Mecha pokemon sounds like something that would be part of the story in a Gamecube/Wii pokemon game like the XD series, similar to Shadow Pokemon.

Really, the current types have everything covered- they've done a wonderful job with it. Almost every aspect of life's elements can be covered by one of the current types. It's really fun to speculate about new types, but I'd say the chances of seeing new ones are very slim. If there were to be a new one, Light is probably the most likely one.

as AceTrainer pointed out, obviously this is wrong as

Magnemite and Magneton

both became part steel

They got a type added, but it wasnt changed!

exploud would go from normal to sound which is a type change not addition.

also; i dont see them using a normal/sound type- it's too similar

The line's typing, whether added to or subtracted from, was modified all the same. Also, you may forget that in a relative matter, four(?) previous moves had their type changed from gen I to gen II.

I see no reason why Exploud couldn't be normal/sound. I don't like the sound type, but it's a hell of a lot more interesting than fighting type/etc. So deal.

How many pokemon can be created based around "sound"? I mean, there aren't that many pokemon that could be retyped to become sound pokemon...

The Exploud line, Chatot, Spinda? What else? Perhaps the Magnezone line, but that already has two types. The Noctowl line might make sense, where Sound replaces Normal, but that's still only a handful of pokemon.

Moves. Sonic Boom, Uproar, Sing, Screech, Growl. Only two out of five of those are damaging, and not very good damaging moves at that.

For that matter, what would be the weaknesses and resistances? It's sound, what are you going to do to it?

I am firmly against any new types that may or may not come into being.

Incidentally, you forgot Hyper Voice in your list of potential Sound moves.

I thought it was in the quote by the previous post. Either way, Astonish, despite being a ghost move is a move based on a scream/shout. Perhaps it could be blocked by Soundproof.

- {eevee} -lution
- {dunsparce} evo? Though, the already-mentioned Dragon evo would be cooler.
-I would say {ludicolo} , but it's already dual-type and awesome.

Shoot, I never came up with a list of moves.
Growl, Bug Buzz, Chatter, Encore, Grasswhistle, Howl, Hyper Voice, Lucky Chant, Metal Sound, Metronome?, Perish Song, Roar, Sing, Sleep Talk, Snore, SonicBoom, Supersonic, Uproar

So there are some in there I really wouldn't want to see the type change.
What if they just made all of those "soundbased" and then continued to give out the ability Soundproof,
and introduce a new ability that makes the Pokemon weak to Soundbased moves?
Or gives a family added strength/accuracy with them?

Some of those moves need not be changed at all (i.e., Bug Buzz, Metal Sound, Grass Whistle), but could still be 'pseudo-sound' moves, just like how Fire Punch and Ice Punch are like 'pseudo-fighting' moves boosted by {hitmonchan} 's ability. Moves like Sonic boom and Hyper Voice are good candidates for the Sound type though.

It would probably have rocket boosters and some kind of laser cannon. Great. Now I want one.

I suppose that would fall under steel type if anything...
Look at Gears and the Bronzong line: both pseudo-technology, both steel type.

gears is tech-oriented; bronzong is designed after a coin (it says in the pokedex, even if it looks like a gear). magnemite's line or elekid (he's a frickin' power cord with legs) is more tech oriented, imo. there're others, but i just can't think of them right now....
but yeah, mecha type isn't necessary, imo. it'd just be a combo of electricity and steel.

The mecha hype seems to be due to the tails of Zekrom and Reshiram, but no. I think adding a mecha will destroy the flavor of Pokemon. Sure, there are tech-oriented pokemon, so to speak, but there aren't too many. Besides, firing lasers like sh00p da wh00p seems OP and lame at the same time.

Plus, I'd rather suspend disbelief for a creature to create ice or shoot fire from its mouth than a fully functional rocket.

Agreed.

Also, guys, "Mecha" is a broad genre of walking vehicles which are usually controlled by a pilot.

Saying you want a "mecha" Eevee is like saying you want an Anime Team Rocket to build a giant machine that looks like an Eevee.

Bronzong is not based on a coin, it's based on a bell. BronZOR is based on a mirror. Sorry, it isn't pseudo-technology at all, but it sure as hell isn't a coin either.

Tempting, tempting....but no??

On a slightly different matter, how are steel immune to psychic when {alakazam} clearly demonstrates being able to bend metal? And aren't acids able to corrode metal? So poison should hit super-effective against them, right?

No- because some metals totally resist it. I think Nintendo decided to completely go one or the other way and they went with no damage.

I believe that the whole Mecha idea would work perfectly with a skarmory evolution.
