Pokemon Crystal (GBC File) help!

I need help with my Pokemon Crystal. I had been playing Pokemon Crystal but I haven't in a while. Today I went to play it. In the folder there were the files:
Pokemon Crystal (GBC file)
Pokemon Crystal.sa1 (sa1 file)
When I opened it with Visual Boy Advance, I couldn't access my original file, it only said options and new game. What can I do to get my original file back?

The only thing I can think of is that you used the Save State function, which saves the game at a particular point. If you didn't do that then I don't know what it could be, possibly a bad ROM or something.

It clearly states in the rules that we do not allow the discussion of ROMs. As much as I hate killing a "discussion" in Johto Generation, we can't allow you to talk about it.
(even though I know the answer to this question)
