So, I know Krisp posted a topic in the GSC forum with regards to the dead battery, but I figured I'd post a similar document here. The document is NOT mine, just posting it. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxcW3HA ... n_US&pli=1Triwing screw drivers ARE available on eBay. (And, some of the internet sites do have it incorrect - there is ABSOLUTELY NO BATTERY IN FIRE RED AND LEAF GREEN)

By now, most of the games (after 8-10 years) have dried out their little watch batteries. They need to be replaced, or you can't grow salac / petaya / liechi / pamtre berries for function.
Although, it does lead to some nice things, like reaching Mirage Island (as the RNG stops regenerating new numbers).

It's a glitch, they don't need to be replaced. The Third Gen carts saved to flash memory. The only thing to do is to restart the game. Source: Krisp's post about halfway through a topic that is about the same to this one, five or so topics down.

Well. yeah. My Emerald is still perfectly fine. Although that's not something. My Blue is fine too. My Gold on the other hand is dead for 4 years. But I thought that all Gen III games had flash memory?

Samurrott, Krisp wrote: As far as I'm aware there is no fix for this on your current file. The only way to fix this is to restart. In my experience replacing the battery indeed makes the clock keep track of time once again but it causes a glitch that stops time events. Once the battery IS replaced, the file needs to be restarted. UNTIL the battery is replaced, nothing having to do with the clock, not tides, not the ones who give you berries, or TMs, will occur. ChillBill - the battery used to act as a memory bank for the save file, and in GSC, a clock as well. While the RSE cartridges now contain flash memory for the save files, the batteries are necessary for whatever timed events still occur - berry growth, TM stuff, Eeveelutions, Tides.

So replacing an RSE battery doesn't require you to restart the file? Sorry if that's stupid, but I'm a bit boggled here...

Even if your battery have no more power, you can still play with your current game, it won't be erased. So if you remove the battery it won't modify your game file!

Oh, that's good. Guess I don't have to be anxious of losing my 800hrs save file.
