I know there's an EV training guide for Diamond and Pearl, but given the changes to the Pokedex and Pokemon locations, shouldn't there be an EV guide for Platinum as well?

...Also, I thought that a possibility for the EV training guides would be to suggest places to train, rather than Pokemon to fight.
A place where all of the wild Pokemon (or almost all of them) hand out the same EVs, and it doesn't matter what Pokemon you're facing in battle, would be an ideal place to train. For example, walking in the Magma Hideout in Emerald, or fishing with the Super Rod along Route 229 in Platinum - they're great places to train for EVs, because you're sure to gain EVs for a particular stat.

I would also like to see this, I have problems training stuff like HP (No Woopers/Quagsire's on the route by Pastoria), so this would be nice for those of us who EV train on Platinum.

I typically train on Bidoof / Starly with my pokemon holding Power items. (I use berries to remove unwanted HP/Spe EVs).

I prefer not to use Berries, but simply to train in places where I can gain the right EVs.
Why waste EV points by earning the wrong ones? :?

I've trained in all the stats on Platinum, so I'll tell you where I train.

I train for HP on Route 212 during rain, where Shellos and Quagsire account for three out of four encounters.
For Attack, there's the pond on Route 229 (all Gyarados and Seaking, 2 Attack EVs each for each one).
For Defence there's the Ruin Maniac Cave, with mostly Geodude inside.
Special Attack is easy (Old Chateau, all Gastly).
Special Defence... best to surf north of Sunnyshore, and fight wild Tentacruel and Mantyke.
Speed is easy too (Snowpoint Temple, mostly Golbat).

They may not be the most efficient places to train, but they are the most convenient, because I don't have any Power items yet. Fortunately, I do have some Pokemon that can spread Pokerus, which has proven to be a huge help.

Those are great places :) The only reason I don't go to areas like those are because the pokemon are higher leveled, meaning that to use Power Items I have to either switch pokemon every battle or level up the pokemon I'm training before hand (and remove its EVs). Exp Share is an option, of course, but not necessarily the fastest one. With +4 (or +8 with PKRS) extra EVs in the stat of your choice from Starly and Bidoof, battles are both fast and rewarding. Growing EV reduction berries takes little time anyways.

If you need to get the Power Items, just defeat the Tower Tycoon (or whatever the Battle Tower 20 wins guy is called) repeatedly, as each win yields more than enough BP to get a Power Item.

I see what you mean. With a Power item and Pokerus, it'd only take ten vitamins and 19 battles to get any stat to 252 EVs.
I have a few Pokemon at lv50 that I migrated from my Emerald game, so maybe I'll give the Battle Tower a shot. Thanks for the tip!

As for getting EVs from wild Pokemon in certain places, there's more than one "best way" to decide where to fight. There is the issue of convenience (how easy it is to get back to a Poke Center to replenish your Pokemon's PP), how many Pokemon you have to run from (because having to run away is a pain in the neck, especially if you're using the Poke Radar to chain for shinies while you're raising your Pokemon), and the average EVs you'll earn per battle (that is to say, how fast you'll gain EVs from fighting wild Pokemon, bearing in mind how many EVs they award).

I just wish there was a section for Platinum on the Sinnoh World Map. :?

I think something that would be really useful is a complete list of what EV's are given from every pokemon, then I could pick and choose the spots that I need to train in, and could also battle trainers, albeit, having to switch out a bunch.

The Psydex lists all the EVs for every pokemon; I compiled the EV data a while back. The list is made from the Psypokes data, using a downloader program, so it should be correct. I also have a "EVTracker" program that has an user interface for EV training, that uses the given data.

Note: if the mods want to move the list elsewhere due to the size, please do.

That's useful data. :)

The best way to arrange it, though, is not by alphabetical order or Pokemon number, but by the type of EVs awarded and (secondarily) the number of EVs awarded. Then you can compare a list of in-game Trainers and their Pokemon to the EV list, and know who to fight to get the right EVs.

Good idea - list updated.

There is a pond in the Resort Area where you only encounter Magikarp. Magikarp awards 1 speed EV. So it would take awhile but that is a place your sure to raise your speed EV.
