If you breed two Pikachu or two Raichu, with one parent holding a Light Ball, the baby Pichu will know Volt Tackle.

psypokes.. you sure you did not just breed with one of parent knowing Volt Tackle? :?
Because i think it sounds more logical with breeding for volt tackle, than just give an item...

That sounds kinda like giving an Aggron an Iron Ball, breed it with another Aggron, and you got a random baby Aron knowing Iron Tail.

I've done it in the past. You really did need a pikachu holding a light ball to get the move.

You need a Light Ball. There is no debate here.

It's been a while since I touched the old games, but iirc, Volt Tackle was only available through breeding in emerald (and later versions). If you're breeding in Ruby or Sapphire it won't work.

This is a long shot but, which parent is holding the Light Ball, I think it matters though I am not sure as I never owned Emerald?...

i read on bulbapedia that it doesn't matter which gender holds it. It also works if you breed with a ditto.

okay that is just wierd that it actually worked this time, but did not last time i tried :?

anyway... does this work in other games too, like HGSS? or is it only in Emerald it works?

EDIT: i just checked techdex/pokedex and found out it works for other games too :):)

Maybe i did try it out on ruby/sapphire since it was not working there according to a post somewhere higher up .. ^^ :P

I figured I would be wrong but it's good that it finally worked, guess that answers the question then or whatever...
