Very first time I played a metal based game; my Silver I kept him ???; it was only the second pokemon game I had ever played and I was used to yellow so when I was asked for his name I somehow thought his name was SUPPOSED to be ??? XP |

Always name 'em with their "default" names. Except Cedric/Pearl/Barry/Nobodycanagreewhatthispunksnameis, in Platinum. I named him Batman. |

In Gold, I called him Qmark. In Silver, I called him FWCS (acronym for Fail Who Can’t Spell). In Crystal, I called him Alex (there’s a very annoying boy that I know called Alexander but I can’t fit Alexander onto the name space so I just called him Alex). I used to own a hacked version on Blue which was set in Johto, but it didn’t work. Plus, you can’t name him, he’s automatically called ABCDE. |

Mine , I renamed him Peterpan and when I restarted my file, I renamed him as Stephen. I just want those.

I originally set it as somewhat obscene but legitimate names like Dick, which is very common. A celebrity name example is Dick Van GAY WOMEN which is a whole can of its own... and even phrases like 'every Tom, Dick, and Harry'. I later moved on to naming him after various villains. Currently though, I'm calling him SHINN after Shinn from Gundam SEED Destiny - I hate that character so much it might be unhealthy. |

I usually name him after my twin brother. I name all my rivals after him because.... - Your rival never wins against you. (he has never won a battle against me) - rival never completes his dream and keeps it. (twin has never completed a pokemon game) - rival can be your friend or your enemy. (we have good and bad times.) |

After the obligatory "???", I restarted. Named him plenty of different things, including old IRL pokemon rivals/friends. Finally settled on RHG, because a friend and I used to refer him as "the red-haired guy" when we'd talk about where we saw him/what level his pokemon were. |

The first time I played Johto in Silver I made a newb move here. Somehow the ??? came across to me as his actual name so that's what I called him. XD That was the only file I ever had in Silver, In Gold and Crystal I have no memory of most of the things I named him but I do remember his name was August in a Crystal ROM I once played based on a film theme I was doing. That's usually the case these days. I might have named him Trent at one point in Gold after this kid who picked on me and my at the time best friend in the fifth grade. I know that's what I named my Yellow rival. |
