Never had that happen...

Yeah, try another battery, but make sure it's a different brand. I know for sure that Durecel works.

YES! There is finally a solution! I must try this now. Maybe I can get my Dad to surgically remove the battery. I'm not that great at the whole "careful" thing... Thanks!

Bump.

I've made a small update, but it's worth looking at.

How long do the new batteries last, do you think?

It depends on the brand. Try looking at the package for the lifetime expectancy.

I had a quick question/comment about batteries that had to be repaired:
Is it related to game play time? I know I had to replace my Silver's battery when it neared 500 hours. My Blue and Yellow are still working today although both have less than 100 hours and older than Silver. Crystal has about 130 hours. Anyone remember their hours before it had to be fixed?

My Crystal still works, and I'm about to face Red. :3 As for the battery... Are you talking about the battery in the system itself, or in the cartridge?

Ok, so the battery degrades after about 6 or 7 years, but is that since manufacture or since first use? There are some factory sealed copies still around, and I already fixed my silver. I'd like Gold but don't want to have to go through doing this again. Anyone?

How to make a special screw driver to open your game cartridges

I was getting sick and tired of unscrewing the little Nazi screws on the back of my gameboy games to change the battery in them. so I made a special screwdriver to make it a lot easier to unscrew them. all you need is a quarter inch wide Flathead screw driver, a Dremel (rotary tool), a metal cutting attachment, and a metal grinding attachment. First you need to grind the flathead of the screwdriver to the thickness of 4 pieces of paper. Now you need the cutting attachment to cut the center of the of the flathead to the width of the inner part of the screw, and use trial and error until it gets a good grip of the screw. now use the grinding attachment to grind the sides of the flat head to where it won't scrape the cartridge. Now it will take a lot of trial and error to get this to fit and work right.

P.S. i made that screwdriver in the first post.
P.S.S. if your retarded and hurt yourself doing this i'm not responsible

This can be used with RBY AND GSC.

I don't really expect this thread to get any replies (and probably a minimum amount of views since nobody plays GSC anymore), but I thought I'd just throw this out here in case someone actually does care.

I recently discovered a product that can back up saved data AND do your cheating all in one device. It is called Monster Brain, and it can be found on EBay for a relatively cheap price. I got mine for $1.29 + shipping, but it seems to be slightly less common and more expensive now. I made a video on it located here, but since my camera sucks floppy donkey :censored: , I'm going to break down all the things it can do in text. All pink text is GSC exclusive.

Start Game
-> Starts the game, pretty self explanatory.

Colourizer
-> Doesn't work. Broken function.

Blast Off
-> Doesn't work. Broken function.

Editor

-> Edit your name
-> Edit your rival's name
-> Edit properties
-----> edit money
-----> edit time
-----> edit badges
-----> edit clock
-----> edit ID #
-----> edit seen dex
-----> edit caught dex
-----> edit Gear
-----> Allow Fly

-> Edit Monsters 1 through 6
-----> edit monster type
-----> edit monster nickname
-----> edit gender / type
-----> item held
-----> store as egg?

-----> monster status
-----> current HP
-----> max HP
-----> level
-----> EXP points
-----> ID #
-----> Original trainer
-----> Technique 1
-----> Technique 2
-----> Technique 3
-----> Technique 4
-> Edit pack
-----> edit items
-----> edit balls
-----> edit key items
-----> edit TM/HM

-> Enter Poke [broken function, does not work]
-> Save changes

Memory

-> Backup (backs up saved data)
-> Restore (restores a file saved in the monster brain to the cartridge inserted)
-> Delete (deletes a backup)
-> Erase saved game (erases saved game on the cartridge (!))

Honestly I think it's a great product, and if you hate when your game randomly corrupts your data, I highly suggest getting this. It's also good to edit your Pokemon and items and makes things a lot easier.

Great guide, I could probably fix my Gold version now. But I wouldn't risk destroying it!

Sounds good, but I want to know how much internal batteries cost individually (or at least usually) in the US before I buy this thing, seems like it could be just as harmful as helpful.

But it would stop my friend from using my rechargeable SP on charge all the time if he could do it without turning the GB off.

AEPMT :D :) :P :wink: :mrgreen:

Um...how is it harmful? It hasn't caused any harm to my games. :? Don't make any blind assumptions either.

Batteries that fit inside the cartridges (CR2016, CR2025, and CR032) are about $2.50 each. They usually come in a pack of 2 though, so you'll be paying just under $5. You can get any of the 3, but CR2025 is the most desirable. CR2016 is a pretty small battery, so I try to avoid it and get CR2032 if I cannot find CR2025 at the store. The only problem with CR2032 is its larger than the battery thats *supposed* to be in the cartridge (CR2025) so its a bit harder to get the cartridge back together. My Silver Version runs off a CR2025, Gold and Crystal run off CR2032. All three are Durecell brand.

Sorry about bringing this thread back.

What stops the battery in emerald from going out?

Sorry for the late reply,

the battery in Emerald shouldn't be going bad. RSE uses little batteries too, but just to keep track of time. The memory is stored in a flash chip and if your cartridge won't hold a save or it's telling you the battery is dead, I would question its authenticity or damage done to the cartridge.

By the way, it's fine to reply to this thread even if nobody has posted in a while, it's stickied for a reason. :)

Ooh thanks for the tip! My friend gave me his Gold version that didn't save for my birthday in August, 2008 (yeah, real old by then) and I want it to save soooo bad!
But, I have a question: If the file saved when the battery worked, and you haven't played it in like 10 years and you put in a new battery, will it still play on your saved file, or will it create a whole new file?
