Okay, is there some trick to this headbutting thing? I'm trying to get Heracross and Pineco, but they never seem to fall out of the trees I headbutt it, and Pokemon hardly seem to fall out at all. Any tips on headbutting? Before resetting my Gold game I remember getting a Pineco and it was not that rare to find, as well as Heracross.
HELP!!!

As previously stated, there is no real "trick" to Headbutting, however I do have a method so that I don't waste time.
If you Headbutt a certain tree about five times, and at least three out of those five times you encounter a Pokemon, then it's a good tree and you should stick with that one for a while.
On the other hand, if your rate of encounter is less than three out of five, you should just move on and try another tree.

You can check out Pineco's and Heracross's psydex page to see those encounter chances.

Thank you! I have successfully caught a Pineco (now a Forettress) and a Heracross.
Miasma's right. The trees kinda work like the slots in the game. One will keep giving you Pokemon a majority of the time.

In gold - one of the tree's on the little island outside mt mortar will always give heracross (except at night)
also, one of the tree's (the most right one) next to the north-east entrace/exit to the bug catching contest always gives pineco
And then of course, every single tree in the region gives them, but those two tree's always give those poke's (except at night)
