woohoo i just beat the battle pyramid. and got my gold symbol for it :) :) :)

my team

{starmie} @ bright powder
surf, psychic, thunderbolt, ice beam

{metagross} @ choice band
earthquake, meteor mash, brick break, arial ace

{blissey} @ leftovers
thunderwave, seismic toss, aromatherapy, softboiled

sometimes i replace metagross with

{salamence} @ choice band
earthquake, rock slide, brick break, arial ace

depending on what the girl on the right says will be inside the pyramid. pretty straight forward strategy really.

now i have all silver symbols, plus gold for battle pyramid and battle dome. does anyone have more?

about a week, on and off of course. ive cleared another 2 rounds now, and im aiming for 100 levels. once you get a good strategy its not so hard. oh, sorry if it is the wrong section. this is just about the only section i post in, apart from the other generations section where i like to rant and rave about mystery dungeon.....

has anyone had success with other buildings?

EDIT: i did another two rounds on the bus, so thats 98 levels. it definitely doesnt seem to get any harder. salamence looks like a good pokemon to put in the number 1 slot since its intimidate lowers the rate of "wild" pokemon appearing. it also improves your chances in battles. if you see someone who you think will get you with ice you switch to blissey, and even if they have a physical move, intimidate lowers the damage.

by the way, "wild" seems like the wrong word for the pokemon in the battle pyramid. most of them seem to know TMs and HMs, and sometimes even the odd move tutor move. i was gobsmacked to get surfed by a hariyama!

EDIT AGAIN: thats weird. i went through again (105 levels now) and the pyramid king dude was there again. same team - {articuno} {zapdos} {moltres}.

another thing. the running away rules seem to be different here. for example, sometimes my (lvl 100) starmie cant run away, even from slow things like venusaurs. its timid, and has perfect EVs and DVs for speed (so its speed stat is the max 361).

Congratulations :D . I still need the battle pyramid, arena and factory gold symbols to coplete everything . Im too lazy to keep trying at the pyramid, to unlucky to win at the factory and my pokemon arent good for the battle arena. (The usually need to power up first).

In the battle dome and palace I got the 42 battles in a row the first time I tried, (didn't lost a single time). I lost once in the battle pike. And I lost > 100 times in the tower and tried 1000 diferent teams before I managed to beat anabel in the 70th battle, the worst lost was against a cursing tyranitar in the battle 66, ONLY FOUR BATTLES AWAY!!!!!!!.

wow!! thats a lot!!! :) :)

so, what was your strategy in the battle palace? did you just pick pokes with the right natures and give them all out attacking moves?

the battle tower seems so be pretty hard. i can usually get up to about the 7th or 8th round. but i always get dudded by a rhyhorn going first (with quick claw) and getting me with a OHKO move just before i can surf it! or something else dodgey like that. it might just be a matter of persistence. what team did you use for that one?

EDIT: cool - i just beat the battle pike :) thats 3 gold symbols now. i used the same team as the battle pyramid (with salamence, not metagross). it wasnt as hard as i expected. last time i think i died because i kept trying to kill sceptiles with my starmie's icebeam, and then getting killed by leaf blade. i was a bit smarter with switching out this time......

im just gonna go kamikaze now and see how far i can get by just randomly going through the middle door every time.

Hey you got an avatar :D , I guess Im the only person without one now.

The battle palace team....incredible coincidence....I used your starmie with lefties and protect instead of ice beam, your salamence with lum and protect instead of brick break and choice band metagross with shadow ball over aerial ace.

The Hasty nature I used likes to attack 61% when is in normal health and > 90% when its Hp is down, wich means that with regular HP your pokemon has a 30% chance of "not being able to use ots power", thats why a supportive move (protect or a stat uper move) is necesary; with hasty nature and a supportive move your pokemon only has like 5% chance of screwing things up.

For the battle tower I just copied the idea of the most overused pokemon in netbattle: the skarm-bliss combo, just send skarm against physical sweepers and tanks, and blissey against specials.

Rhyhorns and nidokings with quick claw and horn drill are incredibly annoying too, How do the manage to pull a 3% chance of working strategy?, the battle frontier cheats.

lol.... yeah i hate it when it CHEATS

but thats a good strategy with the protect stuff. i noticed an explanation of sorts on this website, but didnt find those stats. where did you get your information?

im running through the battle tower now with a brute force team. if it doesnt work ill try my nicely prepared skarmbliss combo.

my metagross used to have shadow ball, but i found i wanted a move which wasnt affected by double team. i came up against a machamp with double team, attract, substitute, focus punch. i think i was using latios at the time. my first psychic didnt hit it and it used double team. i never hit it again......

and yeah, i finally got an avatar. my favourite pokemon of all is my {snorlax} called CUDDLES :) :) :)

i like the idea of using hasty. also interesting is gentle - might be good for a dragon dancing salamence. 70% chance of using dragon dance while it is healthy but when it loses health 90% chance of attacking. its crazy that its all up to chance, but i guess it is for the opponents pokemon too. gentle might also work for endure/reversal.

ive gone through 6 rounds at the battle tower with my brute force team - starmie (lum), salamence (choice band), curselax (lefties).....

EDIT: woohoo!!! i finished the battle tower with starmie, salemence, and snorlax. the last battle against the salon maiden was pretty tough - they had hax-to-the-max!!! critical hits, me knocking them down to 1hp and then them using rest etc. but luckily i got through it. man, i would have been so annoyed if i got knocked out at the 70th battle!! garabato, you have inspired me to work at the battle frontier. 3 more gold symbols to go now. probably ill try the battle arena next, and then try raising a team for the battle pallace. im definitely gonna leave the battle factory for last since i really dont like it that much. i can never seem to get beyond about 30 battles.....

by the way, how many points have you accumulated while doing the challenges? ive got about 550 at the moment, but my trainer card says i have earned over 800 in total.

Wow, that seems like a lot of battle points man, I have only earned 583. Good luck at the arena, the not being able to switch thing always makes me lose :( .

yeah, thats what im trying now. ive switched my snorlax for a latios for the third spot. its annoying when my starmie dies quickly and i have to choose what salamence will do - choice band is a risky strategy which i might just have to throw out the window for the arena. and not being able to switch out is particularly annoying when my starmie gets up against a chansey (or worse, a blissey). i might have to think about going the annoying option. maybe an umbreon with confuse ray, double team, moonlight, something like that. but i hate basing strategy on luck. it cant keep going for 70 battles!!

i lost a battle there this morning (about the 35th or so) when a scizor got a stat raise on silver wind. the move itself KO'ed my starmie. then salamence came in and beat him to the first move - i earthquaked him and got him to about 5hp and he steel winged me and took off 60% of my health. and then..... his quick claw got him the first turn and he steel winged me to death. so i thought my latios will be way faster than him, and surely his quick claw wont work again, but sure enough it did, and silver wind killed me, and i had to start again!!

this morning i got the gold symbol for the battle palace!! my team:

{starmie} @ leftovers
natural cure, lvl 50
hasty: 252 sp att, 252 spd, 6 hp
surf
psychic
ice beam
protect

{salamence} @ scope lens
intimidate, lvl 50
hasty: 252 att, 252 spd, 6 hp
earthquake
rock slide
arial ace
protect

{sceptile} @ lum berry
overgrow, lvl 50
hasty: 252 sp att, 252 spd, 6 hp
leaf blade
crunch
thunder punch
protect

simple strategy. leave a pokemon in if you think it is stronger than the opponent, and switch it otherwise. as noted by garabato, the hasty nature works like this:

with high hp: attacks 58%, protects 37%, incapable of using its power 5%
with low hp: attacks 88%, protects 6%, incapable of using its power 6%.

so when any of their health is high, they will most likely attack but, if they dont want to attack, at least they can protect themselves. when their health is low they just go all out and attack. the only annoying thing is when they try and protect like 4 times in a row. it occasionally has worked 3 times in a row, but ive never seen it work 4 time in a row. this is offset of course because the opponents often do stupid things like rest when their hp is full, etc. its also annoying when, for example, my salamence uses protect when the enemy is a blissey who uses softboiled to come back from like 5hp. no!!!!! it always took a bit of luck to get past blisseys.

i got past the 42nd battle, and got the gold symbol, and then lost the 43rd when a slowbro kept getting to go first from quick claw!!! oh well, better after the symbol than before!!

thanks for your suggestions garabato - i couldnt have done it without you i dont think. especially the hasty nature, and the move protect. cheers!!!!!

next on my list is the battle arena which i am currently trying - on about the 35th battle with the same team as battle palace.

Thanks and yes I haven't bothered but it is because it is so long!!! and I have terrible orientation abilities.

What strategy are you planing to use on the arena? I have been thinking a lot about it lately. Those pokeon that need to power up first doesn't work (only three turns) and choice banders are risky because you cant switch out; so its prettty bad when the oponent sends out something resistant or inmune to you and you are stuck using the same move until you die.

Therefore, I intend to use one of the animals usually called "powerhouses" I have been thinking about a quiet tyranitar with EQ-Thunderbolt-Ice beam-Crunch/flamethrower. This goes super effective on many things and theoricaly it "should" work because you get points in the arena just for going super efective on the other.

I also have been thinking about annoyers like umbreon, something with a "skill" move (curse or double team) an annoyer move (confuse ray or toxic) and a recovery move (rest or moonlight) this thing is bulky enough to make it to the third turn, and slow enough to recover after the oponent makes its move; theoricly, it should be able to win in the "skill" and "body" categories.

For the last spot, Im going to try something I have always wanted to use here, an Articuno with the old mind reader/sheer cold tactic; this bird has enough tanky stats to take a few pokemon with it. What do you think?

Anyway I will post the results, and if you manage to beat greeta please tell me how you did it.

Uggh don't even get me started on Greta. I got all of the Silver Symbols a week or two ago. I have just no luck getting any Gold Symbols. It is so frustrating to do so. My usual team is:

{metagross}Adamant|@Lum Berry
~Meteor Mash
~Earth Quake
~Shadow Ball
~Sludge Bomb

{heracross}Brave|@Salac Berry
~Mega Horn
~Earth Quake
~Endure
~Reversal

{armaldo}Adamant|@Quick Claw
~Aerial Ace
~Swords Dance
~Ancient Power
~Earth Quake

{gengar}Modest|@Sitrus Berry
~Thunder Bolt
~Giga Drain
~Destiny Bond
~Psychic

I am not training a new Heracross just so it can have Adamant Nature. As long as Brave Raises Attack I am fine with it. Got the Salac off of XD and cloned a whole bunch. Right now I am trying to get Gold on the Battle Dome. Sometimes I switch Armaldo out for Gengar.

OK then some quick advice. Start off at the Battle Pike. It is by far the easiest place at the Battle Frontier.

im thinking of bringing in some of my older pokes i havent used for a while.

{sceptile} with leech seed, leaf blade, substitute, and something else (dragon claw?)

{blaziken} with endure, reversal, EQ, flamethrower

something else. maybe tyranitar? we'll see how it goes. in particular, i like the idea of leech seed since even if sceptile goes down, the leech seed keeps working.

ok ive come up with a team which is working quite well. i used to go

1. special sweeper
2. physical sweeper
3. special sweeper

but im now going physical, special, physical:

1. {heracross} jolly, swarm, choice band
megahorn, brick break, earthquake, rock slide

2. {starmie} timid, natural cure, lum berry
surf, psychic, ice beam, thunderbolt

3. {salamence} jolly, intimidate, kings rock
dragon dance, arial ace, earthquake, rock slide

i dont know why i never thought of hera before. with stab and choice band, megahorn does 270 damage. so even if the enemy resists it it will do 135 and thats not bad, coming off a pretty good attack stat. i would have been happier with guts for the battle arena, but this one has perfect DVs for defence and special defence. in fact it has perfect special attack DVs also unfortunately, but is a bit lacking in attack, hp, and speed - these are each about 10 or so. cant complain - it survived 2 arial aces from a mantine which was very weird.

anyway, this team is going very well. ill let you know how it pans out. by the way, the kings rock is just so if my salamence gets up against an ice type it might get that flinch it so desparately needs!

EDIT: it worked a beauty!! heracross is just so powerful. now i have 6 gold stars....
