No. They Are Weak against Ice and Most of them have flying Sub-types. Thus making them even more weak against Ice.

No is my answer. Dragon types are not strong. Many of them have a 4x waekness to ice like Flygon and Altaria. If you ask me which type is the strongest, I would go with a electric type.

In my opinion, ghost pokemon are slighty stronger than all the other types. Dragon pokemon aren't really really strong, but I will admit, they are a pain to beat. Flygon and Altaria are examples of pokemon I dislike for many reasons. Flygon, because Steven has one and its annoying, and Altaria because its ugly and Ein has one.

Edit: err, I meant Drake. I fail at Hoenn Generation.

Steven has a Flygon? 0-0 Last I checked, he had Skarmory, Claydol, Aggron, Metagross, and ah.....2 others.
Anyway, I think.....ahh, Dark and Psychic are the most powerful. .....Switch the two around. >_>
Most Dragon/Flying types are sorta easy to pwn. *croons to lv 100 Altaria* Not you, my wittle bundle of joy.... *snaps into consciousness* Uh, wha?

The Dragon-type's weakness to ice is the only thing keeping me from becoming a full-on Dragon trainer. Well, they're also rare...but forget that.

Dragon types are nice, though. *wishes Charizard was Fire/Dragon* Personally, I think Dark, Psychic, and Electric/Ice are the strongest. *wishes they come out with a Dark/Psychic type in D/P*

Answer's no, for the same reasons that are given above.

The strongest type to me is STEEL {metagross} , they have high defense and lots of resistance. I'm looking forward to Rukario, having Fighting as a sub-type, it's cool. NORMAL {slaking} types are also strong in a way, with only Fighting as a weakness, and they can learn almost any move, thus having a very good moveset.

Wonder wat would happen if they do come out with a Dragon/Ice type, or a Dragon + <a type resist Ice> , or a fat Dragon with "Thick Fat"????

IFERNO dude i see your point, but think of them against pokemon besides dragon and ice.

What about {dragonite} he can protect himself.thats why i say hes the strongest dragon.

or think about {kingdra} his only weakness is dragon.yet he acts like a water and ice. {dragonite} can protect himself from {kingdra}. think about that?

Read swift53's post. It's all there, and I doubt it is susceptible to any kind of discussion. It is illogical that there should be a stronger type of pokemon, don't you think? Teams of that single type would make the game utterly easy and boring. Pokemon battles are mainly about strategy, so it is only logical that no type is stronger than the rest.

There's no doubt dragon pokemon are fun to use.
(< 3 Mmm Dragonite.)

But, let's face it.
Ice beam is a really popular move and, as other have stated before, most dragon types have a 4x weakness against it.

(:
They're probably strongest stat-wise, though.

If you examine typing, you can draw several conclusions about the qualities of types in general (without examining pokemon that include those types).

1) Steel is quite possible the best type. The numbers speak fro themselves: 1 Immunity, 11 Resistances, 3 Weakness. It's so damned powerful they had to create an ability just for countering it (IE Magnet Pull).
2) Defensively speaking, either electric or ghost is probably next, with electric having 3 resistances and only 1 weakness (though a weakness to ground is pretty bad given the prevalence of earthquake) and Ghost having 2 immunities (normal being an extremely valuable one defensively), 2 resistances, and 2 weaknesses.
3) Following those would be fire (5 resistances, 3 weaknesses), water (4 resistances, 2 weaknesses), poison (4 resistances, 2 weaknesses), and dragon (4 resistances, 2 weaknesses). Upon examining each of these based on which types they have immunity, resistances, and weaknesses to as well as examining the value of their offensive (IE which STAB is the most useful) potentials, poison is probably the weakest of the bunch, with the numerous types that resist poison and the fact that its only strength is against grass types which are usually dual poison and therefore gain a resistance anyway. The other three all have the same amount of offensive strengths and weaknesses (fire 4, water 4, and dragon 1), but in my opinion fire is probably the next weakest due to its vulnerability to the oh so common earthquake. Between dragon and water, although it's probably a toss up, I think dragon is the stronger type because of its resistances to fire, water, electric, and grass and the fact that only one type (steel) resists dragon type attacks (good for general sweeping, but don't look for too much super effectiveness).
4) Next one on the list would be flying with 1 immunity (immunity to ground is clutch), 3 resistances, and 3 weaknesses.
5) By far the worst typing (not to offend anyway) defensively is Ice, weighting in with a disgraceful 4 weaknesses to only 1 resistance (itself).

In terms of pokemon actually in the game and their usefulness, I would say water and steel take the cake.
Steel has weapons such as Metagross (this things a freakin beast), Skarm (only the most dominant physical wall in the game), Forretress (another of the most dominant physical walls in the game), Steelix (only one of the top two physical walls in the BL/UU metagame), and Magneton (the single best and probably only reliable counter for the above stated physical walls).
When it comes to water, maybe it's just the sheer number of water pokemon in the game, but there always seems to be a water type pokemon near the front of the pack in every role. For physical walls in OU you have Suicune (one of the best non-steel physical walls in OU, the other probably being Donphan), in UU you have Cloyster and Slowbro (cloyster being quite possibly the only really good non-steel type spiker, and slowbro being the BL/UU equivalent of Calmcune). For special walls in OU you have your Ludicolo (If it weren't for Bliss and Snorlax, this would probably be the special wall of choice) and in UU you have Mantine (only less used because of that nasty 4x electric weakness) and Tentacruel (you can read my analysis of this sweet pokemon in the Netbattle section). You have surely also heard of the "bulky water type", a category which includes but is not limited to Swampert, Milotic, Vaporeon and some of the above walls in OU and Quagsire, Lanturn, Walrein, Whiscash, and Lapras in UU. For sweeping, you've got the ever devastating Tauntadros (one of the few non-dragon DDers) as one of the more deadly P-sweepers in the game (and Tentacruel in UU with its swordsdance/sludge bomb combination as well as Poliwrath with Bellydrum/salac in UU) and you've got Starmie and the numerous Swift Swimmers for dangerous special sweeping both in UU and OU. IMO, no other single type brings more to the table than Water in terms of actual pokemon choices (not even steel).

Like others have said, there is no strongest type.

All types have strengths and weaknesses, and not only that but a pokemon's effectiveness is also measured largley by the attacks it knows.
Each attack type has a trait that distinguishes it from the others, and the only way to make a good team is to incorporate a wide spread of these types into your team-

1.fire- burns the enemy

2.ice- freezes the enemy

3.electric- paralyzes the enemy

4.psychic- high accuracy with the chance of confusion or stat loss

5.rock- slightly lower accuracy than the other types, but makes up for it with a higher base damage.

6.steel- similar to rock with lowered accuracy but higher attack power, also have the chance of lowering your opponents stats or raising your own.

7.water- accurate, generally high-powered attacks, not many side effects, save for speed loss(bubble, bubblebeam) and confusion(water pulse).

8.grass- damaging attacks are fewer in number than other types, but has a wide range of condition-altering techniques.

9.dragon- no resistances(bar steel) make this type effective against any enemy.

10.ground- very powerful attacks, with only a slight drop in accuracy(as opposed to rocks greater loss).

11.poison- inflict the foe with poison and gain bonus damage throughout the match.

12.ghost- varied and unsual techniques with numerous effects.

13.dark- attacks that prevent your opponent from fighting/fleeing/healing or even letting you steal the enemies next move etc, basically dark attacks screw up your enemies strategy.

14.bug- similar to grass but not as wide-spread. side effects range from confusion(signal beam) to stat increase(silver wind) to just pure damage(megahorn).

15.fighting- pure, raw physical damage, reasonably high accuracy with almost no side effects.

16.normal- whilst not super-effective to any type, normal attacks are the most numerous in the game and cover the effects of almost all the other types(healing,stat-change,damage,condition-altering etc).

17.flying- high accuracy with decent power, no side-effects.

I'd have to say the best pokemon would have to be miltank.

Only weakness is fighting and has a 105 base Def probably as good as you can get without being legendary.

I think the logical conclusion to this discussion would be that there is no "best" type; each type has its own strengths and weaknesses, and even the mighty Dragon types are taken down easily by Ice moves. It was enjoyable reading the analyses of the various types done by some members, but I'm afraid the discussion has gone a little off topic.

I'll rename the title to suit the discussion of the pros and cons of each type, but keep in mind that you have to compare the types when you post. Just telling us that "the Poison type is the best! yay!" isn't sufficient.

the Poison type is the best! yay! :P

On the topic of poisons, I think poison types are generally UU and I haven't really given that type much thought. They often are able to learn ghost or dark moves which takes care of psychics and grass moves to deal with ground types.

Basically I think that because everyone had a Mewtwo on their team in RBY, poisons got very little attention at the start of the franchise (similar to fighting types, until dark and steel appeared). Also, poisons didn't have any good STAB moves until GSC created sludge bomb.

Right now, out of the type combinations we have, I would have to say that, defensively, Kingdra is the best Pokemon type (Water/Dragon). It has no weaknesses except Dragon, and most people don't use Dragon attacks because they suck, and it can use Dragon attacks itself to strike back at a Dragon.

Charizard is not Fire/Dragon for a very good reason: Because it would be too much ownage, it would be like a Kingdra (only weakness = Dragon), except with amazing offensive attacks and great stats.

You can't go by number of weaknesses because then sableye is the best with no weaknesses and 3 immunities. Type combinations may help, however, in the long run, stats matter most.

Speaking of Dragons.... Is it wise to keep Dragonair unevolved so it won't wet all the flying weaknesses? Specially electric.

If I remember correctly, Dragon is resistant to electric, so if a Dragon/Flying got hit with an Electric attack, the attack'd do the normal amount of damage. It's Ice ya want to watch for.

And I say evolve it. Dragonair's my fave Dragon type, but I evolved mine...Dragonite can learn more moves (Including Dragon Claw, a LOT better than Twister)...

Sableye has no weaknesses whatsoever! Only fighting type moves coupled with foresight/odour sleuth can cause a weakness. Only problem is, Sableye is weaker than a 1000-year-old man with arthiritis and no limbs. Sableye has low attack and special attack, and every time I used it at the Battle Frontier, it died.
