HOW TO CATCH MEWTWO

1. Catch and and /{haunter}/{gengar}.
2. Train until it learns Grudge (Lvl 37).
2.5. If you are planning to do the Vulpix Experiment, PREPARE.
3. Go fight with first in your party.
3.5. At this point you could try the Vulpix Experiment (see below)
4. Use Grudge. Note that Grudge works somewhat like Destiny Bond, the chance of it working is highest if Mewtwo kills you RIGHT AFTER you use it.
5. will eventually kill you. When he does, the attack that dealt the death blow will have no PP left. If Swift is Grudged out, switch out for . If Psychic is Grudged out, switch out for /{haunter}/{gengar}.
6. Start chucking balls with absolutely no fear of being KO'ed! Mewtwo has a total of 75 PP in his moves. Grudging out Swift and Psychic would produce 55 PP and 65 PP respectively. Therefore you only need to bring 65 Ultra Balls, unless you want to continue through the Struggle stage with a High-Def pokemon, in which case you should bring more.

Disclaimer:

This plan has been tested, tweaked, and has only one flaw, namely Struggle. It was designed for LG players but is also applicable to FR. (Use instead of .) Mainly applies to players who cannot or do not wish to trade with Hoenn. Another alternative is to use right from the start. And if it fails, the only remedy is to start again.

UPDATE 2/8/2005:

I caught my own Mewtwo ovet the weekend, and while I was at it I tried a few experiments with Vulpix. Here's the Vulpix Experiment which you could use to add some spice to this somewhat boring Mewtwo-catching method.

THE VULPIX EXPERIMENT:

Get a Vulpix with Will-o-Wisp (WoW) and Confuse Ray (CRay).
Attach a Quick Claw to it.
When you fight Mewtwo, use CRay straight away.
If you go first, you can get there before he uses Safeguard. Then if you're lucky, he will either hurt himself or try to use Recover.
Now use Wow. Then if you're lucky again he will use Safeguard, or hurt himself.
Now Grudge away! He will be both confused and burnt so VERY EASY TO CATCH. In fact that's how I pulled it off with 3 Ultras

What would make it easier is if you first used taunt. That way it'll get Swift or Psychic no matter what. Quote: Disclaimer: This plan has been tested, tweaked, and has only one flaw, namely Struggle. If Struggle counts as a normal attack, it wouldn't hit {haunter}{gengar} any way would it? Or is it Mewtwo would kill it's self via recoil?

Struggle isnt any type...it does it ghost pokemon...struggle effects any pokemon no matter what....besides... the game cant just make a pokemon impossible to beat something..it still needs to have a chance..but..i tried struggle on ghost pokemon..it hits.

Maybe you can check the psypoke psydex for those Pokemon locations.

You have to look in the very last room (where you find Lady Selphy). It's the only place you find Murkrow. It's rare anyways, so have patience.
Hope I helped!

Wow...that's a bit complicated, but I'll get it. I should try that when farther in the game.

Or you could just whittle down its health, paralyse it, pull out your best tank and throw Ultra Balls like there's no tomorrow. That works

That's the standard way to catch ANYTHING. What she's offering are tips that may further enhance your chances of getting a Mewtwo.

I don't want to be rude or anything, but, you could just use a master ball:)

It's pretty stupid to waste a Master Ball on A bird or Mewtwo, save it for the legendary beast instead.

Yes. Since the dog is going to Roar you away once you see it, (unless you're faster than it which is unlikely) it's best to use a Master Ball on it which:
1. Saves you the worry that you might see it again
2. Enables you to train it sooner
3. Saves you the accident of using your Master Ball on something else that is not worthy of a Master Ball
4. And since you know the birds and Mewtwo wil be there and won't run away, might as well catch them with Ultra Balls.

Exactly. I didn't mean to be dismissive before, it's just that catching any of them is all up to chance, and there is really no specific way to up your chacnes apart from the good old fashioned stat change

Well tessa you could always use a false swiper, makes catching Mewtwo much much easier...
The bird you can get in various places in FRLG, check the legendary guide if you want to know where.

Just a note that i don't think is in the legendary guide - Zapdos is the easiest to catch with an Ultra Ball, Articuno is a bit harder, and Moltres is the hardest of all to catch. It just takes time, perseverance and a refreshing drink to help you pass the time

And it just luck that made Zapdos easy to catch and Moltres hard, the game has a chance system, like rolling dice you may get lucky and have an easy time getting 1's but a hard time when it comes to getting 6's.
