I just started a new game since I wanted Swampert, and I was thinking if I should keep swablu in my team untill I can get Bagon. Is Swablue worth training?

i guess salamence is better

you should maybe have tanky pokemon in your team 2..
why not get both ?

Salamence is probably better, howver, you get Swablu earlier in the game. Altaria also isn't a bad pokemon for in-game teams, though IIRC it's UU competitively.

Go for it. It's certainly not as good as some of the other similar Pokemon listed, and I think it is underused competitively, but hey it's always fun to make use of underrated or underused Pokemon imo. Moreover, Altaria has a pretty good movepool and has the stats to support it.

Even with high special defence, you need to watch out for opponents with ice attacks such as Ice Beam... it could take out a whole chunk of Altaria's HP or KO it in one hit.

Yes , it is worth training, because it can learn sky attack if you keep training it up. But beware, better you train sp.def EV for it, because sky attack will attack on the 2nd turn. So if your opponent used ice beam, there's a chance you'll still survive.

Altaria is strong and nice-looking so it's definitely a good choice to train. Equipped with certain strong stats, it is worth training it.

Heck, I think is worth having in your team just because it's so cute... but here's another factor to bear in mind.
At first, is very difficult to train, but the higher its level goes, the easier it gets. Overall, it's one of the easiest Pokemon to raise - it only needs 600,000 EXP to reach level 100. At level 99, it only takes 10,000 more EXP to gain its last level (whereas with starters, that figure is about 30,000).
It also evolves into at level 35, whereas and both evolve into their final forms at higher levels.
I can tell you from experience that it is worth raising this Pokemon, because my was my first Pokemon to reach level 100, and it's very strong. Mine has a sweeping moveset, but is just as good as a sponge - as long as you watch out for Ice Beam.

Altaria and Salamence differ. Greatly.
On the order of defenses, Altaria > Salamence.
On the order of Special Sweeper, Altaria > Salamence (Ice beam + HP Electric > Crunch + HP Electic/Ice, ftw)
On the order of coolest strategy, Altaria > Salamencee (switch out after resting/status, and you are cured).
But why is salamence usually preffered?
1.) Its so fast and strong, it kills before being killed.
2.) Better physical stats and movepool.
3.) Intimidate supports the rest of the team (lead with the mence, and then switch first turn).
If they stay in, they have a lowered attack
If they switch out, well, you have a free switch.
Works out great.
Personally, I like swablu/altaria (lol, Gardevoir~ spelled it sawable in a trivia - always cracks me up) - its a change in the game.
And, if you are indeed switching out later, there's no loss.

It just depends on the stats. But generally, Salamence has higher stats than Altaria. Even then, if you want to get Salamence, you've got a long way to go from when you caught it...

I don't know about Salamence, I haven't evolved my Bagon that far. But I do think Altaria is worth it. It's really a pain to get to it though, because I found Swablu took forever to level up.

um...according to the Psydex, its experience curve is 600,000, the lowest.

A bunch of more pecks can knowck out those ground type pokemon in the desert...

I know. That's why I found it so weird. I just found that when I was playing, I never ran into any Pokemon that were weak against Swablu. Seedot and Nuzleaf were rare on that route. I mostly ran into other Swablu, and I wanted to level up before I moved on. So I ended up putting it in first, and then switching it out...so it took forever. But was worth it in the end.

What level was that at? The easiest leveling curves actually take longer than the higher curves at low levels, but take much shorter overall. So, be patient, and it'll get there.

Swablu was VERY difficult for me to train, but once it got to the experience factor where he/she could become an Altaria, right before Winona's gym, my Altaria became very useful. They're pretty, too.
