they also should put some decent ice types in the beginning...
also get rid of the usless normal types in the beginning because people can use them for HM slaves and that spells n00b to me

and what about an eeveelotion but its a legendary lol

Another idea- if they don't let you customize your clothes, at the very least depending on the starter you choose, your clothes will be different.

4 ideas for generation V

1) A weather move for each type
They already have:
Water-Rain Dance
Fire-Sunny Day
Rock-Sandstorm
Ice-Hail
Psychic-Gravity and Trick Room (2? hardly fair, or are they even weather?)
What might be good:
Electric-Thunderstorm: An electrical discharge to a random pokemon, taller ones are more likely to get hit, for electric Pokemon it has the effect of Charge.
Flying-Hurricane: Sometimes redirects indirect attacks, blows them back or onto different targets.
Ground-Tremors: Decreases evasion and damages digging pokemon
Steel-Magnetic Field: not sure what it could do, but it sounds fun and makes me think of 2 steel types sticking together with a loud "CLANG"
Dragon-Dragonstorm: Randomly raises stats each turn, sharply for dragons
Fighting-Aura: Doubles the attack of all pokemon, triples for fighting types, also doubles the power of Aura Sphere
Normal-Calm Air: Turns off all weather. Or Fog: activates fog, we all know what that does.
Poison-Poison Mist: Has the effect of black sludge on all pokemon.
Dark-Pitch Black: Turns off the targeting system. You can select an attack but you won't know what it will hit, does not affect dark types, works best in double battles.
I cannot think of any others.


2) Rather than have HMs, add a hint of pokemon ranger
Make it possible to have all of your pokemon follow you at once (with the correct sizes, so long as they fit)
Whilst you will still need gym leader badges be allowed to cut down trees, smash rocks, etc, any suitable move will do it, you will be able to ask any of your pokemon to use any of their moves on an obstacle some moves might work, others might not, it would be funny to see it when it is not working
The ability to ride any of your pokemon out of battle, this would speed up your movement, unless you pick a very small pokemon, in which case you would go at a snails pace, and their happiness would decrease
This could be advanced to using fly, pokemon which can fly will fly you to the place in the usual way, pokemon which cannot will simply charge at full speed in the vague direction, until they crash into an obstacle.
Pokemon which can swim will simply be ridden into the water once you have the correct badge, pokemon which can't, will sink.


3) Active wild pokemon+trainers
When the game begins, every route has 100 level 1 pokemon suited to the route. Every time you battle anything anywhere, all of the wild pokemon everywhere pair up and battle, they will gain exp in the usual way, learn new moves, evolve, etc. Occasionally they will even breed. Wild pokemon battles will be against individuals, every time you defeat, or run from a wild pokemon it will stay on the route. If you capture it, a new one will be bred.
If a wild pokemon defeats one of yours, it will gain exp, trainers on that route will also battle the wild pokemon and level up their pokemon.
This way, as you progress through the game, all of the pokemon will be stronger than the ones you faced last.
Trainers will walk around nearby routes, battling and getting stronger as you do. Gym leaders will patrol the nearby areas to level up their pokemon. It will all work out for a better experience.

4) Genetics
Pokemon of the same species each give half of their DVs and IVs to their young when they are bred. Ditto of course copies the IVs and DVs of the pokemon it is breeding with, so the results are the same.
Compatible pokemon of different species also share their genes with their young. The baby pokemon will still be of the same species as the mother, random hybrids would just be weird. But 1 quarter of the DVs and IVs and possibly size, of the father will be added to 3 quarters of the DVs IVs and possibly size, of the mother. This would create a pokemon with slightly different stats to its pure bred relatives. Further generations would retain these genes.

5) Growth
All eggs are the same size within the game be it a wailmer or a weedle. This must mean that all of the pokemon that hatch from them would be the same size.
Somehow, a newly hatched pokemon from an egg suddenly growing to full size within a few seconds does not seem logical. Surely it would be better for the pokemon to grow gradually from egg-size?
If all of the size data in the pokedex referred to that size at level 50, an average level, then the egg-sized pokemon would increase its size for every level it gained, with larger pokemon having faster growth rates, and all pokemon reaching pokedex size at the same level. If then a level 50 pokemon were to keep growing at the same rate, then it would be obvious which pokemon were stronger and/or at higher levels. This idea would work best in future 5th generation 3D game on the wii or others. Another thought would be that certain physical traits grow with certain stats, a pokemon with higher attack having longer teeth, claws, horns, etc. A pokemon with higher special attack having brighter colours and/or larger aspects related to those traits.

I think instead of mist being used for poison, make it smog or acid rain, so that we can use the mist for ghost types.

Ghost = Strange mist(?)

I don't know if we can have weather for bug and grass as they are both based on real living animals and as such depend on the weather, not make/alter the weather.

Perhaps the bug weather move could be a move for Vespiquen, Swarm Order. Some attacks will hit the swarm and do no damage, some will bounce off, some will remain unaffected.

Ghost-Haunting: Occasionally makes a pokemon use a different move to what was intended, or attack a different pokemon, or be to scared to attack, all general responses to possession.
Grass-Spore Storm: Inflicts random status problems on random pokemon; SLP, PRZ, PZN. I don't think BRN would be such a good idea, whilst there are plant based moves like Sleep Powder, Stun Spore and Poison Powder, I can't imagine an attack called Curry Powder!

Maybe not Spore Storm, because there's already an attack Spore (PAR automatically). I like the idea of it, but such an obvious enhancement of the attack would seem strange since it took so long...

As for features, maybe a cross-regional transport between all of them... Just throwing out not good random ideas...

How about...

-More music during battles. The playlist is very limited, and for every normal battle throughout the whole game I believe its the same song. Keep that song, because it's a classic, but add some new ones to randomly put in there.

-Able to save multiple files onto one DS cartridge. Except that would obviously cut their sales from siblings playing on one game, sharing.

-Be able to battle people online randomly. Just at the beginning or during Wi-Fi set-up have there be a parental setting if you don't want your kid playing against 30 year olds who inappropriately name their pokemon.

-New story. I mean really new. Seriously... Team Rocket, and then Team Galactic. And they both steal people's pokemon. And other ridiculous similarities. Team Magma this, Team that. Every antagonist group is called Team something. Something other than talking to a Professor at the beginning. Etc.

-Starters with different types from fire, grass, and water.

That's what I got.

Umm...Ajit, I agree & disagree, fantastic &;

1. Fantastic suggestion

2. I agree with this very much as it's a good suggestion but no way it would work for the sells of the games

3. Also Fantastic suggestion which I'm shocked isn't in there already

4. I agree, it's really getting boring but meeting the professor at the start of the game is not going away as they are the people responsible per say for distributing the starter pokemon to the trainers at the start of their journey, it's like that in every region sadly but still

5. Oh god no, it would never work & some types are not meant to be seen until a certain point in the game seeing as it's a RPG game & whatnot

Though as an added bonus to my post I also not suggest that this should be a feature in Gen 5;

1. Inspired from Ajit's suggestion pertaining to Wi-Fi Battle & from my aggrevation of finding out what I want to say from very limited options for words...I now suggest that they make word chating in the game open so I can at least say things like "I want apple juice" or something else that makes actual sense instead of being limited to what is probably only 1/1,000,000th of the English Vocabulary...In short, ditch the Easy Chat feature or at what I suggested as an alternative to just having Easy Chat cause I hate it primarily being the reason

i think the number one most frustarting thing in the game is the fact that if u miss the very short, very exclusive pokemon events that u cannot complete the pokedex without cheating or having good friends. They can still have events, just maybe for a speacial form of pokemon like the special pichu thing or maybe for extra content in-game. the game shouldn't make it THIS difficult to complete the pokedex, which is the original reason for the game: "GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!"

In response to CharizardTamer13 regarding "GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!" I think they need to have an event for every "event-only" Pokemon at least once a year for this very reason. The cheaters already have them all, let there be a way for the legit players to complete their collection, even if we can't get some of the one-time-only special form Pokemon that the die-hards will have.

My big wish is for them to streamline the interface. The DS has two screens, why can't we read a solid page of dialog from an NPC rather than advance through 5 pages of 2 lines of text each? Also, I shouldn't need to answer 3 questions just to log on to the online trade system "Would you like to save your game and log in?" will suffice. Also, the intro for each battle is nice and all but give me the option to turn that off. Basically anything that streamlines the experience so that I'm focusing on gameplay and not on text, menu-systems, and long forced repeated animations. Heck, for wild pokemon battles, just overlay the fight right on the map rather than transition at all. That way I won't forget where the heck I was going in some cave when it transitions back.

Those are my big hopes anyways but here are some icing on the cake ideas:
* Hard-mode for the main storyline (not just end-game challenges)
- and /or -
* New Game+ (Chrono Trigger fans know this one) basically you start over but get to keep all your stuff from the previous game but the storyline resets. Up the difficulties on the encounters. Good way to farm for TMs you can only get one of without making the process boring but still making you work for it.
* An easier way to bulk transfer Pokemon from other games
* A fog-of-war style map that would show a semi-detailed view of areas that have been explored both indoors and out.

EDIT 4-23-10 10:50 (adding to my post to keep clutter down):
* Continue support for the Pokewalker or equivalent device, this is the first exercise I've had in years.
* Let us create an online account to record which events we have participated in so we can retrieve them in-game in case we start on a new cartridge
* Let us use the aforementioned account to store Pokemon for game transfers as well as trading using a web-based client

Diodon, I agree with you that there should be a new game+ as it would be better then actually erasing your previous file data just to experience the adventure all over again & have to go through all that long process of transfering anything you don't want deleted to another game cart before starting over, especially when you put things like the PokeWalker into consideration...I also agree that they should hold Events (like the Platinum Events excluding Arceus & Regigigas) more then just that one time as they don't actually expect everyone to obtain the game on time do they...I also agree that battles shouldn't take so long to set up as I often forget which way I am going when in caves on rare occasions too...& it would just look better...

1) How about in the options menu an option to turn off music altogether, that way you can listen to your own music but hear the sound effects that take place in the game.

2) Gender difference for (almost) every pokemon. Yeah that would take a lot of illustration work I suppose...

3) Story line lengthening. Not necessarily the catching all pokemon part, but the other stuff. I mean it felt like Pearl was the shortest version I had ever played. Some parts were nice (no huge caves), but I mean that game was seriously easy. Team Galactic was easier than any other entity. I mean their home base felt like it had maybe 5 grunts in it. Also, not just lengthening, but surprises/twists.

In fact how about a plot line where an evil organization steals pokemon by hacking into the computer storage system. lol I mean what if at one short interval of the game, your pokemon storage box is emptied, and you have to defeat some goons to restore everyone's data.

Ajit, Agree on #1, you wouldn't think that would be challenging for them to implement. On #2, yea any additional character detail is always nice though I wonder when the number of Pokemon will eventually make it prohibitive to make new graphic sets or include all Pokemon. I wonder what the development costs come down to per included Pokemon, not just for the portable games but also the 3D console games. Regarding #3 I'm on board for making it more challenging and involved as a way of adding more gameplay hours, so long as they just don't make the caves that much longer filled with trivial trainers / grunts. I imagine they don't want the game to be too hard as it is marketed to a younger crowd but it seems like they could add a higher difficulty mode where Pokemon you fight have stats improved by some set percentage.

Ajit, I agree with you on all points...especially 1. & 2. as I would love to not have to listen to a set song for trainer battles, etc. as sometimes it seems like they put them in the wrong place like in the Gen 3 games...& I don't know why they haven't at least did further venturing into 2. yet...

1) How about larger cities? I mean its petty how unrealistically small some towns are. I definitely understand its to make it more playable, it would be ridiculous if there was even 1000 people in one city, much less a realistic 100,000 or something.

But perhaps twice as big? Celestic Town in Sinnoh has 13 people, second smallest in the region. So imagine 26 for one of the smaller cities in the game. And in Jubillife City there are 68, so double that to 136.

I think this would be one fun way to add length to the game without just adding a bunch of extra trainers and long routes/caves.

If the cities are larger, there's more stuff to do, more interesting things to explore.

2) Also if the reintroduce the underground, make it to where the UI is better. I hate the limit on how many spheres you can hold AND that if I want to drop a bunch I have to do it one at time. Also just make your Bag above ground work seamlessly with your underground "treasures". Its very time consuming moving each item one at a time to my bag.

3) Add some more functionality to the top buttons on the DS. I don't use them at all on my Pearl game.

4) Better Apps user interface. Like instead of double tapping to "quickly" switch between apps, have a menu button where you press it and it shows mini tiles that have the name of the app or just a number to quickly go to that app. Other than that about the apps, I think that addition in D/P was a great new feature.

5) App for mobile PC use. Not able to deposit or withdraw of course, but check pokemon you already have, for purposes like if you need to know if you already have a female {shellos} or if the last {machop} you caught had the Nature you were looking for.

6) New series of items that, if held by a parent of an egg, increases the chance of a certain Nature being achieved. For example, a Nidorina holds a Red Pepper while in the daycare, and the baby has an 50% increased chance of receiving one of the four natures that likes spicy flavors (lonely, brave, adamant, naughty) which all of course increase the Attack stat.

You could expand this further in that you have an item that corresponds with each nature to achieve optimum breeding, like a Hard Red Pepper, which corresponds with the Lonely nature. Of course an item for every nature is quite an expansion...

Possibly find these nature items in the Underground.

7) Find a new way to implement Happiness into the game. An average player going the through the game casually doesn't even know Happiness in Pokemon exists. Nothing comes to mind for me honestly, but hopefully someone can think of something. Of course, it shouldn't be overwhelming, shouldn't become more like the SIM's; pokemon style or anything, and possibly still a hidden number, but something should be put in to make it more of something to pay attention to aside from a few evolutions and the power of frustration/return

I suggested something about the narrative thread.

To make the story more branched and to provide more options, make specializations and achievements.

Specializations: Conventional Trainer, Contest Trainer, Breeder and Hunter/Tracker.

Achievements are like side-quests you do for a certain reward. For example, catching at least three types of bug pokemon entitles you to a bug-type boosting item.

To make it so people will not just always choose the conventional trainer, make the other specializations more awarding, not just by giving ribbons. Give rare pokemon as prizes after winning at least three categories of contests, or after breeding five rare pokemon, etc. Or give rare items and TM's, shiny pokemon, etc.

Ajit, For #1, I'm not sure they would make the cities much bigger without just adding a lot of filler. The change I'd rather see is for the world map to be more open rather than a series of linear "routes" with trees blocking all but the designated path. If that includes a few more purely decorative buildings, that would be fine for me so long as the buildings I need are pretty much clustered together.

#2 If they expand on the idea, I'd be happy to see the underground come back. The way it stands now, it is an interesting mini-game but not much more. Maybe if the underground started off not being completely dug out and you had to assign Pokemon to carve out various areas to expand the mine it would increase the sense of exploration rather than traveling endless mine tunnels.

#3 Sounds fine.

#4, 5 I don't have a strong opinion about the apps, I'm not really missing them in Soul Silver.

#6 I just collect a Ditto of every nature and give them an Everstone when used for breeding. If you need to breed with a non-Ditto for some reason then just use Ditto to breed a mother to use who has the right nature. That said, I'm quite possibly missing something here.

#7 The happiness level effects your interactions with your lead Pokemon and will determine if they will share items they find with you (the ones you get from talking to them). But yea, it would be reasonable to make happiness have more impact on the game since treating Pokemon nicely seems to be a central theme to the game. Course, if I was writing this game your Pokemon would also flat out turn on you, maul you and run away if their happiness bottomed out.

Ahh I don't have SS or HG so I didn't know they got rid of the apps or that your lead Pokemon's affected by happiness like that.

As far as the hold items for breeding, I suppose the main advantage to having individual items is that you don't have to catch several dittos just to find the right Nature. Instead, say you got one and only one Charizard, and its female, give it a Hot Pepper and then have the father, w/e it may be, hold a Hot Pepper as well, and your guaranteed a baby that has w/e nature.

You got me, right? I don't think I explained it perfectly lol but yeah...
