Post subject:  Regarding Locking of Topics

Topics are locked for several reasons:

1. The question in the topic has already been answered.
2. The discussion has gone off-topic, or has no more room for intelligent discussion.
3. A similar topic exists elsewhere. In this case a link will usually be provided.
4. The topic is in the wrong place. For example, "Rate my Team" threads are instantly locked, because rating should be done in the Rating Centre.
5. Useless necromancy that adds nothing to the topic.

That's about all for now. However, here's what you can do if you find a locked topic that should be re-opened, either because you need more opinions from other users, or the answers to the question asked are not satisfactory, or it may be because there is still room for discussion. PM one of the mods and request politely for them to re-open the topic. If possible, provide the link(s). In addition, try to provide some reasons as to why the topic should be re-opened.

Have a nice day :D

regarding this, snowball, ive noticed that there are tons of pages of threads in the "Hoenn Generation". is there any way the mods can delete those threads, because most of those pages are locked topics.

Um, ANM, don't do Necromacy. It's frowned upon.

You aren't the Moderator, and I believe I found somewhere that Stickies and Announcements aren't as heavily Moderated for Necromancy. This is due because of the content of the sticky/announcement.

The only reason I shouldn't get in trouble for telling you this, is because I also helped that other user, and am telling you this as a fellow person.

Back on top, the topics are not locked so people can look at them for reference, however n00bs today aren't smart enough to click on a link that says, "Next Page". But that is the reason.

Sorry, I have been busy with school the past two days or so. Anyway, there are two reasons why these locked topics are not deleted. Firstly, it's there for future reference, so people don't end up creating new threads to ask past questions. The problem is, many members don't look through the forums to find the solution, nor do they make use of the Search function to look for similar threads; they just post new threads. In that case, we can direct them to the old threads to save time on answering their questions. So these old topics have their uses actually.

The second and more obvious reason is that many members do care about their post count. As such, repeatedly deleting posts isn't going to please the members. Locking up solves the problem. Spam can't be posted, and soon the locked-up topics will get "pushed" to the back few pages of the forum, and won't clutter up the forum space.

You can't, but you can get a moderator to lock it for you. PM a moderator of the forum in which you have a topic which needs to be locked. In the PM, you should provide a link to that thread, and also explain clearly why it should be locked.

The same guideline applies for topics which are locked and which you want to be unlocked.

GGGRZZ... A lot of mods lock topics with no post saying why. It really bugs me.

If there is no post explaining why, it could be because it is already apparent that the topic should be locked, probably because the question being asked in the topic has already been answered. If you think a locked topic should be re-opened, you can approach a moderator to enquire.
