Ugh.
This has happened to me on Crystal. I left my game out in the snow for a few weeks (I didn't know it was out there) and when I tried to play it, it wouldn't save, and alot of sprites were glitched up boxes that looked like Missingno.
Did you drop your game in water, or maybe just dropped it on a hard floor? My guess is internal damage.
Edit: I bought a Pokemon Silver version from Gamestop and it didn't save. You've been ripped off, I'd suggest trying to get a refund.

Moonchild's suggestion is what I was going to say.
Also, your game may be just too old, the previous owner dropped it/ruined it then turned it in (Most likely, scamming Gamestop as well), or the internal battery's going dead.

This exact same thing happened to my friend. He says it was sitting on his rug for a while and he thought static screwed it up. But my guess could've been a magnet was close to it... And when you try to save, does it say, "Error in the *something or other*"? Because it did in my friends...

It's been two months since the previous reply to this thread was posted, so I'll assume that pokemon champion has had his queries answered. Therefore your post counts as slight necromancy
