hey folks, first post here. i signed up cus i thought i could find some help making myself a team for my recently obtained Pokémon Emerald, and i figured some opinions could be real helpful. i have played and beaten both Ruby and Sapphire in the past, but i realised i left myself rather closed when it came to choosing a pokémon team. therefore, i'm building a team out of those i have never used before. so name your favorite pokémon to use and you favorite moveset with it! i'll post what i have so far

Swampert
Surf (WATER)
Icebeam (ICE)
Earthquake (GROUND)
Brickbreak (FIGHTING)

Aron till Lvl 44, then evolve for TM choices
Headbutt (NORMAL)
Iron Tail (STEEL)
Metal Sound (STEEL)
Shockwave (ELECTRIC)

Numel/Camerupt
Take Down (NORMAL)
Rock Slide (ROCK)
Eruption (FIRE)

i've only ever raised the Swampert before, and i've yet to decide on Camerupts 4th move. HMs aren't a worry, as i'll set up a couple of HM pokémon for necessities, with a few exceptions, such as Swampert using Surf.

Overall not a good selection of types, a good water type such as Milotic would easily take care of all 3 of your pokemon (you fight one at Sootopolis Gym). Try getting rid of numel/camerupt and instead choose a Psychic type such as Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir so that it would be able to learn Thunderbolt and also take care of Grass types that are effective against Swampert.

However, as you post you ask for my favorite pokemon which, surprisingly, is...

Milotic-Modest-Leftovers

Surf- Ice Beam- Toxic- Recover

And also, though you don't get till after Elite Four...

Metagross-Adamant-Kings Rock

Meteor Mash(obviously)- Earthquake- Brick Break- Rock Slide

that milotic actually sounds pretty tough. keep in mind, i'm trying to make a 6 pokémon team XD i'd only picked 3 so far. i'ev been playing through, just beat norma and got rid of a couple of pokémon i found to be of little use. i got rid of shedinja, because ever since i evolved it, it's not been able to win a single battle due to the variety of ways to break its wonderguard ability, and the other is Ninjask, who, whilst he's fast and tough, he can take about as many hits as Shedinja x_x

on the other hand, i have recently caught myself a Ralts, and i intend to experiment with her. i've never raised a psychic type before, so, suggestions for her would be good, unless she's a poor choice to begin with.

i'll also try out that Metagross. by the way, the build i'm making for my swampert allows him to easily handle the elite four single handedly the moment he can learn earthquake. the Ice Beam beautifully tears through Drake's lot, Brick Break turns Glacia's lot into slushies, and surf and earthquake shatter Sydney and phoebe :D

anyways, any other recommendations for pokémon, please post theme here folks! i'm especially interested in trying out obscure pokémon. those that most ignore but turn out surprisingly good.

thanks for the tips :3

a great gen 3 poke that often gets overlooked is alteria. not a sweeper but a very sturdy poke with a great moveset.
