducing moves.

(371T3 was just standing behind me and he said "It's true. Tropius is a HM slave." Sigh.)

Don't to necromancy, aka posting in an old thread that has been finished with.
